editor’s note I spent a lot of time pondering what to share with you this month. On one hand, I wanted to embrace thankfulness and all the warm and fuzzy feelings of Thanksgiving, but, on the other hand, I kept thinking, 2020 has been such a rough year — I am thankful it’s almost over.

Because I know that we don’t need to be reminded of how the quarantine uprooted us from life as we once knew it, I decided to shift my mindset, get creative and count 10 blessings that, in some way, we can all be thankful for this year.
Transportation — Let’s be grateful for
all the commutes we avoided, the gas money we saved and the extra lease miles we won’t be paying for this year. Technology — Seriously, what would
Shelter — There’s no place like home, especially
when it functions as an office, school, gym, place of worship, etc. Plus, being quarantined prompted us to deep clean our dishwashers, reorganize our sock drawers and begrudgingly tackle the to-do list tasks that had been taunting us all year. Food — Yeah, the grocery store shelves were a
little bare at times and people rarely followed the one-way aisle directives, but, thanks to curbside pick-up and grocery delivery services, we didn’t go hungry.
we have done this year without Zoom, podcasts, Houseparty, Facetime, Facebook, Instagram, Google Hangouts, Amazon, distance learning, watch parties, telehealth, video games, 5G, virtual tours, etc.? Technology made this year livable and enabled us to work and socialize remotely. Social distancing was tough, but, thankfully, we were never 6 feet away from our phones, computers and tablets. Real Producers — Be thankful for our
Family — You know how we’re always saying
that we want to spend more time with family? Well, congratulations! You probably logged more family hours this year than any other year to date, so be thankful for that. Or, depending on the quality of that family time, be thankful for every minute of alone time. Clothing — Let’s be grateful for all the use we got
out of our robes and comfy clothes. We also saved so much time not having to make morning — or more like late-afternoon — wardrobe decisions: For many of us, it was a simple act of changing from nighttime pajamas to daytime pajamas. Basic Household Amenities — I’m talking about
toilet paper, Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer here ... and the attitude of gratitude that swept over you when you were able to get your hands on some. Hobbies — Sure, early on in the quarantine, we
spent countless hours binging Netflix, but then we dusted off our guitars, whipped up sourdough starters, painted self-portraits, mixed up amazing craft cocktails, knitted fingerless gloves and mastered advanced yoga poses. Much obliged, Pinterest and YouTube. Neighbors — Devoid of regular human contact,
we developed a new appreciation for fence chats, small talk with the neighborhood weatherman, screaming children and barking dogs — really any sign of human life. realproducersmag.com

During the quarantine, there was no “business as usual,” but we can all be grateful for how we adapted and found creative solutions to the many personal and professional challenges we encountered. We may be eager to see 2020 come to a close, but let’s give thanks for how awesome the Wayne County real estate community is and how each issue of Real Producers draws us together, even in physically-distant times. In 1996, Jeff graduated from Novi High School as well as from The Oakland Fire Academy and was intent on becoming a full-time firefighter. After serving as an auxiliary firefighter and EMT in Novi and Walled Lake for several years and not landing a full-time position on the force, Jeff decided to shift gears and find another professional path where he could help people. “Real estate appealed to me because I liked the idea that every day was new and different,” he said. “I wanted to be my own boss in an industry where the sky was the limit and where I could be as successful and as committed as I wanted to be.”

Jeff enjoys pool time and traveling with his family — Disney World is a family favorite; they’ve been there over a dozen times. Jeff and Joy’s daughters play volleyball, swimming, basketball, tennis and golf. All of these activities keep the Duneskes pretty busy. In his free time, Jeff loves to ski, golf, read — some of his favorite books include “The Secret,” “The

