s team leader of The Tina Peterson Team (TPT) with Real Estate One and president of Blue Star Service Dogs — a nonprofit program that provides healing to military veterans diagnosed with PTSD through service dogs — Tina Peterson has been making a difference in the real estate industry and in her community.
Tina and her team’s top-producing real estate work has been awarded by Detroit’s local news station, WDIV Local 4, as a winner of Vote 4 The Best for four consecutive years in addition to being recognized in Hour Detroit magazine as a Top 5% real estate agent. As a real estate professional, dog lover and proud supporter of the military, Tina found a creative way to blend her passions together. When she interviewed Blue Star Service Dogs, Tina discovered that there was a need to build a safety fence for dog training. Due to the surrounding wetlands, the cost to build the fence was going to be more than $10,000 — an amount well beyond the budget of the group, and possibly forcing

them to sell the building. “I knew they wanted to stay at their location, so I proposed to do a fundraiser,” Tina recalled. “The director happily agreed, and immediately, my team and I went into high gear!” For the next six weeks, Tina and her team coordinated a fundraiser with matching contributions from Real Estate One and raised $17,000. “As a team, we contributed a portion of every sale to the nonprofit organization,” Tina said proudly. “It was a collaborative effort within our community that raised money, awareness and public service.” Tina began her real estate career at a time when most people were running away from the industry. It was 2009, and the market was suffering. “Regardless of what was going on in the world, the timing was right for me,” Tina shared. “I had raised my four beautiful children and decided I was ready to move onto the next chapter. Real estate appealed to me because I could be my own boss, work as much or as little as I wanted, and I got to work directly with people, which has always been a passion of mine.”

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio From her very first buyer, Tina knew a career in real estate was the perfect choice. “Seeing the reactions on people’s faces when they get the keys to their new home is so fulfilling,” she said. “I knew that this was what I was going to be doing for a very long time.” Tina has an impressive career volume totaling more than $155 million — $36 million of which she did in 2021. Her road to success took a positive turn when she began to focus on changing the public’s perception of real estate agents. “It will make you sad to see what comes up when you search the internet with the words ‘real estate agents are,’” Tina said. “This finding inspired me to develop a ‘people over paycheck’ mentality, which I strongly communicate with my team. I honestly feel that when you genuinely care about people, your business will thrive.”
thinking and a desire for ongoing training, education and mentorship. “We strive to be as knowledgeable as possible so our clients have the best representation,” she said. “The best thing about TPT is that we are like a family: We spend time together, support one another, and share ideas, experiences and knowledge.” Recently, Tina promoted one of her agents, Kimberly Koss, to partner. Kim brings her own strengths to the partnership that will further benefit the other agents as well as the client experience. Together, they will be a dynamic duo. Tina said that much of her success is a result of the support she received from her family, which includes her husband, Eugene, and her four grown children — Jessica, Nick, Kevin and Matt; three stepsons — Eugene, Ben and George; and three grandkids

