REALTOR® and Associate Broker Kim Nagy-Street has 27 years of real estate experience. However, even if she didn’t know it at the time, her ties to the industry — and love for homes — span back to her childhood, and all the time she spent observing, learning and helping as her parents, Gerald and Loretta Nagy, bought, sold, renovated and rented homes.

“In 1994, when I was working as a cocktail waitress at the latest chic restaurant, my father convinced me that I knew more about homes than anything else and encouraged me to pursue a career in real estate,” Kim said. “He gave me the confidence and push I needed — while I was making great money, I was intrigued by the limitless potential of real estate and knew I wanted something long-term.”

When Kim entered the industry at the age of 22, she became frustrated by how difficult it was to create opportunities with buyers and sellers. “Who wants to trust the largest purchase or sale of their life with a new young agent?” she said. Despite her initial challenges, Kim pressed on and remained determined to succeed. She worked hard to generate opportunities and earn clients’ trust … and, slowly but surely, the sales started to roll in.

Soon after, Kim’s career took off. In 1997, Kim reached $5 million in sales. By 2010, she had excelled to $15 million, then, a few years later, to $30 million. In 2017, she hit $40 million, and she’s been producing at that level ever since, resulting in a career volume of $600 million. Kim has been with KW Domain for six years, and her office ranks #1 in MLS for volume.

More important than her sales are the relationships Kim builds and the referrals she and her team earn every day. Kim feels most rewarded when she hands keys to a buyer or when she helps a seller move on to their next chapter in life. “My clients are, by far, the favorite part of real estate — most become friends for life,” she said. “Nothing is more exciting than to see my clients’ lives grow and change throughout the years.”

As owner and team leader of the Kim Nagy Group, Kim is most passionate about helping others reach their fullest potential and overcome limiting beliefs. A few years ago, Kim’s sister, Nicole Nagy, left her successful nursing career to join the Kim Nagy Group at KW Domain and follow in her older sister’s footsteps. Kim’s “small and mighty team” of six — Lead Buyer’s Agent Nicole; Buyer’s Agents Stacy Walden Eberhardt, Caitlin Winston and Kathryn Paulon; Director of Sales Stacy Hauck-Moore; and Social Media Specialist Anna Leonard — are united in their dedication to their clients and to one another. “We are truly a group that wants everyone to win, and we always build each other up,” Kim said. The Kim Nagy Group is on track to sell over $50 million this year and is always hiring real estate professionals based on their cultural fit.

Kim grew up in Dearborn, where her life was fairly normal until she lost her mother to cancer. This tragedy thrust Kim — who was only 16 — into immediate adulthood, leaving her to raise and care for her 6-year-old sister and support her father as well. “I had no choice — I was doing the cooking, the laundry … but most of all, I was there taking care of my baby sister, best friend and now an agent on my team.”

Kim has been married to her husband, Doug Street, for over 25 years. Doug recently retired from 30+ years as co-owner of an automotive design and engineering company. Like Kim, Doug — who has been a licensed builder since the early ‘90s — has a passion for designing, building and renovating homes. He is now focused on a second career in residential investment properties where he works closely with Kim. “A top agent and a hands-on builder make for a good team,” Doug said.

Kim and Doug have renovated many homes over the years, and they recently moved into a new construction home that they designed and built. In addition, Doug and Kim own several rental properties and will be breaking ground early next year on a 10-unit apartment building near downtown Royal Oak.

Their hard work and success have afforded them the opportunity to enjoy their love of domestic and international travel, including recent trips to Eastern Europe, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia. They also enjoy golfing, cooking and entertaining at their new home. “We really enjoy our Royal Oak neighborhood — our great neighbors have kept us on the same street for 27 years now,” Kim said.

Kim reads a lot of self-help books, but her favorite genre is mystery, especially anything by Patricia Cornwell. Through her real estate business, as well as in her personal life, Kim also actively supports many local charities.

Kim is very grateful for the guidance and support she has received from family, friends and the many real estate professionals she has worked alongside throughout her career, including Larry Campbell, her first broker at Century 21. “I always admired Larry’s positive drive and success,” she said.

Because Kim knows that building a client base — or any kind of relationship — requires daily work and attention, she drives her business with consistency. More importantly, she has built — and sustained — a fulfilling real estate career by remaining focused on what matters the most. “Always do the right thing, even when no one is looking — it doesn’t pay to always win at the cost of others,” she said. “Put your clients’ interests first, and treat them like family. ... that’s how success happens.
