Congratulations to Mea Matthiesen, Micah Self, Reese Andrews, Rhett Brand, Kinley Brown, and Jack Kinkaid for qualifying to represent their class and First Lutheran School in the Elks Hoop Shoot! MASKS!: We know, but…at least for now…PLEASE send your child to school in a mask for the next few days. (They should always have 2 masks with them in their backpack; the 2nd is in case the one they are using breaks or gets misplaced.) PLEASE PLEASE let us know AND keep them at home if your student has symptoms of the COVID variant: cough, sore throat, fever, muscular pain, mucus, and headache. Also, please keep us informed of any positive COVID test results. If your student has had the COVID vaccination, please send a picture of their vaccination card to lutheransecretary@yahoo.com . As always, please pray that God will lead us in the direction that we should go. 2-PAYMENT TUITION REMINDER: If you opted to pay your tuition for the year in two payments, the second half payment is due MONDAY, January 31; after that date, the applied discount will be removed from your account. Please contact the office if you want to change plans. PONCA CITY SANTA TICKET GIVEAWAY: We were within a thousand SEVERAL times; we didn’t win, but we were closer, more times than prior years! FLS NIGHT AT PO-HI BASKETBALL!: Each school student will come home next week with a free ticket to the January 11 (Tuesday) games at Po-Hi. Game times begin at 6:30 and are at the Robson FieldHouse. Please wear a FLS shirt and cheer the Wildcats to victory! CARDINAL CARE DAYCARE – Ms. Vap: We are excited to announce that our Daycare is transitioning to its’ new name of “Cardinal Care”! Watch for more details about this re-branding in the near future! We will have sign-up sheets out this week, for daycare on Friday, January 14th and Monday, January 17th. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Christmas break is over, I'm eager to get back into a routine! Welcome to our new students: Joey, Lilliana, and Trenton! Isaiah 60:1 We are reviewing the letters we have learned so far again this week and learning the number 10. Have a Blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break! Our class would like to wish Kelove a happy birthday on Dec. 24th. When you get your child's report card, please sign it and return it to school. This helps me know that you saw it. I will send another copy back to you and keep the signed card. Thank you for your help on this matter. Also, this Friday will be show and tell; please have your child bring something that fits in their backpack. Have a remarkable New Year!! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy New Year! Memory verse for Friday is Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. There will not be a spelling test this week, but we will have math homework. Turn in your December Book It Reading Logs this week for the Pizza Hut certificate. Report cards were sent home today. Sign one of the copies and return back to me. I pray that you all had a phenomenal break and were able to celebrate Jesus with family and friends! As we hop back into the rhythms of school, we are beginning new units in social studies and science. We’ll continue with reading, math, religion, and writing similar to before. No memory or spelling this week. Memory will be on Thursday and spelling will be on Friday. Next week’s memory will be James 1:19-20. Yesterday your child and I discussed their AR goal and set new goals for this quarter. They blew their 2nd quarter goals out of the park, which was awesome!! We have a field trip this Friday, January 7, to go ice skating. Report cards are also coming home with your child, so please look over those with your child, sign them, and return them by next Wed., January 12. THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Hello 2022! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. I love hearing what everyone got for Christmas. These kids are so blessed! Thank you also, for all of your gifts you blessed me with. Spending time with your kids is amazing, they keep me on my toes and I just love them all. This week: Spelling, Memory, and Reading test on Friday. We will take these before we head to our field trip. Science: We will be finishing our unit on Matter in the next coming weeks. Social Studies: Next week we will be starting a new unit on Government. Reading: We are about to finish this unit, so look for a chapter book in the next two weeks. Writing: I am not happy with where my kids are with writing and creative writing. I am going to be trying something new. For now, we will not be doing the weekly story paragraphs, we will be focusing more on creative writing. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. A.R. Let’s help the kids start on the right footing and stay there. I am AMAZED how many are ready to jump onto the new AR quarter by reading over Christmas break! 5th Grade & Middle School 5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: This week we'll be starting a unit on prayer. Our memory work this month is going to be the Apostles Creed, which will be due on Friday, January 21st. It's a long memory verse, but we'll be splitting it up to help students study. STUDENT COUNCIL – Mrs. Harbeson: Put this on your calendar! Middle School Winter Dance, Friday, February 25, 7-9:00 p.m. 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: Happy New Year and welcome back. 6th and 7th we are continuing with chapter 6 where we are working with integers to start understanding prealgebra. 7th and 8th we are in chapter 6 learning about ratios, proportions and probabilities. SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Welcome to 2022! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! We are going to be hitting the ground running in Science! 5th Grade will be reviewing Scientific Names and their origins- that test will be MONDAY! 6th Grade- We are reviewing mass and matter and will be moving into atoms, molecules, substances and compounds! 7th Grade-We are starting Chapter 6- Earthquakes! 8th Grade- We are starting Chapter 6- Genetics of organisms! Please remind your child to check their fast directs and Google Classrooms for assignments! PE- This semester we will start practicing for track related events and start learning/reviewing spring and summer sports! If your 5th-8th grade child is interested in participating on the track team, please contact me! I am also actively looking for someone or someone’s to assist with track in a coaching aspect! Let me know if you are interested! Our basketball games pick back up next week--get out and support your Cardinal athletes! Reminder-work is late if it is not completed and turned in ON TIME- I gave some grace last semester but I feel by second semester everyone should be on the same page. If you have any questions, please let me know! LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: It is great to be back in the classroom with your awesome children! And, we are thankful to add Ella to our middle-school classes! We hit the ground running with the creation account in religion classes and a semester 1 grammar review in English classes. This short week will consist of memory work, new AR books, and composition work on creative writing chapters and such. Reading logs will resume next week but post Friday. Also, fifth graders are transitioning to online reading logs, so be ready. They can do it! Lastly, congratulations to Jolyssa for being selected to publish her poetry. If you see her, then be sure to give her a high-five! SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: Welcome back! All classes are starting out the week with review. 5th Grade will be continuing with learning about the early history of the U.S. 6th Grade will be exploring primary sources and will be able to explain the difference between fact and opinion. 7th Grade will be learning about the origins of WWI and why it led up to the first global war. 8th Grade will be finishing up their Westward Expansion unit.
