Praise God that we had an extra long weekend. Had six test positive on the weekend and six others are home because of exposure from parents/siblings. Stay healthy or stay away (LOL).

2-PAYMENT TUITION REMINDER: If you opted to pay your tuition for the year in two payments, the second half payment is due MONDAY, January 31; after that date, the applied discount will be removed from your account. Please contact the office if you want to change plans.

HELP! The church has been approached by a large family that is recently homeless and in need. They need clothing items for themselves and their 5 children. If you can help, please bring your new / clean & recently laundered items to the church or school office.  14 year old girl: pants 11/12, tops 11/12 M/L, shoes  10 year old boy: pants 14/16, tops 14/16 XL, shoes 9, bra 34B 6.5  13 year old boy: pants 32/36 (very tall and slim),  8 year old boy: pants 10/12, tops 10/12, shoes 2 tops M/L, shoes 13.5  6 year old boy: pants 7/8, tops 7/8, shoes 13.5 THANK YOU to everyone who has brought in clothes and shoes for the needy family! You are a blessing to others, who need and appreciate the help!

AND WHILE WE’RE THANKING FOLKS: Thank you to the volunteers, parents, students, and staff members who made the Christmas Light show possible this year. Through you, we raised $200 for our Peanut Butter and Jelly Brigade, who hands out peanut butter sandwiches to needy families. We appreciate you!

TAX STATEMENT: If you need a tax statement from FLS for your taxes, you can print it yourself by logging into FastDirect, click on “Finance” on the top, and then click on “tax report” over on the left. Choose the tax year that you need (probably 2021), and then click on “tax year printout”. You can print your payments during that year, and it has our tax i.d. # on the top (It is 73-6083110). OR…you can call/stop by/email me, and I will print one for you.

Mr. Birnbaum: Thank you all for your help and patience as we continue to figure out how to deal appropriately with the pandemic. I praise God for our faculty who were at times highly stressed last year and this year working calmly through the uncertain times. Keep praying for us.

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: Our daycare is experiencing a high number of illnesses. Thankfully, we have been able to keep all covid related illnesses out of our classrooms. PLEASE help us by keeping children with any of the following symptom’s home (This list is from the CDC website and what DHS requires us to follow):

Fever, Chills, Cough, Headache, Sore Throat, Congestion or Runny Nose, Shortness of Breath, Difficulty Breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or Body Aches, Diarrhea, Vomiting, or Stomach Ache.

Daycare parents, PLEASE make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpacks (or cubbies) in case of accidents. We have depleted all extra clothes we had and we don't want to have to inconvenience you to bring up clothes or pick your child up when an accident occurs. MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: Elementary students are working on passing games, where we pass the ball to a steady beat. We are also working on rhythm reading. Middle school students have started singing and we are looking forward to their performances in church at 9:00 a.m. on the following dates:  6th Grade: February 13  7th Grade: April 10  8th Grade: May 8 PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: We are beginning work on scissor skills this week: safety, materials, cutting. We are also learning to make sets of 1, 2, & 3. Our letters this week are Q, R, & S. Have a blessed rest of the week!!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone had a good break! This week we are finishing up learning about the letters B,N, and F as well as working on opposites and bigger and smaller. Have a Blessed week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Rylan! Report cards were due back last week. If you haven't signed and returned yours, please do that tomorrow. Our Bible words this week are, I trust in you O Lord. Psalm 31:14 We are learning the Letters Rr,Ee,Bb and the number 12. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: If you have not brought your Cowley College field trip form back with money please do so tomorrow. They were due on the 18th. The kids are excited about going to see Junie B. Jones on February 3rd. We will leave school at 12:15 and we do need drivers. The tickets are $1.00 for students and adults that attend.

Sorry, we will not be able to take any late reservations after tomorrow (Thursday the 20th).

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Mark 10:14 - Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of God.” If you have not turned in your field trip form and money, please do so by tomorrow. We will not be able to take any late reservations after Thursday. Book orders were sent home today. Orders are due online or with a check to me by next Thursday, Jan. 27. Our 100 th day of school is on Tuesday, Feb. 1. We are collecting canned goods for our Church Pantry. They may be brought to school any time. Happy birthday to Calvin on Sunday! Have a great week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! I hope you enjoyed your long weekend.

