rior to his real estate career, Ali Fayz was a full-time college student and worked seasonally at a construction job. He earned a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management from Wayne State University, and even though he had several opportunities to pursue a career within that field, Ali was more excited to follow in his father’s footsteps instead. With 30 years of lucrative real estate success, Ali’s father was an inspiration to him. “As the operating broker at the Fayz Group within Real Estate One — Dearborn Heights, the idea of learning from and working with my father was very compelling to me,” Ali shared. “My father is someone who has independently amassed almost $1 billion in sales, which added to my enthusiasm and eagerness to learn everything I could within the real estate industry. To accomplish this feat in sales, he’s obviously doing something right.”
Ali was born in Dearborn Heights and raised by his parents, both of whom emigrated from Lebanon in the mid-80s as a result of the Lebanese Civil War. “Watching my father have successes in business inspired me to learn all I could about real estate and to follow in his path,” Ali said. “I wanted the same for myself.” With only three years under his belt, Ali has achieved a career volume totaling more than $10 million — $6 million of which he acquired last year — and is on pace to surpass $12 million this year. “Seeing a smile on my client’s face once we close on their home gives me a satisfaction that goes beyond any commission,” Ali said. “For some individuals, purchasing a home is the biggest accomplishment of their life, and I’m privileged to be a part of that — it inspires me to get up every day. I’m also motivated when there’s a hiccup in a transaction because overcoming those issues better prepares me for future occurrences.”
What Ali loves most about real estate is the ability to be involved in community development. “It is like I’m a kid in a candy store with so many flavors to choose from,” he said with a laugh. “Real estate is a business that allows individuals to discover what suits them best, and then expand on it. For me, it’s the joy I get to bring to my clients that’s most rewarding. I mean, you can earn a good living in any field, but wanting to serve others is the most gratifying.” Beyond having a passion for serving others, Ali is an avid student of the business and welcomes any opportunity to grow and learn. “There are so many advantages to having knowledge,” he said. “In real estate, there’s something to learn every day; honestly, it is never-ending.” Ali’s greatest teaching moments have come from his father: He mentored Ali and his younger brother Hussein — also known as Sam, who recently joined the family team — in education, business development, client relations and personal growth. “We are a family who works seamlessly together, and that makes us very unique,” Ali shared. “When a client is working with one of us, they are getting a family of agents who are there for them, offering the best client experience.” When Ali first began his career, his biggest challenge was getting over the fear of rejection. “In the beginning, I was afraid of rejection from everyone,” he said. “However, as any agent will tell you, rejection is a big part of this business, so I overcame this fear by facing it head-on.”

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio Ali fearlessly did daily cold calls and slowly became more comfortable with adverse responses typical to the real estate business. “While doing this, I faced an unreal amount of rejection — but that was fine because, after a while, I started to become numb to it. Rather, I saw it as a closer step to the ‘yes’ that I was looking for. I believe the best way to handle any issue, especially in real estate, is to deal with it up front and as soon as you can — it’s the smartest way to remain in this business for the long haul,” he said. To anyone looking to get into real estate, Ali suggests accepting failure and rejection as a means to make you stronger. “If you don’t fail and learn from the experience, then this industry will be a difficult road to travel,” he advised. “I view setbacks and obstacles as opportunities to be used to my advantage.” As one of five boys, Ali fondly remembers his mother ushering him and his siblings outdoors to play in the backyard. Today, Ali still

enjoys time outside with his brothers — Ahmed, Hassan, Hussein and Mehdi. They like to go four-wheeling, snowmobiling and hiking as a family. In addition to being focused and committed to his work, Ali also has a fun, creative side to his personality that’s highlighted through his social media interactions. He can be found on Instagram @ alifayzrealty. There, he provides real estate content and information such as weekly market updates and humorous skits. “This is a great platform where fun and creativity can be applied within the business,” he said. Whether it’s from his father, a broker or another agent, Ali wants to continue to learn within the business. “There’s not a day that goes by where I’m not learning something new,” Ali explained. “My goal is to be as accomplished and respected as my father has been, and follow in his footsteps.”