Jeni Stewart is living proof that it’s never too late to rebuild your career and your life. After spending 18 years at Electro-Matic in Farmington Hills where she started as a customer service representative and worked her way up to production floor supervisor, Jeni found herself barely getting by and felt an overwhelming need to generate more income for her family. “I knew what I was capable of and wanted more for myself, so at the beginning of 2016, I began working in real estate part-time while also working at my day job,” Jeni said. “I started slow and ended up getting more and more business when I switched brokerages to Dwellings — I eventually had to make a decision because I couldn’t continue doing both, while also being a mom. I resigned from my day job of 18 years and haven’t looked back!” Now engrossed in her fifth year in real estate, Jeni, associate broker at Dwellings by Rudy & Hall, has mobilized her love for helping others in a lucrative business that allows her to support herself and her 9-year-old daughter Lola. “I was able to show her it’s never too late to change your life,” she said. realproducersmag.com
Jeni’s drive for constant improvement and strong work ethic have led to a career volume of $13 million, $7.5 million of which she generated in 2019, but she admits that her success did not happen overnight. “It’s been stressful and taxing — and most days completely terrifying — yet, if you remain calm and focused and determined, it will happen,” she said. Jeni encourages up-and-coming agents to remain persistent and to listen to the advice of successful agents. “Their stories of situations that you will run into one day and knowledge about how to navigate the oddest of circumstances always come in handy,” Jeni said. Jeni also advises real estate novices to learn how to farm their desired neighborhood — and to get creative about it. “People get tired of fliers and postcards — have some fun with it and give them something to make you stand out,” she said. “And always always always take downtime — even just 20 minutes — to recharge your batteries. You can say no, you can prioritize yourself and your needs, and you can still be amazing at this business while doing so.” Right now, Jeni is focused on becoming a name that people recognize and trust, and she is passionate Wayne County Real Producers • 23
about staying on top of her workload, increasing her business and expanding her knowledge every day. “The most rewarding part of my business is every time I get a referral and hear what a past client has said about me — knowing not only did I help them but that they want me to help others as well,” she said. “I love what I do, and I love getting to constantly meet new people, help them, and hopefully be referred to their friends and family in the future. I plan quite simply to consistently grow my business and my empire for years to come.” Jeni’s real estate career has not been without challenges, the greatest being time management. “We only have 24 hours in a day, and recently separating from my husband and finalizing our divorce means I am both working 60 to 80 hours a week and also being a single mom,” she said. “There’s a balance in there that I am still learning, but so far, it seems to be working.” When Jeni isn’t working, she spends her time watching horror or comedy movies, reading a variety of books, playing board games, and going shopping and out to lunch with her daughter Lola. Jeni says that one of her favorite “girl dates” was when she took Lola and her friend in a limo to the Taylor Swift concert. “The looks on their faces were priceless!” Jeni said. Jeni has also participated multiple times in the Komen 3-Day®, a 60-mile walk, to raise cancer awareness and to honor her father who is a cancer survivor and her friend who died of cancer at the age of 38. Jeni also supports other charities, including Toys for Tots and Adopt a Family, and every year around Christmas time, Jeni and Lola, who saves up some of her own money for the cause, donate to No Kid Hungry.

Jeni wants to be remembered for being kind, honest and compassionate. “I may be one of the more sensitive people in this industry because, while the money may be nice, the people — all of them — always matter the most; and I want to help everyone realize the dream of owning their own homes,” she said.
“I’m not perfect — I’m still learning every day and have my moments of complete stress and frustration, but I know I’m determined and that my heart is in this for all of the right reasons,” Jeni said. “I’m showing my daughter it’s okay to make mistakes, learn from them and improve because of them ... and to do it all with heart — always — because that’s what’s most important.”

Building mutual respect is a giant part of my business and tends to lead to relationships that continue after the deal has closed. HOW AND WHY DID YOU PURSUE A CAREER IN THIS PARTICULAR INDUSTRY?
When I was growing up, my mom owned and operated her own real estate brokerage. She was closely involved with the mortgage side of the business as well, so I was always around the industry as a child. Fast forward to my post-military career: I took a job in Ann Arbor in the human services field, and one day a childhood friend who was on the operations side of the mortgage industry invited me to lunch. After our lunch, I decided to take a dive into mortgages. I strategically started as a processor so that I could learn the business, as well as the ins and out of loans. After processing for over half a year, I became licensed and have been originating ever since.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST FULFILLING ABOUT YOUR WORK?
The personal bond I am able to build with my clients and seeing them accomplish their goal of closing on their new home or refinancing are absolutely the best parts of my job. As cliché as it sounds, the people who I am able to work for and with really drive me to continue to get better and motivate me to help as many people as possible. WHEN YOU AREN’T WORKING, WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND YOUR TIME?
I have a beautiful young daughter who I love spending as much time with as possible. She’s currently three years old, so watching her navigate the world and learn is one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve ever done. Besides being with my daughter, I enjoy personal fitness and pretty much anything outdoors. Some of my favorites are fishing, hiking, camping and recreational sports like golf and softball and baseball.

I love seeing the successful transactions between our agents and their clients. In the office, I appreciate being a valuable member of a long-standing company that has an excellent reputation and such a bright future. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Keeping track of all the moving parts — knowing that I am doing everything possible to keep the office running.
What is one thing about you that others might find surprising or interesting?
I have four kids: one who graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in May, a senior at Michigan State University, a senior at Grosse Pointe South High School and a freshman at Grosse Pointe South High School. I met my husband when I was 18 — we’ve been married for almost 23 years — best decision I have ever made!

Honestly, Jim Saros Real Estate Services is such a team-driven environment, so I feel a little self-conscious about being picked out of the group. Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself, about your job or about your relationship with the person who nominated you?
Jimmy Saros is an incredible leader — he’s young, energetic and on the cutting edge of all technology. He has so much intrinsic knowledge in the real estate industry — Jimmy knows everything there is to know about Detroit. In two short years, I feel like I have been adopted by the Saros family and become a true member of their team. I am forever grateful they took a chance on me! I am the current president of the Grosse Pointe Gators Swim Club. My husband swam competitively throughout college, and all four of my kids swim competitively. The swim community has become like my second family.

After many months of quarantine, event cancellations and working from home, Real Producers of Wayne County’s September Social at Spoon’s Place in Canton was a welcome opportunity to safely socialize and network with the best in the industry. Temperature checks, waivers and an overabundance of hand sanitizer didn’t put a damper on the fun for the 50 or so professionals who came to spend time with colleagues and experience a bit of normalcy after the wild ride 2020 has been thus far.
