PREPARING THE LEADERS AND INNOVATORS OF TOMORROW — TODAY
Imagine a community where students explore, create and problem-solve their way to success. That’s what education looks like in Lake Nona. Every day over 16,000 students — from preschoolers to PhD candidates — are fostering creativity, thinking critically and building confidence. These future-ready skills prepare them to tackle tomorrow’s challenges head on.
Early Education:
Sparking curiosity from the start
In Lake Nona, the littlest learners are encouraged to dream big. At preschools like Primrose, Goddard and The Learning Experience , preschoolers dive into fun, hands-on activities that feed their natural curiosity.
Programs like Amazing Explorers focus on STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Learning feels more like play as kids explore their world and experiment with new ideas. These experiences foster a lifelong love of discovery and innovative thinking.
Elementary
School: A space to explore and grow
The educational fun continues at elementary school where students explore new ideas in practical ways. Schools like NorthLake Park Community School and Laureate Park and Village Park Elementary Schools provide engaging projects that address real-world problems.
This approach makes every lesson more meaningful.
Middle School:
Where innovation meets imagination
At Lake Nona and Luminary Middle Schools, students engage in hands on projects and creative decision-making. During this time, they find their voice and discover their passions.
For example, teams work together to create solar-powered solutions for the Sun Games every March. Like innovators Ada Lovelace, George Washington Carver and Nikola Tesla, they realize mistakes are an important part of learning.
High School: Preparing for the future
Lake Nona High School guides students through programs like LaunchED, providing essential skills for college, trade schools and careers.
In the agriscience department, students connect with nature and learn responsibility and patience. Whether in labs or the fields, they grow the confidence to face life’s next challenges.
Post-Secondary Education:
From creativity to real-world impact
Lake Nona doesn’t stop there. From associate degrees to PhDs, students can pursue local programs at Valencia College and the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and University of Florida Research and Academic Center at Lake Nona.
These campuses are launching pads for careers in healthcare, technology and agriculture. With state-of-the-art facilities and expert faculty, scholars become tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.
Education for a changing world
Here in Lake Nona, education is more than academics. It’s about preparing students to meet the challenges of the future.
When students are encouraged to experiment, imagine and find solutions, they gain resilience and a lifelong passion for learning.
That’s education done right.
A BLUEPRINT FOR URBAN ECOSYSTEMS
In Lake Nona, you’ll find more than eye-catching art and impressive architectural design. As you wander along our trails or go about your day, there’s a lively ecological tapestry unfolding around you, blending the beauty of nature into the fabric of our community.
Natural spaces, from lush gardens to glimmering ponds, are integral to everyday life in Lake Nona. This setting is where thoughtful urban planning and ecological care come together. At the heart of this effort is Lake Nona’s passionate landscaping team. They go beyond traditional landscaping to create and nurture ecosystems that enhance both the area’s aesthetics and its biodiversity. Their efforts are central to the community’s environmental health.
Director of Landscape Architecture, Jeff Thompson, leads the initiative with a pragmatic approach. The vibrant plants across Lake Nona, from the Town Center to Laureate Park, have been specifically selected to attract mason bees, as one example. These friendly bees are key to our ecosystem, thriving in community settings and excelling in pollination, and their hard work naturally improves soil quality.
“Mason bees are terrific pollinators and are key to sustaining our ecosystem by helping plants reproduce,” said Thompson. “And they’re solitary, unlike honeybees. This makes them much more docile, and they can adapt better to a modern suburban environment like Lake Nona.”
But mason bees aren’t the only insects buzzing into Lake Nona. Blooming nectar plants are also attracting butterflies. Did you know that Florida is home to more than 200 species of butterflies? From Monarchs and Swallowtails to Zebra Longwings (our state butterfly), there are so many different species that have a home in Lake Nona.
Rising above the flowerbeds are the ecosystem’s foundation – trees. And in Lake Nona, we have a lot of them. From preserved green spaces to new landscaping additions, trees are crucial to a productive ecosystem.
Since 2018, Lake Nona’s tree relocation program has moved more than 600 trees, including oaks, palms, crepe myrtles and maples, to new homes throughout the community. These mature trees add immediate value to the Lake Nona ecosystem. Thanks to their wide canopies, mature trees provide shade and nesting and sheltering space for birds, mammals and insects.
To make the trails more enjoyable during Florida’s sunny days, long-leaf pines have been added, providing shade and attracting local wildlife like playful and lively fox squirrels.
Home to more than 1,000 acres of lakes and waterways, the bodies of water in Lake Nona also play a critical role in our community’s ecosystem. Beneath the serene surfaces of Lake Nona’s many ponds lie a rich aquatic ecosystem teeming with life.
Over the last few years, Lake Nona’s landscaping team has introduced a variety of fish species including bass, catfish and bluegills. Most notable, however, are the mosquitofish who have an appetite for mosquito larvae, serving as a natural pest control and helping to keep the pests at bay before they become a problem. Additionally, the placement of bat and martin houses aids in controlling adult mosquito populations, reducing the reliance on pesticides.
The rewilding of these ponds didn’t stop at the water’s edge – the shores of these ponds have been adorned with littoral plants, creating lush green belts that not only enhance the beauty of the landscape but also serve as vital habitats for a multitude of creatures. These verdant fringes have become a home for amphibians, a hunting ground for insects and a buffet for birds.
Speaking of birds, you may have noticed that the skies above Lake Nona have become a playground for beautiful birds like eagles, grackles and cardinals. Rare species such as the roseate spoonbill and scissortail kite grace the skies with their majestic presence, drawn to the area by the abundance of food and suitable nesting sites. A new initiative to add shrimp to our lakes keeps the spoonbill bird satiated and lends to its pink hue. The introduction of cypress trees around the ponds has been a game-changer, providing the perfect roosting and nesting spots for these feathered visitors.
