PREFACE The publication of the records of the Hampshire and Berkshire Missions now in the diocese of Portsmouth has beenmade possible solely because His Lordship the Bishop of the Diocese (The Right Rev. John Henry King) has not only kindly lent me all his MSS . containing the fruits of over forty years researches, but has also continuously assisted me in transcribing and editing the Registers and documents . The Historical Introductions are based mainly upon His Lordship's MSS . and are very largely his work .