Memory next week will be the Doxology (Praise God from whom all blessings flow…). In reading this week we are talking about folk tales and each student is selecting their fable or folk tale to learn about and teach to the class. This will be their graded project assessment for that unit and most work will be done in class, but some students may want or need to take theirs home to work on. My estimate is that they’ll finish them early next week. Our social studies assessment is still on track for this Friday and that will have vocabulary, symbols to match, and a couple of short answer questions. We are beginning our unit on habitats this week in Science. We have begun two-digit addition with regrouping in math, so that will be our main focus with other lessons interspersed. We are still practicing our subtraction math facts, so those should be worked on at home, too!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: I hope everyone had a very nice long weekend! Thank you Paige and family for water bottles. We appropriate you! We could still use more as the kids drink a lot of water (this is not a bad thing). This week: Spelling, Reading, Math Fact test on Friday. Next week is a review week. We will be doing review spelling words and working on a chapter book. Science: We are starting a new unit on sound. Social Studies: working our way through the government. Book Report: Be on the lookout for our next project! Look for: the kids LOVE smelly stickers. If any of you find any and willing to donate some, I would greatly appreciate it. Field Trip: If you have not got your forms in for the play, please get them to me ASAP. Grades: Grades are updated. If you child has been sick, please give me some time to get those papers graded and sorted through. Have a wonderful week and stay well.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Many are already reading thick books for the next goal; Amazing Work! MW State and Cap test is on the 16th of February. This New Year, quarter, and semester are great opportunities for a good start and blank slate to write our new blank book that we all write with Christ as our center and focus. It is never a good idea to have late work or not turn in work from being absent! Mid terms come out February 2nd. Many are having way too many corrections on work. Help the kids to check for simple errors as they may be rushing to be complete an assignment. There is time to not have a shock when you look at grades. Fast Direct allows us to see all late work. Our field trip permission slip for Cowley College on the 2nd is due Friday the 21st. Have you seen the latest Friday Letter for (2)

5th Grade & Middle School 5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Memory work on Friday, January 21st is the Apostle's Creed. Students will have the option to either write it completely or say it to me.

STUDENT COUNCIL – Mrs. Harbeson: Put this on your calendar! Middle School Winter Dance, Friday, February 25, 7-9:00 p.m.

6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th chapter 6 is long and we are still trying to finish it up. This week we are working with rational numbers, the distributive property and graphing points on a plane as well as IXL on our Chromebooks.

7th and 8th chapter 6 is long and we are still trying to finish it up. This week we are working on scale drawings, probability and odds, and reinforcing these topics with IXL Chromebook assignments.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: I hope everyone enjoyed their four day weekend! We are hard at it in Science!

5th Grade is studying Chemical and Physical reactions!

6th Grade is continuing to learn the periodic table and understand elements!

7th is still working on Tectonic plates and Earthquakes!

8th Grade is working towards finishing up their Chapter 5!

PE- This week they will play wiffle ball or basketball!

We had students participate in the Hoop Shoot on Sunday! While I have not gotten all of their results, I do know that Mea Matthison and Reese Andrews both won their age division and Kinley Brown placed second!

This week Varsity Girls head to Jefferson City, MO for the Trinity Lutheran Tournament! There is a 5th grade tournament at home on Friday and Saturday- if you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer- let me know!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: This week is Language Hall in English classes! As middle-school students have a quiz, test, reading log, and/or homework (English classes) due between tomorrow and Tuesday, students certainly appreciate this dedicated week in class to work on and study for those things. Here are the goods: Thursday, January 20 - Literature quizzes (grades sixth through eighth) Outline work (fifth grade) Friday, January 21 - Reading logs due Monday, January 24 - Vocabulary tests (grades sixth through eighth) - Book report writing (fifth grade) Tuesday, January 25 - Grammar homework pages due (will be posted on Google Classroom) SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 8th Grade: Test moved back to Friday. We will go over the build up to the civil war after the test.

7th Grade: Students will have test over WWI on Friday. Study guide will be posted on Google Classrooms by Wednesday.

6th Grade: Presentations will go through Thursday. After that, students will review state standards based on government and immigration.

5th Grade: we will have a quiz on Thursday! Will be over westward trails and notes they have taken the past week.
