The Abbott BinaxNow rapid COVID-19 testing program, is modeled after a program for Texas schools implemented by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Emergency Management in October 2020. The program is a proactive effort to help keep businesses open and protect our citizens.

“The rapid testing program is protecting the safety of business owners, their employees, and consumers as we continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” stated Rod Henry, Temple Chamber President. “This program aligns with our mission to advocate for the community by preserving, protecting, and promoting a business-friendly environment.”

To qualify for the program, businesses must designate a Test Administrator to become certified on proper testing protocols to include test administration and reporting results as required by law. The certification process is simple and takes an estimated half hour to complete.

The Chamber received an allocation of the Abbott BinaxNow test kits, facemasks, product training, and support to refill supplies as available. Additional supplies are allocated from the state after all participating businesses have administered and reported test results of at least 70% of the tests allocated to the Chamber.

The Temple Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors had a special guest at their August meeting, an exceptional young Temple leader, Benjamin Hall. Benjamin, is a fourth grader at Temple ISD’s Western Hills Elementary.

Earlier this year, the community and Temple Chamber of Commerce foundation, Temple Futures, rallied behind Benjamin to enable him to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Academy this past summer.

Benjamin shared his experience with the Chamber Board, and showcased a variety of projects, including the mBot he built and programmed to be controlled from a mobile phone.

With all the new amenities, there will also be a new menu featuring farm-totable food. “We find that our customers really like the option of having food, and we do too,” Adriane spoke on the excitement for a new menu. “I love a good salad or high-end fresh ingredients from local farmers or our backyard.

We want a simple menu where we can focus on what we can do well, with locally sourced ingredients.”

When their doors opened in Belton, TX, on June 2, 2018, Adriane & Patrick Hodges had no idea what was in store for them and the Bold Republic Brewery Team. Now, three years later, Bold Republic has survived through a pandemic, a new baby, and outgrown their tiny kitchen and inventory space.

Co-owner Adriane Hodges recalled when they first opened, “we did a lot of DIY [in our current space], and we’re lucky we started here, with not too big of a bite. That way, we could make all the mistakes and have the opportunity to invest in something.”

Co-owner Patrick Hodges spoke on why they chose the West Adams area, “the park [Crossroads] is so busy, we hope to cater to people visiting from out of town at sporting events as a place to wait in between games.” The brewery will sit next to the hike & bike trail, with hopes to catch those exploring town in the afternoon.

Bold Republic will also bring new jobs to Temple. Patrick spoke on the new positions they were working to fill, “we’ll increase our staff with a few more bartenders and more cooking jobs. We definitely will have a big role to fill with someone who has professional experience running a kitchen.” The team at Bold prides themselves in their employee culture, “we truly love our whole staff, and we treat each other like family.”

Construction will begin in late September at the new location, 7070 Stonehollow Drive, with an estimated opening in Summer 2022.

Owned and operated by the Hodges family, Bold Republic has a place in many central Texan’s hearts as a relaxing spot to spend an afternoon or evening with family, friends, and pets.

In July of 2021, Bold Republic closed on a few acres off West Adams near Crossroads Park in Temple, TX. They will be relocating with plans to expand on the services offered.

Camryn Bintz is an accounting and finance professional who oversees Kasberg, Patrick & Associates, LP day-to-day accounting, administrative, and marketing operations.

Tucker came to Central Texas in 2008 to attend UMHB and play football for Coach Fredenburg. In 2012, he was offered an internship in the President’s office, which led to a full-time position on the fundraising team upon graduating. Tucker is passionate about Christian Higher Education and making it more financially accessible to all people.

Camryn is a Certified Public Accountant, as well as a Certified Construction Industry Finance Professional, licensed in the State of Texas. She received a Master of Business Administration Degree, with a focus in Accounting and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2016.

Tucker currently resides in Temple with his wife Karli and their two sons, Jed and Brooks.

Jake is active and has held leadership roles in multiple professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) and National Society of Professional Engineers. He was named Young Engineer of the Year in 2015 by TSPE.

Previously, Bre worked as a teacher and athletic trainer with Temple ISD. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training (Cum Laude) from Texas State University and a Master of Education in Sports Administration from Concordia University.

Bre serves on the Wildcat Mentor, Un-Included Club, and Temple Education Foundation Boards, and is Vice President of the Central TX Athletic Trainer’s Society.

FRIDAY, September 3, 2021 Jason Culp is the Director of Operations for Baylor Scott & White Health’s McLane Children’s Clinics in Temple. In this role he serves as the Administrator for the Department of Pediatrics and directly manages ambulatory locations throughout Central TX.

Alfonzo James (AJ) is the 1A Dry Operations Manager for Walmart Distribution 6083, a company focused on helping customers save money so they can live better. He has over 20 years of Omni channel logistics management experience.

In 2017, He became a licensed master’s level social worker via Simmons University. He previously co-chaired Mi-Futuro, a Walmart sponsored mentoring program that strived to aid at risk youth in the local public school system with educational planning, focus and real-world workforce exposure.

Jason is a 1997 Graduate of Temple High School, before earning a Bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 2001 (VA), and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.

Jason currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ralph-Wilson Youth Club and the Temple Parks Foundation.

Dr. Kelly Madden is an Administrator with Temple Independent School District, serving Temple High School.

As an educator of 26 years, Dr. Madden appreciates the value of learning and serving others. She has been recognized as Project Lead the Way Outstanding Education Leader and a Statewide SemiFinalist for H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. She is a member of First Baptist Church Temple and a member of Rotary Club of Temple.

