COVID UPDATE

Covid Update - We have one child in middle school finishing up today on a two week quarantine. Two parents of this child had different symptoms and one tested positive and other tested negative (twice), but quarantined the child for two weeks even though the child tested negative twice several days apart.

No one else questionable at this time. (PTL - Praise the Lord!)

DAYCARE SIGN-UPS!: Fall Break is Friday, October 16 & Monday, October 19. Daycare will be open for those who signed up. If you did not sign up, but find that you do now need daycare, please contact Ms. Heidi at 580-762-1124 or by FastDirect email to see if there is space available.

Fallapalooza – Auction & BBQ meal are still being planned for Saturday - October 24 with a lot of health safety precautions in place. Please get your tickets early so we know how much food to prepare. Details and order form are on the attached flyer. Also, please keep bringing us your little stuffed animals and small toys that we can give away as prizes.

BOXTOPS: The BoxTop program is giving us one more chance to turn in paper BoxTops. If you have any laying around your house, this is the last call for any and all paper box tops! Please send them to school by October 26.

STUDENT COUNCIL – Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings from Student Council! The new representatives have been meeting and planning our first activity. Red Ribbon Week is scheduled for Monday, October 26 - Friday, October 30. We will have contests and prizes for those who participate in the different activities. To kick things off, we will be holding the following dress-up days: Monday - Career Day (What do you want to be when you Thursday - Spirit Day (Wear your favorite FLS spirit grow up?) clothes!)

Tuesday - Twin Day (2 or more for Tuesday!)

Friday - Sports Day (Dress to support your favorite team Wednesday - Pajama Day (Need we say more?!) or sport!)

1 QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: This is the last week to make contributions to continue our sponsorship of Rosa for this year. You can still send chapel offerings with your student on Thursday, or bring them by the office.

GRANDPARENTS DAY – We are making plans for splitting Grandparents Day to Monday afternoon Nov. 23 for students with last names beginning with A through L and then M through Z will be on Tuesday morning. Meals, programs, worship, book fair, and classroom visits will be on both days.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at the church is now collecting used (clean) shoes and items for Baby Kits (see bottom of this Chatter for items needed). You may drop off these donations in the school office.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: The first quarter is coming to an end this week so NO SCHOOL on Friday & Monday so teachers can get report cards done. We have a half day of school on Friday - October 23 to meet with parents/guardians about their child's grades. Check with your teacher about available times for report card conferences.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: We had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday, what fun!! Today is the Trike a thon! This week we are learning all about the letter S and the sound it makes, and working hard on recognizing our names and how to spell them. Please sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences on class Tag. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Logan Tamez! It was a great day to be outside at the pumpkin patch yesterday! We are thankful for the beautiful weather and the parents that could attend with us! The Trike-a-Thon was fun today. I hope that you were able to register, and raise some donations for St. Jude Children's Hospital! You should receive an email with instructions for ordering prizes. If you have cash donations, please send them to school.

Parent/Teacher conferences are next week. Look for the sign up form on activities in our Class Tag app to choose your time slot. Class Tag will send you a reminder. Report cards will be handed out at your conference. Fall Break is Friday and Monday; tomorrow is our last day this week. Our Bible words this week are, God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 We are still on our Mm,Aa,Ss letter cluster and learning the number 2 this week. Have a Blessed week, and a great fall break!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We have "fall break" the 16th through the 19th (no school), have a great one!

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents (or others) that helped with our field trip by driving your child! The kids had a great time! Also, thanks for bringing your child's bike and helmet to school today! Please look online to mark a time for your parent/teacher appointment by using "class tag". Once in the app go to the "activity" section. The conferences will be on Oct. 22nd and the 23rd after school. Have an awesome week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Thank you to all of the parents for taking your child on our field trip. We had a great day! Memory verse for Thursday is Philippians 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Make sure that you do your online parent approval for the Pizza Hut Book-It program. Color your lion for each day that you read on the reading log. Book orders for October came home today. If you would like to order books, please turn that in

by Thursday, Oct. 22. Parent/teacher conferences are coming up next week. Please make sure that you sign-up for your date and time on Class Tag. We need parent helpers for our game on the 24th. The only time taken so far is 10-10:30. I pray that you have an enjoyable and safe Fall Break.