As Lake Nona grows, its ecosystem flourishes alongside it, shaping a community lifestyle that balances urban living with natural beauty. Every initiative, big and small, helps strike a balance between cutting-edge amenities and Florida’s rich biodiversity, enriching the lives of those who live, work and visit Lake Nona.

Building a blueprint for better living:
The Lake Nona Life Project
Imagine if every step you took, every meal you enjoyed and every choice you made could help build a healthier community.
The Lake Nona Life Project is doing just that — empowering our community to live healthier, happier lives through a groundbreaking study in lifestyle wellness.
What is the Lake Nona Life Project?
The project is a long-term study that gathers insights from Lake Nona’s residents, workers, students and visitors. The goal? To understand how daily choices impact our health over a lifetime.
The initiative is a partnership between the UCF College of Medicine, Nona Analytics, Lake Nona Institute, Lake Nona Performance Club and our own citizen scientists (that’s you!). It offers a unique chance to contribute to research that makes a real difference.
How does it work?
Each year, participants complete an online survey. Researchers then measure how participants’ health and wellbeing change over time alongside the broader Lake Nona community.
This data gives us a close look at how our everyday choices — like what we eat and how we move and handle stress — influence our overall wellness.
The survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. You can pause and resume the survey later without losing any data. We recommend you use your personal email when registering so the confirmation email does not go to your spam folder.
All information and data provided as part of the survey are kept completely confidential and de-identified before being made available only to the UCF research team for analysis. Survey responses cannot be linked back to any individual participant.
With these insights, we’re developing healthier community initiatives, launching more wellness-focused events and providing stronger support systems community-wide.
And because Lake Nona is a one-of-a-kind living laboratory, the work we do here could become a blueprint for wellness-focused communities around the world.
Who can participate?
If you live, work, study or regularly participate in activities here in Lake Nona, you can join us in this journey toward a healthier future.
As a bonus to participants, anyone who completes the survey will automatically get a free one-day pass to Lake Nona Performance Club, including the Rox Climbing Gym or the Chopra Mind-Body Zone. Keep it for yourself or give the pass to a friend or family member.
A snapshot of our wellness profile
Initial findings show that Lake Nona is a community that’s already thriving in many ways.
Fitness
Staying active is a priority here. An impressive 73% of participants fit in moderate workouts weekly and 69% enjoy more vigorous activities such as running, swimming and sports. Even better, 78% include weight training in their routines.
Nutrition
Lake Nona residents drink less soda than the national average, but there’s still room to grow when it comes to healthy eating. Right now, only 38% of participants eat fruit daily and a little more than half enjoy veggies every day.
Low smoking rates
Here’s something to celebrate — our smoking rates are well below the national average. Only 3.6% of our community members say they smoke traditional or e-cigarettes.
Stress management
Let’s face it: Life can throw a lot at us, and sometimes the stress piles up. Nearly one-third of participants reported moderate to severe stress levels. This shows the importance of creating a balanced, supportive community that benefits all of us.
These early insights show that Lake Nona is making great strides toward a healthier community and, with your help, we can keep the momentum going.

BUILT BETTER FOR BUSINESS
Long known for being the theme park capital of the world, Central Florida has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years.
While it still welcomes more visitors than anywhere else in the world, it’s the people who live here – and who are moving here – who have fueled this change.
The Orlando metropolitan area has one of the fastest-growing populations in the country and a workforce of over one million strong.
It’s also home to Lake Nona, a 17-square-mile “Living Lab” community providing a real-world test bed for companies looking to test and deploy innovative solutions at scale. Lake Nona is built for the future and is an ideal location for cutting-edge companies across a wide range of industries, including aerospace, healthcare technology, life sciences, medical research, cyber security and more. It is CISCO’s first Iconic Smart+Connected city in the U.S. and features an infrastructure wired with a growing 5G network, ready for what lies ahead.
Lake Nona was created by the Tavistock Group, an international private investment organization. Their vision has built a community of entrepreneurialism, collaboration and innovation with individual hubs devoted to health, wellbeing, human performance, business and education.
Contiguous to Orlando International Airport, this Airport City provides businesses and residents proximity to Florida’s busiest airport with direct connections to more than 150 cities around the globe. Locally, autonomous shuttles whisk passengers throughout Lake Nona, connecting the many office, medical, dining and entertainment districts located in the community.
Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of Lake Nona is the highly educated population that calls it and its surrounding areas home. These
tech-forward early adopters make up the workforce of the industryleading businesses located here, including Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, the U.S. Tennis Association, Nemours, GE, GuideWell, Signet, Verizon and more.
You don’t have to look far for the next generation of innovators either. With more than 500,000 college students within a 100-mile radius, Lake Nona businesses have access to a deep talent pool. The University of Central Florida is home to a nationally recognized Cyber Security and Privacy program and is the nation’s #1 workforce supplier to the aerospace and defense industry. Lake Nona is also home to the UCF College of Medicine, UCF Lake Nona Hospital, the University of Florida’s Research & Academic Center and Valencia College.
Lake Nona benefits greatly from Florida’s welcoming business climate with a low corporate income tax and no state property tax. Orlando’s already enticing tax policy can be further bolstered by incentives available to qualifying companies that are relocating or expanding to the area. The dollar goes further here, too, as the cost of living is 6.3% below the national average.
While Lake Nona looks toward the future, we’re open for business now. With robust transportation, an educated workforce, a low cost of living combined with a high standard of living, we’re partnering with businesses to create a destination where tomorrow’s innovations are happening today.