Kevin resides in Belton, TX, with his wife of 20 years Summer, their 3 children (Bella – 18, Isaiah – 15, and Micaiah – 11) and their dog Max. In his spare time, he enjoys his kids’ activities, sports of all sorts, and good ol’ Texas Barbecue!

Tyson McLaughlin is Vice President of Commercial Lending at Extraco Banks in Temple. Tyson is a native of Belton, where he currently resides with his wife, Amy, and their three daughters, Ellie, Baylor and Charli. Prior to working in Commercial Banking, Tyson was a mortgage lender with The Wood Group of Fairway Mortgage in Belton. Tyson also has prior experience in Project Management, Manufacturing, Financial Analysis, Real Estate and Public Accounting.

In 1998, she became involved in EMS and served Bell and Falls Counties as a Volunteer Fire Fighter-EMT/Paramedic for ten years. While serving the City of Temple she held the position of Critical Care Paramedic.

6 / TEMPLE DAILY TELEGRAM Shawn M. Reynolds, Chief of Police of Temple, TX, Police Department, is a twotime graduate of Mid-American Nazarene University. He also served the university as an adjunct professor in criminal justice. Previously, Shawn served the City of Olathe, KS, as Deputy Chief of PoliceOperations (2016-2020) and Deputy Chief of Police-Administration (20142016). Reynolds joined the Olathe Police Department in 1996 and rose through the ranks. He also served as an officer with the Leavenworth Police Department (1994-1996). He became Police Chief in Temple in June 2020. He has been married for 31 years to Bess and is the father to Samantha and Dakota and papa to Tucker and Kaison.

Mike Rousell is a Certified Public Accountant at Brockway, Gersbach, Franklin and Niemeier (BGFN, PC). He is a proud Alumni of Copperas Cove High school and a 2009 graduate of Tabor College. He is former collegiate athlete earning a spot on the basketball team and also later becoming an All American in the triple jump in Track and Field. He proudly serves on the board of the Temple Rotary South Club. He is actively involved in the community; however, his biggest honor is being a Dad.

Brian Stokes is an Art Director at Woodward Creative Group, a full-service graphic design, advertising, website development & marketing agency.

Brian is a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown and of the Portfolio Center design school in Atlanta. He worked as a designer for Hallmark Cards and Abercrombie & Fitch before returning to Texas in 2012 and starting Trick Pony Studio, his line of graphic t-shirts which he continues to sell at stores in Austin.

CUTTING Temple Children’s Museum The Temple Children’s Museum (TCM) celebrated the official opening on August 30, 2021. TCM is located at 11 N. 4th Street in Temple. TCM exists to spark curiosity through hands-on learning, and their exhibits are designed with children ages 0 to 8 years old in mind.

They offer two ways to visit the museum – Open Hours and Private Group Experiences.

Open hours beginning September 6, 2021, are:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday | 9:00 – 11:00 am, Monday and Tuesday | 4:30 – 6:30 pm, and 2nd and 3rd Saturdays | 9:00 – 11:00 am.

Private Group Experiences are booked outside of open hours, based on facility and staff availability, by calling (254) 307-8456.

As of August 30, 2021, all staff and volunteers will wear masks when guests are present. Masks for guests are optional.

Volunteer to Make A Difference

Tanya Gray, Keep Temple Beautiful We all have opportunities to change the world every day, from adopting a highway to patrol for litter to volunteering at a local shelter to help the homeless.

It is amazing what a small effort by an individual or group of individuals can do to change the world...or at least their local neighborhood. As humans, we tend to assume that we are so small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things that our actions will not make a significant difference. However, this could not be further from the truth. If we all do one small thing collectively, it makes a massive difference.

Something as simple as checking in on your elderly neighbor now and then can make a difference in their life. Of course, the planet needs our efforts, from using less plastic to going green in the home, there are lots of things we can do.

It does not always need to be a grand gesture. Often, it is simply giving a little bit of your time to make someone else feel good, which is one thing that we can all do. On Saturday, October 23, 2021, we are preparing for the annual Make A Difference Day, and we will need volunteers like you to make it another great success.

Make A Difference Day is a collective effort of doing good for others, and with your help, we intend to do just that. Held annually on the fourth Saturday in October, millions worldwide are rallied into a single day of action to give back to their communities while helping to change the world.

Keep Temple Beautiful Volunteers in action at the Lee Crossley Veteran Community.

Make A Difference Day was established to encourage us to take one day a year to actively try to make a difference in the world. This day has been crafted so that we can all come together and help people who need it the most.

Materials Transportation Company (MTC) of Temple is celebrating its 75th Anniversary. MTC is an ESOP company and is 100% employeeowned. MTC began its operation in Chicago, Illinois, in 1946, and moved to Temple, Texas in 1977. It’s campus has 7 buildings and sits on 13 acres on South Commerce Street.

MTC has 2 product lines and manufactures food processing equipment and battery handling equipment. Our current customers

include Target, Walmart, Campbell Soup, Nestle, Ashley Furniture & Dollar Tree. MTC ships its product all over the world and has customers in Canada, Mexico, South America, South Africa, Europe, and Australia.

MTC has 150 employees of which 20% are veterans. MTC is involved in the community and region and is a member of the Texas Association of Business and Temple Chamber of Commerce. MTC is active with the United Way, Baylor-Scott White

on site blood drives, Central Texas Workforce Solutions, and Heroes Make America.