I'm proud of these improving readers for reaching their AR goals. After fall break we all start at zero points again. We pray God's blessings on Houston as he moves to Kansas. We'll miss you. THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: We made it!! The first quarter is under our belts. The kids have adjusted well, and our homework problem is under control. Thank you!! This week: Spelling test and Memory (John 3:16) are due on Thursday. Field Trip: Field trip money is due tomorrow. Donations: Please make sure your Fall Festival donations are in also; five dollars for our class project and assorted chocolates. Parent/Teacher: Please look for a colored sheet with your conference time. Let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to make that time. A.R. Goals: Please look for a permission slip for our A.R reward on Thursday. We have a busy last couple of days! Thank you for all your support and prayers this first quarter. I cannot wait to see what the next quarter brings us.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are in a short week as we have a long weekend! The S.S. take home test is due today. Chapel offering is going towards children from Compassion International. AR goals reset after fall break.

Spelling, reading, and memory tests are tomorrow. I can’t wait to speak to each of you at Parent Teacher Conferences 2

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Since this is a short week with our field trip today and Friday the beginning of fall break, we are not having our regular spelling and reading unit. Memory work due tomorrow is the 8 th Commandment and meaning. A big thank you to all that accompanied us on our field trip today. A wonderful time was had by all!

5TH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: We are currently in the middle of an ongoing independent activity. We are making daily weather predictions, finding expert weather predictions, and observing the actual weather for 10 days.

Specific instructions are on Google Classroom. The main thing is to make sure your student is making daily observations and recordings. So please check in with them and maybe remind them of this daily. The data table for this activity is due next Wednesday, Oct. 21.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math wrapped up their Test 4 earlier this week. We will begin with Lesson 26 after Fall Break.

6R Math will take their Chapter 3 Test on Thursday. We have been reviewing for the last several days. Math binders were due today and will be in the gradebook before the end of the quarter.

6A/7R Math took their Chapter 3 Test on Tuesday and began Chapter 4 today with prime factorization. Math binders were due today and will be in the gradebook before the end of the quarter.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is now studying matter and how to describe it. This is technically Ch.2, "Properties of Matter". We are combining the metric system, which is how we measure matter, & properties of matter, because, well, that makes sense and they are closely related. We will have a vocab quiz this Friday over the new vocab terms of Ch. 2.

6th grade families are also being asked to donate some items for Fallapalooza. Each family needs to bring a $20 gift card to a shop (not a restaurant) for the money tree that will be auctioned off. Boy families need to bring 12 bottles of Dr. Pepper and girl families need to bring 12 bottles of sprite (individual sized 16 oz bottles). We are also in need of sour cream, butter, and cheese if you would like to donate one of those items please message me through FastDirect and I will tell you specifics. These items are for the baked potato bar that 6th grade is running to raise money for the D.C. trip. A sign up sheet to work the bar will be going up at hansonscience.blogspot.com and will be sent in a FastDirect message. If you would like the opportunity to raise money for the D.C. trip, you can sign up to work the potato bar.

Please only choose one spot/family for now so all have a chance to sign up. It will then open up to first come first serve next Wednesday if not all spots are filled.

7th grade is digging into rock (pun intended). This chapter’s notes and reviews are being done a little differently.

Students are allowed to work at their own pace through these assignments and all have one due date in the future, Oct. 23. I have been checking in with them regularly to make sure work is being done and keep them accountable. There are 5 sections that need to be read with notes taken and each also has its own separate review. In class we are doing collaborative activities that unify concepts and focus on all the rock types. We will have a vocab quiz Thursday.

8th grade just finished our unit over the Characteristics of Life and now will be learning how to classify life.

Ms. Kester: It's almost the end of the quarter! The students and I have been balancing our History and Religion classes with Mock-Election preparations - President posters, student-designed ballot boxes, and election speeches. Next week we'll do various reviews of our History lessons for a test the following week.

In religion, we're still plugging away at our worksheet lessons. Students who have displayed excellent behavior in Religion class have been given the opportunity to teach a lesson for extra credit points. I plan to continue doing this with Grade 7 throughout the rest of this year.

Soon, we'll start on our pumpkins for Fallapalooza. Many things have already been bought and brought to make our class project awesome. Until next time, enjoy your Fall Break!
