October 25 we have a half-day of school, but daycare will be open. PLEASE let daycare or the office know if your student will be going to daycare that afternoon, so that we will have enough lunches for everyone!
Fall Festival/TRUNK OR TREAT: Saturday, October 26th First Lutheran Church & School will host our Trunk or Treat Festival from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Pizza will be sold by the slice for $2.00 each slice in advance, or $3/slice at the event (tea/lemonade included). Stop by the office or return the attached order form with payment to your homeroom teacher by October 22 to purchase your pizza at “advance” prices. Chips with cheese and walking taco’s will also be for sale at the event. We need people to host a trunk, run games, and give out candy. CARDINALS GIVE BACK: Jiffy Trip is partnering with First Lutheran to collect change for the Children’s Hospital Foundation/Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for one week; October 16th – October 23rd. They are asking First Lutheran students to donate change (or bills if you prefer), and all proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The winning class will be the class in each building who donates the most (on average) per student, and that class will win a pizza party, courtesy of Jiffy Trip! WE NEED YOUR USED INK/TONER CARTRIDGES: We collect and recycle ink & toner cartridges for credit on our Staples bill! Please donate your ink/toner cartridges by bringing them to the office, leaving them with your teachers to send to the office, or leave them in the black mailbox between the office and the parking lot. We also collect and recycle (broken or working) cell phones, other small electronic devices like iPods and Kindles (sorry--no desktops), laptops, and charging cords. Using these credits on our ink purchases each month helps us to keep our costs down, which helps you (the people whose tuition pays our bills)! Thank you! BOX TOPS!: Box Tops is all new! The NEW and improved Box Tops mobile app scans your store receipt, finds participating products, and instantly adds Box Tops to First Lutheran's earnings online! Just download the app and scan your receipt within 14 days of purchase and we get points! You can also bring your grocery receipts to the office and Connie can scan them for you (within 14 days of the purchase. We will continue to gather your clipped box tops until December. Thank you for helping us earn points and cash! KINDLES FOR SALE: The middle school has upgraded to ChromeBooks, so the Kindle Fire 7’s that were formerly used in the middle school are now for sale. They have 5 GB, come with cases, but no charging cords. 1 for $30, 2 for $50, 3 for $60. Stop by the office to take a look and/or purchase them. We currently have 6 left, so don’t wait if you are interested. PATRIOT’S PEN is a national patriotic speech writing competition open to 6th – 8th grade students. Students choosing to participate will write and enter a 300-400 word essay on this years’ theme “What Makes America Great”; and the grand prize is a $5,000 Scholarship. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY is a national patriotic speech writing competition open to 9th – 12th grade students. Students choosing to participate will write, enter, and record a 3-5 minute speech expressing their -1-
