Onceagain,thehardworkbehindthe scenesbyGrahamHarveyandSimon Rhodeshasbroughtanother TravellingExhibitioncompetitionto fruitionandIthankthembothfor theirefforts.

TheTravellingExhibitionandindeed theRallyhavebeenfixturesinthe ClubcalendarforaslongasIhave beenamember,approaching20 yearsnow.TheRallymarkedthefirst venuefortheprintstobehungbefore beginningitsjourneytovariousclubs aroundthecountry.Indeed,itwasthe TE,broughttoTorbayPSbyJohn Maule,PPCmemberandthenTPS ProgrammeSecretary,thatintroduced metotheclub.IjoinedC19with Johnandstilldeliverpouchestohim regularly.

ThefirstRallyIattendedwasheldat RydalHallin2010andwehaven’t

missedmanysince.

Withnoonesteppingforwardto organisetheRallyandthecirculation oftheTE,andinviewofthemarked decreaseinentriesinbothsections thisyear,thecompetitionwillbe discussedatthenextCommittee Meeting.Indeed,pleasefeedback anycomments,suggestions,offersto takeonaroleintheClubthrough yourCircleSecretaryordirectlytome viaemail.

InadditiontothemainAward winners,CertificatesofMeritwere awardedandafurtherselectionof entrieswereacceptedforthe Exhibition.Inaddition.withno touringexhibitionthisyear(owingto thefactthatwehavenoTravelling ExhibitionSecretary)thoseofyou whousuallyseetheTEatyourown clubwillalsomissout.

FortunatelytheCompetition Secretariesarestillinplacesowecan atleastbringyouthisyear’sresults andwewillalsoprovidealinktoa slideshowhostedontheClub’s YouTubechannelsoyoucanviewthe fortyimagesatyourleisure.Iwill postthelinksatthefootofthe GeneralSecretary’seditorial.

Oneotherchangeforthisyearisthat wearepresentingtheresultsasthree separateissues.Iknowmanyofyou simplyreadthePDFversionbuta reasonablenumberalsoenjoythe page-turningversiononISSUUtoo.

HeisalsoacameraclubjudgefortheL&CPUand formanyyearswasChairmanandTreasurerand beforethatSyllabusSecretaryforADAPS.

Thereisamagnificentpainterlyfeelingtothis image.Allthecomponentsfittogether–thecolour palette,thesenseofaction,thepyramid compositionandtheplacementoftheball.Allthose involvedareproperlyonboard,withnobody'seyes strayingfromthesinglepoint.

Theimagedeservesitsplaceasacolourwinner becauseofthestrengthofitsveryharmonious colourpalette.Colourdoesnothavetobegarish,it canbesubtleandstillhaveenormousimpact.Just asthebestmonochromeimagesarethosewhich cryouttobemonochrome,sotoowithcolour.This imagecriesouttobeincolouranditthenbecomes elevatedthankstothesheerimaginativeskillthe photographerhasshowninhandlingthemutedbut stilldramaticrange.

So,afineimagethatcombinesaction,fine compositionandgorgeousprintingwithits magnificentcolourpalette.

Thestandardofmonochromeimagesinthis exhibitionisamazing,andatthepinnaclewehave thisextraordinarylandscape.

Theformalapproachtothecompositionisperfectly pitchedforwhatareindeedformalgardens.The graphicnatureofblackandwhiteisanexcellent choicehere,butevenmoresoasthephotographer hasdecidedtogoonestepfurtherandemploy infra-redeffects.Thisaddsasurrealelementtothe image,makingawonderfullydramaticlandscape somethingevenmorespecial.

Thisworkssowell,astherailsleadusintothe mainpartoftheimage,butalsothecloudsof steamsurroundandcossetthetrainandcarriages, holdingtheattentionfirmlyintothecentralarea.

Sadlythedecisionwastaken nottorunthepanel competitionthisyearaswe hadjusttwoentries.We wouldliketothankthetwo memberswhodidsubmit CaroleWetherley&David Jamesandwehaveincluded theirsubmissionshere.

David'swasasplendidpaneloftheWhitbyGothweekend-I'm surehecouldhavesubmitted44imagesletalone4.Hisselection ofportraitimagesshowingthesimpleyetelegantcostumesofthe Gothladiestotheelaboratecostumesandmakeupthatgoon duringtheweekend.TheseGoth/Steampunkeventsarealsoa photographer'sdreaminthatthesubjectsaremorethanhappyto bephotographed.

Beverleyssubmissionwasaverydifferenttakeonthepanel.The closeupviewofsomeveryweatheredstoneshowedoffsome wonderfulpatternanddetailspresentedasatriptychstylewiththe forthpanelacombinationoftheotherthreeasatriptychwasvery clever.

Thisisacalltoallmembers.Thereasontoshowcasethesetwo entriesisnotonlythatyouseethetalentofthesetwo photographersandthatanythinggoesinthepanelcompetition, buttohighlightthecompetitionisinveryseriousdangerof disappearingfromtheTE.