Karen Williams WHEN HARD WORK DOESN’T FEEL LIKE WORK

For over 17 years, Karen Williams has been making a living by doing what she loves: meeting new people and helping them through the homebuying and selling process. “I did not get into this business expecting to make a living, let alone a good living,” Karen said. “I love what I do, and I love all of the people and experiences that I get to have along the way. My job honestly doesn’t feel like work; it’s just like getting together with people I enjoy!” A real estate agent at Clients First, REALTORS® in Canton Township, Karen has a robust client base built on referrals and lifelong friendships. She has also earned numerous awards within her brokerage and has a career volume totaling more than $60 million. However, it wasn’t until a few years ago that Karen was able to turn her full attention to real estate. For years, Karen juggled her position as a real estate agent with her full-time focus as a mom and part-time work as a meat and seafood clerk at Kroger. “Growing up, I watched my mom raise four kids, finish college and become a registered nurse,” Karen recalled. “Through her, I’ve seen what hard work can accomplish, and I was inspired to do the same for myself.” As a young girl, Karen watched her parents complete projects around the house, and soon, her love for homeownership, building, remodeling and decorating developed. “My father built our three-bedroom lake home simply by reading books and putting my siblings and me to work,” Karen shared. “I’ve always had a passion for real estate 18 • January 2022

and often thought it would be the path I would take, but it wasn’t until a close friend and neighbor told me that she had just gotten her real estate license that I was encouraged to finally go for it.” Karen’s interest in meeting new people and helping them through the buying and selling process is what she finds most rewarding day to day. “Beyond that, I get to go into so many homes and see some pretty amazing things,” she said.
I ALSO HAVE SOME PRETTY A key factor to Karen’s success is her commitFANTASTIC CLIENTS WHO ment to education and to continuous learning. “It’s important to feel comfortable with knowing what MOTIVATE ME TO BE you’re doing, and education is the gateway to accomplishing that,” she explained. “When I first launched my MY BEST. career, I was consumed with acquiring as much knowledge as possible, and still now, I end up pursuing way more continuing education than is required because I love to be smart with my business and be fully equipped for my clients.” While Karen mainly operates her business independently, her real estate path has been defined by a supportive broker, office managers and staff. “You are only as good as those you surround yourself with,” she said. “I also have some pretty fantastic clients who motivate me to be my best. Through them, I am making a difference in people’s lives.” When she’s not working, Karen enjoys time with her husband, Chuck. They have been married for 35 years, and together, they have three grown children. Their oldest daughter, Julie, recently entered the real estate business. Their son, Daniel, is a clinical nurse specialist, and their youngest daughter, Jennifer, has her own cleaning business. Karen and Chuck have also been blessed with seven grandchildren ranging in ages from 2 to 23 years old — Joshua, Addison, Skyler, Michael, MJ, Ella and Sloane. “It’s pure delight when we can get together, often for dinner,” Karen said. realproducersmag.com

Karen’s advice to anyone considering a career in real estate is to love what you do and to never stop learning. “Learn all that you can from classes and from others around you,” she said. “Never think that you know it all, because this business is constantly changing and it’s important to stay current.” Karen also emphasized the importance of having solid relationships. “I consider myself pretty good at keeping in contact with past clients, family and friends,” she explained. “My best referrals and future business comes from having trusting relationships — I honestly care about my clients. For me, my work is definitely not about the money — that’s just added value. My success comes from helping my clients meet their goals. I have always told new agents, ‘if you love this business, you will be successful and good at it.’”

