REBECCA REBECCA A REAL ESTATE CAREER THAT’S DOUBLE THE FUN, TRIPLE THE REWARD Eight years ago, when Rebecca Sokol and her husband, Mike, were blessed with triplets, it was a natural decision for her to slow down her professional life and focus on motherhood — times three. While most can understand the joy and exhaustion of being a stay-at-home mom, Rebecca still felt she needed something more. As a very social, selfdriven and challenge-seeking person, Rebecca decided to get her real estate license and start a new career.

Her background in sales, coupled with her passion for real estate investments, steered Rebecca to a profession that was perfectly matched to her personality. “It was really my husband who convinced me to look into real estate,” Rebecca shared. “He shares my enthusiasm for real estate and lives vicariously through my career. We joke that he is the best assistant I could ask for — at the cheapest price.” In 2017, after staying at home to be with her kids, Rebecca joined the team at DOBI Real Estate in Birmingham and has since achieved a career volume of over $50 million — $25 million of which she did last year. “In my first two years, I worked part time and closed about $4 million each year, and I was happy with that,” she recalled, “but in my third year, my business blew up, and I realized I could do this full-time and make a very successful career out of it all while raising my kids.” Rebecca is motivated by a challenge and finds success whenever she’s helping others achieve their goals. Several years ago on social media, Rebecca responded to a post from someone who was moving to the area and looking for some general insight about the community. Despite this person openly stating they were happily working with an agent, Rebecca offered her help and guidance. “It’s in my nature to offer a helping hand whenever

someone needs it, even if I don’t get anything out of it,” she said. “Above any lead or sale, the reward to me is being able to extend my kindness to others and provide a solution.” Three years later, that same person found Rebecca and enlisted her as their agent to help sell and purchase a new home. As one of eight children, Rebecca’s childhood taught her how to navigate life amidst a large family. “When there are that many children in the house, you just learn to go with the flow,” she said with a smile. “I think my upbringing cultivated my easygoing personality, which has benefited me well in this industry.” Rebecca’s professional and laidback approach has garnered her numerous referrals, and as a result, it has created a surge in her business growth. “By far, referrals are the most rewarding aspect of what I do,” she said. “It shows that I am doing right by my clients and that they are happy with my services.” Rebecca’s biggest challenge as an agent is finding a good balance between work and her personal life. “I love what I do and I will answer my phone no 18 • May 2022

matter what time someone calls,” she said, “but when my daughter tells me I’m always on the phone, that gets to me.” In response, Rebecca hired Kelly Klopocinski to help her with all the day-to-day tasks. Kelly also has her real estate license, so she’s savvy in her business acumen and understands Rebecca’s big-picture objectives. “Honestly, I can handle my workload; I just want to be more hands-on with my kids. Having someone assist me with all the behind-the-scenes work so I can attend a soccer game is a smart investment for my personal life and, ultimately, my professional life, too.” Rebecca and her husband have been married for 10 years, and much of their time is devoted to their 8-year-old triplets — Taylor, Michael and Emma. They also have a 1-year-old mini Bernedoodle named Trip. As a family, they are very competitive and love to golf and swim as well as play tennis and pickleball. Rebecca is an avid reader and will listen or read twoto-three books a week. “I love every genre there is,” she said. “If someone recommends a book, I don’t even ask questions; I just download it and look forward to reading more books!” Along with her love for books, Rebecca is a perpetual student of real estate and finds a lesson in every transaction. “No deal is ever the same; the learning never stops,” she explained. “It’s important to ask questions and stay curious. Don’t just assume you know the answer. This is a good habit to get into, especially for new agents just coming into the industry. I am always asking multiple questions daily — it’s the only way to learn.” Rebecca shared her gratitude for how real estate helped her family and believes it will be something she does for as long as possible. “I feel like real estate is something you can do forever,” she said. “I have taken the class to get my license in Florida with hopes of one day being able to spend half my time here and half my time there; I already have my first deal in Florida!” Since launching her career four years ago, Rebecca said her favorite aspect of her work is the friends she has made along the way. “I am a very social person and my job description is literally to be social,” she said. “Whether it is my clients or co-workers, I have established some of my greatest friendships through this profession.” To Rebecca, success isn’t measured by how much she sells or how many awards she earns: It is measured by how happy she is doing her job. “I love going to work every day,” she shared. “When you choose a job you love, you never have to work a day in your life, which wholeheartedly applies to me.”