— Cole, Livy and Charlie. “Personally, my biggest accomplishment is my family,” she said. “I also have two dogs, two cats, three chickens and a 110-gallon saltwater fish tank.” Beyond her real estate and volunteer work, Tina enjoys time on her boat on Lake Michigan. Tina advised new agents to find a team that offers guidance, support and mentorship. “This industry can be very complex, competitive and sometimes just plain overwhelming,” she explained. “Therefore, it is important to align yourself with a seasoned professional to help uncover your strengths and to help you discover how you can add value to your business and, ultimately, your clients.” As the leader of her group, Tina is especially great at setting realistic expectations for herself and for her team. She is authentic in her guidance and leads by example, offering her clients a genuine, honest and heartfelt experience. “Homeownership is the American dream,” she said. “A home purchase is usually the most valuable asset in a person’s life, so it’s important to treat each transaction as if it was your own.”
The most rewarding aspect to Tina’s job has been the people she has met who have become lifelong friends. “My colleagues, peers in the business and industry partners have played a crucial role in my professional success and happiness,” she shared. “It’s also an honor to be a part of my clients’ journey when they buy their first home, retire or fulfill a lifetime real estate dream.” When Tina was 34 year old, her mother passed away at age 54. We all work our individual businesses, but when there is anyone who needs help, we share and are always there for each other,” Victoria said. “I’m hoping to grow the Lake Orion office quite large and be the go-to agency for your real estate needs in Lake Orion.”
“I knew I wanted to help people and provide another level of customer service; I just wasn’t sure how I was going to do that with two smaller children as well,” Victoria explained. “When I got diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis, I knew a different path had to be taken. I lost a lot of myself. I couldn’t work out, I wasn’t active, I couldn’t stand through a concert. I was in pain as I tried to make it through each day. I had the most trouble with my hands, and I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do that I would enjoy that also wouldn’t kill my hands every day — real estate was that solution.”
Victoria has become a strong leader in the business because of how she shows compassion and understanding toward others. These qualities, however, did not come without a cost. When Victoria was 17 years old, she lost her brother to a rare genetic disorder — a disorder that Victoria also carries. “He died suddenly, within four days. It truly changed my view on life and family forever,” she said. While Victoria says the rare genetic disorder is harder on males, she has not gone unscathed. In fact, at 26 years old, Victoria was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis, which is ultimately what led her to real estate. She was working part time as a server at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar — after she had already traveled all over the U.S. with the North American International Auto Show as a model for Chevrolet — and was looking for something more. realproducersmag.com

Being kind and compassionate can go a long way with people.”
Victoria joined RE/MAX Eclipse in October of 2015 and hasn’t looked back. One of her biggest motivators in growing her business has been her family. She and her husband, Benjamin, a Marine Corps veteran, have two sons — Joey, 12, and Johnny, 8.

The fact that they are happy and healthy is truly a blessing and such a miracle to me. How can I not work hard for them?” she said. Victoria and her family are very outdoorsy. Built on his passion for helping as many people as possible while also providing superior customer service, Joe Samona has achieved real estate business success at Keller Williams Domain. Joe’s desire to do the same played a major role in his decision to forego his original plan to practice law after he scored exceptionally well on the LSAT. “While I was influenced by my father, my family always encouraged me to be whoever I wanted to become,” he said. Since Joe hit his stride in real estate success, he hasn’t lost sight of his values by keeping his faith at the center of his work. “My trust in God has defined my path in life,” he shared. “I believe everything works out as it is intended to in life. It’s hard not to get discouraged, especially when things happen beyond my control, but I learned early on to stay the course and to never give up.”
Joe’s client base quickly began to build, and so did his confidence. As he was climbing the ladder, Joe was setting and accomplishing goals and continuously searching for bigger challenges. His biggest hurdle was getting to and crossing the $5-million mark. “When I joined KW Domain, I asked the amazing team to help me reach my goal,” he recalled. “I believe in the power of mentorship, and I am happy to say, I surpassed my goal, and I am now on track to reach $12 million for the year and projected to reach north of $20 million in 2022!” As a son of Iraqi immigrants, Joe watched his parents build a life in the U.S. based on family, community and support from one another. His father has been a real estate agent for 30 years and impressed upon Joe the importance of working hard and helping others. “When my parents came to America in 1976, they were not wealthy people,” he shared, “but they surrounded themselves with a great support system, which helped to create a solid foundation to raise a family as well as to create opportunities to give back to others.” Growing up, Joe admired how his father’s real estate work helped people in his community. While Joe’s savvy business acumen and sterling negotiation skills have increased his sales numbers, it is his ability to treat every client equally that has set him apart from others. “I treat every deal the same,” he said. “Never underestimate the power or value of any one transaction. I once sold a $40,000 investment property on a land contract that led to an almost $2 million referral, which I closed on. When you give the same amount of respect to every client, great things will happen.” The highest priority in Joe’s life is his family. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his parents, family and friends. Joe also likes traveling, sharing meals with family and friends, and
supporting charitable organizations within the community. “As a real estate agent, the greatest feeling comes when I call a client and tell them to get ready for closing,” Joe said. “Getting to the finish line is my favorite part of what I do. It’s a truly satisfying experience that keeps me smiling from ear to ear.” The key to Joe’s success is his drive and determination. “When business is booming, don’t slow down,” he shared. “When business seems like it’s slow and you don’t know what to do, never give up, because at the end of the day — although this is your livelihood — you are helping people make huge financial decisions.” Joe’s ability to keep a client-first mentality in every transaction has made him an agent on the rise and certainly one to watch. 42 • April 2022

