Onceagain,thehardworkbehindthe scenesbyGrahamHarveyandSimon Rhodeshasbroughtanother TravellingExhibitioncompetitionto fruitionandIthankthembothfor theirefforts.
TheTravellingExhibitionandindeed theRallyhavebeenfixturesinthe ClubcalendarforaslongasIhave beenamember,approaching20 yearsnow.TheRallymarkedthefirst venuefortheprintstobehungbefore beginningitsjourneytovariousclubs aroundthecountry.Indeed,itwasthe TE,broughttoTorbayPSbyJohn Maule,PPCmemberandthenTPS ProgrammeSecretary,thatintroduced metotheclub.IjoinedC19with Johnandstilldeliverpouchestohim regularly.
ThefirstRallyIattendedwasheldat RydalHallin2010andwehaven’t
missedmanysince.

Withnoonesteppingforwardto organisetheRallyandthecirculation oftheTE,andinviewofthemarked decreaseinentriesinbothsections thisyear,thecompetitionwillbe discussedatthenextCommittee Meeting.Indeed,pleasefeedback anycomments,suggestions,offersto takeonaroleintheClubthrough yourCircleSecretaryordirectlytome viaemail.
Noneofwhich,ofcourse,should detractfromthequalityofwork entered,andmanycongratulationsto allwithacceptedandawarded images.Andwelldone,also,toour PhotographersoftheYear-whowill berevealedinaPhotonewsPOTY Special.

FortunatelytheCompetition Secretariesarestillinplacesowecan atleastbringyouthisyear’sresults andwewillalsoprovidealinktoa slideshowhostedontheClub’s YouTubechannelsoyoucanviewthe fortyimagesatyourleisure.Iwill postthelinksatthefootofthe GeneralSecretary’seditorial.
Oneotherchangeforthisyearisthat wearepresentingtheresultsasthree separateissues.Iknowmanyofyou simplyreadthePDFversionbuta reasonablenumberalsoenjoythe page-turningversiononISSUUtoo.
Changestotheirchargingmodel howeverlimitsthenumberofpages wecanuploadwithoutbuyinga professionalpackage-somethingwe couldnotjustifyforafewissuesof Photonewsayear.Youwillhave receivedappropriatelinksforeachof thecompetitionspecialsfromRoger viaemail. TheTravellingExhibition-2023(DPI)
Davehadhisfirstcamerasomefiftyyearsagoand hasbeeninterestedinphotographyeversince.His mainfocushasalwaysbeenontheimageandnot theequipment,atrendwhichcontinuestothisday.In thisrespectDavewasfortunateinhisearlydaysto haveamentorwhohelpedhimtounderstandthat techniqueisalwaysnecessarybuttheresulting imageiswhatreallycounts.Hismentorwasan excellentandwellrespectedphotographerwholater becamePresidentoftheRPS,andguidedhimtoan LRPStostart,followedbyARPS.
Havingbeenanimageassessororjudgeforsome thirty-fouryearsorsoDave'sphotographic philosophyhasremainedconstanttothisidea–“It’s notwhatyoulookatit’swhatyouseeandfeel”.
AsafoundermemberofWigan10foto,hisrangeof imageinterestswasenhancedandenlargedasthe groupcompetedinworldwideexhibitions.
Ultimatesuccessintheseexhibitionsledtothe awardsuptoBPE5*,toAFIAP,followedbyEFIAP, andultimatelytoMFIAP,andrecentlyanMPSA2.