They have a son, Isaac, and together, they enjoy going out to restaurants, traveling or spending quality time at home. As a co-founder of Motus Real Estate with eXp Realty, she knows that life is too short to settle for anything less — no matter how it may look, the work involved or what it might take. With this mindset, Samantha is determined to help others create the life they want as well.

Although Samantha approaches life fearlessly, it wasn’t without trauma and hardship while she was growing up. When she was 12 years old, her mother died from lung cancer. Her father fell ill a few years later and also died. With both of Samantha’s parents gone, she and her brother moved into their aunt and uncle’s house — relocating from Midland to Kalkaska — when Samantha was 15 years old. “Losing my parents created a whole slew of emotional issues that I lugged around for a long time. It wasn’t until I was in my late 20s that I realized they also unlocked my kind of superpower,” Samantha explained. “Most people go through life terrified of the ‘worst,’ and I had been through the worst and survived it. Death is an unfortunate part of life, but the loss of my parents taught me that life is so short and that you really do need to chase the things you want.”

While Samantha officially started her real estate career in 2015 as an inside sales agent (ISA) for a top-producing team, she has had a connection to houses her entire life. From the time she was born, Samantha has received a Christmas ornament in the shape of a house every single year from her family. Her Christmas trees are always full of houses. Samantha worked as an ISA for two years before getting fired and then stepped out on her own to start a team. “Getting pregnant with my second child pushed me to pursue becoming an agent and starting our team,” she said. “I knew I wanted a career that would allow me to provide for my family and allow for flexibility.”

One of the first times Samantha used her superpower was when she flew out to Italy to tell her now-husband, Eddie, that she thought she was in love with him. They had been friends in college and continued to talk afterward. He went to Europe to play football, and they continued to communicate over the phone. “He came home before heading back to Europe, and I fell hard,” she admitted. “He went back to Italy, and I freaked out. I flew to Italy, ordered wine in Florence and told him that I thought we should give it a go. When the season ended, he came home, we bought a house, got married and started a family. I have a pretty good track record of getting the things I go after.” Samantha always had a propensity and love for sales. Before entering real estate, she was a yearbook sales representative for eight years. With a territory that included all of Southeast Michigan and a few schools in the thumb as well as in Grand Rapids, Samantha helped students, teachers, and parents create and print yearbooks. “I never thought of myself as a pushy salesperson; I just always tried to help people make educated decisions,” Samantha explained. “Sales at its core is really problem-solving, and I am good at problem-solving. When I realized that I could help people make really great financial decisions when buying or selling a home and that I would be good at it … It seemed like a no-brainer for me.” realproducersmag.com

Samantha is grateful that she has the flexibility to create the life she wants, which allows her to spend quality time with her family. Together, they love to travel, watch Eddie coach the Rochester Falcons high school football team, attend concerts, and bingewatch movies and TV shows. With her superpowers, Samantha is committed to instilling confidence in others so they can live their lives by design, too. “You can successfully balance being a top producer, team leader, mom and wife — it will just look differently from what other people are doing,” she said. “Going about business differently than others is OK: Your path doesn’t have to match everyone else’s in order for you to be successful. Stay true to what is most important to you and be willing to fight for it.”

Your passion for your work and for those you serve has been rewarding, but there are a seemingly endless flow of less enjoyable tasks that still need to be done. Whether it’s categorizing expenses or coordinating non-revenue-generating activities such as sign and lockbox installations, we all have tasks that distract us from where we shine most brightly. Thanks to the miracle of technology, it doesn’t have to be this way. Nowadays, it’s easier than ever to find virtual assistants (VA) who excel in performing the tasks that you like the least.

Determining what tasks your VA will perform will allow you to focus on activities that you both enjoy and excel at performing. control right now, the good news is we can make small lifestyle changes to diminish the adverse effects of stress on our bodies and minds. The first step? Move your body! Endorphin production /tension relief Physical activity pumps up the production of our brain's feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. Endorphins serve several valuable purposes for mental health. For example, these "natural painkillers" interact with neurons in our brains, blocking nerve cells, producing a sedative effect, and reducing our perception of pain. The opiate receptors

Though it may seem counterintuitive, research has proven that expending energy through regular exercise will pay off in the long run with increased energy levels. Most effective for overcoming fatigue is aerobic exercise, which increases oxygen in the blood and boosts energy levels. However, even a low-intensity workout – a short walk around the neighborhood, for example – can lessen fatigue and elevate mood and vigor.