HADDOX Building a Trusted Business and a Bright Future As the youngest producer at Anthony Djon Luxury Real Estate, Harley Haddox is making a big impact. He closed his first year in the business with a solid clientele and a career volume of nearly $10 million, an accomplishment that exceeded many seasoned professionals. Harley is motivated by the happiness and joy that comes throughout the sales process, specifically on closing day. “Hearing the enthusiasm in my client’s voice when I tell them an offer was accepted is so rewarding,” he said. “It’s a mutual feeling of gratitude that’s very inspiring to me.”

Harley acquired his real estate license in February of 2021 and jumped into the industry full of ambition. “I became a real estate agent because I love the whole aspect of being my own boss,” he explained. “Family is very important to me, and therefore, I intentionally chose a career that would allow me to structure my life so that I could spend as much time with my loved ones, along with an uncapped income.” Beyond the actual sale, Harley enjoys helping people. “My very first deal was assisting a young couple who were first-time homebuyers,” he recalled. “I cannot put into words the wholesome feeling I had in my heart during that transaction. Guiding that family into their first home made me realize how much I Iove my work and the wonderful feeling I get when I’m helping others achieve their dreams.” Harley’s biggest influences are his parents. Growing up, his family lived a modest lifestyle and demonstrated that no matter what path they took in life, the most important thing to remember was showing up and putting in the effort. “Definitely seeing my mother working over 50 hours a week to take care of the family shaped my life,” Harley said. “My father had

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio At the young age of 20, Harley’s biggest challenge in his profession is earning the trust of his clients. “When people hear that I’m only 20 years old — with some having kids who are older than me — there’s an immediate opinion formed,” he shared. “Often, people find it hard to trust someone with a $500,000 transaction when I don’t even own a home, but I always assure them that I am a professional with a proven track record of success and will lead them in the right direction — 100% of the time.”
Regardless of his age, Harley has proven that no matter how old or young a person is, there is opportunity for everyone to be successful in this industry. “Never sell yourself short because of age — old or young,” he said. “As long as your client is comfortable and there’s an established trust, the sky’s the limit.”
The struggle is what shapes people into great real estate agents and prepares them for the worst.
Harley works alongside five teammates who help him with brainstorms and assists him with any client transactions. “We are a tight-knit group that shares a common goal, which is to keep our clients happy and to find success,” he said. “We keep each other motivated with a healthy level of competition among one another. There is zero tension between us, and we are always finding ways to celebrate each other’s success.” Harley’s biggest advice for up-and-coming real estate professionals is to never give up. “There will be good months and months when it feels like nothing can go right,” he said. “The struggle is what shapes people into great real estate agents and prepares them for the worst.” When Harley’s not working, he enjoys being with friends and family. In particular, he likes to spend time with his girlfriend, Mariah, go grocery shopping with his mother, Delilah, and work on cars with his father, Greg.