Love For A Child An Advocate for Fostering Opportunities Michigan ranks #3 in the U.S. for having the lowest quality foster care development for agencies and caseworkers. As a result, numerous children, youth and families within the foster care system are underfunded, under supported and without care. However, thanks to Joe and Michelle Savalle, founders and executive directors of Love For A Child — and advocates for foster care families through education and by being voices in the community — children are getting opportunities to be seen, nurtured and mentored. Joe and Michelle work across Michigan in direct partnership with agencies to provide cost-free opportunities for families in need, with the direct intention to help offset Michigan’s overwhelmed and rapidly growing foster care industry. Love For A Child finds the most overlooked demographic of children in Michigan who are statistically predicted to fail out of high school, become addicted to drugs or age out of care without purpose, and provides life-changing experiences through summer camps, year-round programming and overall support. “We work around the clock with our own developing partners to raise awareness and support for kids living within these circumstances,” Joe said. “Our challenge is that we picked a much overlooked industry; however, we couldn’t be more honored to make these children our focus, because if it was easy, there would be more programs like this out there.” Founded in 2012, Love For A Child is a faith-focused, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that focuses on impacting children who have experienced traumas such as abandonment, neglect and different forms of abuse. The organization has created and facilitates overnight camps and mentorship opportunities for children and youth, as well as tailored resources for foster families to realproducersmag.com
meet the specific needs within their care. “The program was designed to meet the child in their time of need through a one-week, overnight camp to gain trust and understanding,” Michelle explained. “Each designated camp throughout Michigan selects 40 foster children to attend camp, which are hosted by over 200 trauma-informed, trained volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time and compassion for children in care.” Every year, the camp rolls out the royal treatment and celebrates each child with activities such as swimming, rock climbing, arts and crafts, a birthday party, princess tea party or man walk, boat rides and bonfires. “We also teach them that no matter their background or challenge, God’s protection can travel with them wherever their story and journey takes them,” Joe shared. “People often see us as just a
Beyond the camp, each child enters a mentorship program where they are seen in monthly sessions by a committed Love For A Child mentor who serves and supports them. “Whether it’s a holiday, birthday, graduation or just a sunny day, we are there for each child to provide leadership, guidance and a forever friendship,” Joe said. “Once a child enters a program, our goal is to walk them through adolescence and high school, and then into college and adulthood; we are there for the entire process.” Many children in foster care will move homes throughout their journey, and it is the organization’s hope to be a constant throughout the changes. The purpose within the program is to provide overlooked children a place where kids can be themselves. “We want to be an example to kids by showing them that, through God’s love, hurt can be healed,” Michelle explained. “By giving them hope, the loss can be filled with actions of authentic love.”

The program has many success stories, but the one that stands out the most for Joe and Michelle is when a 10-year-old boy named Timmy came to camp 11 years ago. “This kid was athletic, sensitive and obedient,” they recalled. “We could not fathom how this child was labeled as ‘damaged’ and ‘living with rage.’ After Timmy attended the camp, we made it our mission to mentor and visit him on a monthly basis. We soon discovered that Timmy was left alone to fend for himself for nine weeks — eating nothing but dry cereal, cake and scraps, which eventually led to him eating the grass on the front lawn due to starvation.” Joe continued, “At this point, our monthly visits were designed to assist the child and their family with any food needs, clothing assistance and benevolence aid they needed while also mentoring and creating positive memories for the child. The goal is to give a childhood back from where it was stolen.” Timmy went on to graduate from high school and received a full-ride college scholarship. He is now 22 years old, a high school wrestling coach and one of the head mentors at Love For A Child. He is a living example of the program’s ultimate goals: 24 • January 2022
mentor children and create leaders, who can then serve as mentors and examples for the program. “We believe the best impact we can give to these children’s lives is a sense of purpose and direction,” Michelle said. At the age of 36, Joe has spent more than half of his life — 18 years’ worth of experience — being involved with foster care advocacy, outreach programs and camps. With no signs of slowing down, he’s currently managing two offices in Michigan with his wife, and is opening a third location in 2022. “Our success is not based on how much fundraising dollars we raise or how many media articles are written; rather, it’s the moment a child who is living in trauma and abuse no longer lives in fear and begins to walk in freedom,” he said. Love For A Child welcomes volunteers and enjoys seeing professionals find creative ways to financially support the organization. Recently, former Detroit Tigers player Andy Dirks of eXp Realty partnered with Love For A Child in 2021 by giving 5% of his sales to the group. “It’s a great partnership when a real estate agent lets their client know that the sale or purchase of their home provided an opportunity to a foster child,” Joe shared.
