destruction was the Diary or at leasta portion of it which from that time remained in the Custody of the Rev. John Daniel, the last President of the House . Shortly before his death Mr Daniel entrusted the Bookto the Rev. Francis Tuite, the titular president of the Ancient Paris Seminary; and Mr. Tuite when was preparing to publish my Edition of Dodd'sChurchHistory , confided or gave it to me. This was about the year 1835 or 1836:-since which time the Diary has been in my posses-

TheVolume in which the Entries Relating to the Maires occurs, opens with the appointment of Dr. Robert Witham to the Presidentshipin 1715 and is continued almost uninterruptedly in Witham's handwriting

from that time until shortly before his death in 1738. The entries concerning the Maires , are written by him . know not of any other Circumstances that I can mention, relative to this matter Perhaps howeverMr. Flemingwould like to see the Book; and when come to town, can shew it to him . if soAdded I I , in pencil] . Now the small exception to the continuity of [ Witham's handwriting through the Vol . occurs in 1728 from June 19th to Sept. 9th (fol. 149-152) when Witham was absent in England. The entries during that period are in Bish. Challoner's handwriting.