Other than his family, Michael Cosman is passionate about his faith and about real estate. After he spent 21 years working as a cash management coordinator for a small private equity investment company, Michael decided to chase his dreams and fulfill a lifelong goal of professional happiness. His motivation came from a book and a hospital conversation with his mother who was battling pancreatic cancer. “At the time, I wasn’t sure which direction I was headed — full-time ministry or real estate,” Michael said. “But I had exhausted my accounting career and it was time for me to listen to my heart.” With a background in accounting and finance, Michael thought he would have a long-lasting career in the financial industry. For years, he assisted high-net-worth clients achieve financial success, resulting in years of residual income. However, as time went on, Michael began to realize he, too, wanted that same financial gain for himself. His interest was further piqued after he read the book, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, which showcased opportunities for achieving residual income — real estate investing being an ideal industry. “The book just blew me away and made perfect sense,” Michael recalled. “It was at this time I realized the power of real estate investing and proceeded to dive into real estate classes and investor-networking meetings, and shortly thereafter, obtained my license.” At the same time Michael was feeling inspired to change the direction of his career, he was also heavily involved in his church as a volunteer. He also became Michigan’s only Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert after he saw the need to help families with the sale of their home during an extremely stressful chapter in their lives. His passions to be of service to others and to follow his faith have been the cornerstones of his real estate success. “I absolutely love helping others and making a positive impact with what is typically the greatest investment in a person’s life. The greatest reward for me is guiding individuals through a stress-free experience and letting them know I care more about them than necessarily the paycheck,” Michael said. Michael continues to combine his two passions by ministering in unique ways. Recently, he helped a woman sell the home of her father who was struggling with Parkinson’s disease. Because the daughter lived over an hour away, Michael took the burden off the family by meeting with the father at his assisted living facility to answer questions, guide him through the sales process and sign paperwork. “It gave me a great sense of satisfaction knowing I was helping someone who was putting their faith and trust in me,” he said. “It is a humbling and rewarding experience when I can combine my real estate knowledge with my desire to serve others.” Michael has been happily married for 15 years to his best friend, Patty, and they have two wonderful children and five grandchildren. Michael enjoys playing chess, golfing, bowling, traveling, and entertaining his family and friends at home. He also dedicates his time to aiding organizations that need support, including Compassion International, Integrity International, Love For A Child and various other groups that help those who are neglected, abused or forgotten. Michael’s responsiveness, honesty, integrity and genuine care have resulted in lifelong friendships from most of his clients. “When I’m providing individuals with exceptional service and consistent communication, the experience is more than a transaction: It’s a life-changing experience,” he shared. “My goal is to have everyone who works with me remember their experience as unparalleled for years to come, long after the closing.”

BOOST Your Financial Literacy By Shauna Osborne
April is Financial Literacy Month, a national campaign to raise awareness about financial literacy and promote financial education. In this month, organizations nationwide carry out a variety of events, learning opportunities, and initiatives to improve financial literacy, especially among our nation’s youth. Financial ignorance can lead to a variety of negative future consequences, including irresponsible spending, dangerous debt levels, and high amounts of stress, especially for financially vulnerable populations. Education is key; making informed financial decisions is more important than ever.
Read financial books and newspapers (and listen to podcasts). Dive into newspapers and magazines (think the financial section of local / regional newspapers as well as The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Fortune, Forbes, and Money) as well as books geared toward money matters. Also, there’s a podcast for every subject nowadays, and the arena of finance is no exception. Just want the basics? Try Planet Money or So Money. What about info on investing? You want Money for the Rest of Us or The Disciplined Investor. Woman-focused financial info? Look for Women & Money or The Fairer Cents. Utilize social media and your network. Make your social-media time more industrious by following financial experts on Twitter or LinkedIn or joining a personal finance / support Facebook group. Also, don’t overlook the knowledge you have close at hand through your immediate network; utilize the financial expertise (and lessons learned) of your circle of influence – successful friends, family members, colleagues, even your boss. Ask the experts. Who better to turn to with your burning financial questions than a professional? They can listen and assess your current situation and how you are handling credit and debt; uncover solutions, whether about day-to-day money situations or more complex, long-term scenarios; make suggestions for how to pay off, consolidate, and manage finances; and help you plan for future financial needs and stay on track going forward. A study undertaken by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority in 2019 showed that rates of financial literacy among Americans have taken a nosedive since the Great Recession, yet, for many, financial situations are more complicated than ever, between retirement accounts, investments, student loans, medical debt, credit cards, pandemic stimulus payments, and mortgages / rent and other household expenses. It’s crucial to keep our financial literacy knowledge base growing as aspects of our health, career, family, and living situation change over the years. Knowledge is power!
