If space becomes available, you will receive an email stating availability in the program, program details and a link to sign up for the available spot. Please note, the link is only available for 24 hours.

A Letter From Indra Winquest, Director of Parks & Recreation Greetings – I am humbled and excited to step into the role of Director of Parks & Recreation for the Tahoe City Public Utility District. I am excited to work with an outstanding staff of professionals and I am looking forward to getting to know the community and interacting with our visitors. Valli Murnane made a wonderful impact on TCPUD’s Parks and Recreation services and our community over her seven years as the Director of Parks and Recreation and we wish her all the best in her new adventures. My 20 years of experience working in the field of Recreation in the Tahoe Basin including management of parks and recreation, beaches, golf, ski, agency collaboration and a variety of other community services has prepared me well to step into this exciting role. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to work in the field of recreation and community services in this magical environment that provides us a world class recreation playground.

With spring here and summer just around the corner, our Parks & Recreation Team is excited to offer a diverse level of programming, activities and special events to keep you busy and moving. It is our goal to provide fun, active and educational programs and services in a safe and positive environment through professionalism, teamwork and communication.

Whether it’s enjoying a concert at the beach, playing softball with your friends or hiking and biking along the extensive trail system, there is plenty to keep you active. For the youth in the community, we offer diverse program and activity opportunities including camp Skylandia, a variety of youth sports and specialty camps and programs, swim lessons, golf clinics, junior sailing programs and more.

North Lake Tahoe Recreation & Aquatic Center The North Tahoe and Tahoe City Public Utility Districts recently completed voter polling to determine the level of support in the community to fund the construction and operation of a North Lake Tahoe Recreation & Aquatic Center (Center). The polling results, conducted by professionals at Team CivX and True North, showed that between 53-59% of the registered voters in the region would support a tax measure to fund the construction, operation, and maintenance of a Center. While these results fell short of the 67% super majority currently needed to pass a ballot measure, the Board of Directors from both Districts unanimously voted to continue the planning for a Center at the Firestone Property on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

North Lake Tahoe RECREATION & AQUATIC CENTER

In the months ahead, the Districts will be working toward securing important landuse agreements to keep the project moving forward. Additionally, the Districts are monitoring legislation that could lower the voter threshold from the current 67% super majority to 55% for approval of tax measures to build local public infrastructure projects, a key component to the future viability of this project.

Stay tuned for the next joint meeting in late 2024 or early 2025 to review the status of the key items above and revisit the viability of this effort. If the project appears to have a viable path to the ballot in 2026 or later, active community support and advocacy will be an essential component to the success of this effort.

TCPUD Multi-Use Trail System Reconstruction Project TCPUD owns and operates the paved trail network along the west shore, Truckee River, and north shore to Dollar Point. Much of this 23mile-long trail network is now over 20 years old, with some portions originally constructed over 40 years ago. The TCPUD, as part of its ongoing capital improvement program, has been planning for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of this popular recreation amenity.

Approximately 10 miles is planned for reconstruction over the next five to seven years and will occur in multiple phases, with a current estimated cost of over $12 million.

Early in 2024, TCPUD was awarded a $1.6 million grant through the North Tahoe Community Alliance’s sponsorship grant program, approved by the Placer County Board of Supervisors. This important grant funding, paired with TCPUD property tax funding approved by the TCPUD Board of Directors, will support the reconstruction of just over two miles of the North Shore Trail Segment from Tahoe City to Dollar Point. The total investment in the reconstruction of this trail segment is anticipated to be $2.2 million, and will correct cracking, root intrusion, visibility challenges, ADA compliance, and erosion deficiencies. Work will begin on this trail segment in 2024. Trail users should expect closures and detours to occur throughout the summer.

Tahoe Cedars and Madden Creek Water System Reconstruction Projects TCPUD has been progressing the design, permitting, and development of construction plans for the complete reconstruction of both the Tahoe Cedars and Madden Creek Water Systems, located on the west shore in Tahoma and Homewood, respectively. The complete reconstruction of both water systems was recommended through master planning, and will address serious deficiencies, including actively failing water mains and insufficient fire suppression capacity.

Completely rebuilding these water systems is a significant undertaking for TCPUD and together when completed, will be the most complex and costly TCPUD water system reconstruction projects ever completed. The total cost is currently estimated at $59 million, and the reconstruction of each system will take place over multiple years. Funding sources for these projects will include water rate revenue, property tax revenue, and Infrastructure Improvement Charge revenue (a charge applied to the customers located within both water system service areas). Additionally, the TCPUD is actively seeking grant funding to help offset the costs of these projects. Visit tcpud.org/cip to find out more about these water system reconstruction projects.

Smart Meter Replacement Project

Sewer Pump Station Storage Improvements

Consistent with an ongoing pursuit of financial stewardship and environmental protection, in 2024, TCPUD will finish the final phase of the Smart Meter Replacement Project. Once completed, approximately 3,500 residential water meters will have been upgraded with new ‘smart’ water meter technology. The benefits of these new smart meters, which use Beacon Cellular Technology, include real time access to water use (consumption), early leak notifications, and data collection via cellular transmission. Water use data is transmitted via cellular connection four times a day, which reduces staff time previously needed to manually collect data. The system also dramatically increases leak response time by using the built-in Leak Alert Notification system. These notifications are automatically received by TCPUD; however, customers can also receive their own alerts by email or text by using the EyeOnWater app.

Customers can also use the app to track water usage and maximize their water use efficiency. We encourage customers to take advantage of this app and its features.

Wastewater collection systems are generally out of sight, out of mind, and TCPUD keeps it that way by proactively investing in improvements that keep sewer infrastructure functioning safely and efficiently. TCPUD’s sewer system is made up of nearly 113 miles of gravity sewer lines, together with 24 strategically located pump stations that move our community’s wastewater along the west shores and north shores to the point where it flows, via gravity to the regional treatment plant in Truckee. One of the critical operational components of a sewer pump station is storage. Maintaining storage capacity at pump stations is necessary to prevent overflow in the event of a shutdown or system failure.

The 3-year investment in this project is approximately $1.6 million and highlights TCPUD’s commitment to Making Water Conservation a Way of Life.

TCPUD has recently completed storage improvements at the North Lane and Lonely Gulch sewer pump stations and will be investing in improvements to the Coast Guard pump station in 2024. This sewer pump station is located adjacent to the U.S. Coast Guard facility next to the Lake Forest Boat Ramp. The Coast Guard pump station improvements are estimated to cost $1.2 million. Once all sewer pump station storage improvements are made, the total investment will be over $3.7 million.

It's time for campfire sing-alongs, games, arts and crafts, fun dressup events, exciting field trips, and a whole lot more at Camp Sky Lil' Pines and Camp Skylandia!

Important 2024 Camp Information Camp Skylandia Summer Program 2024 Dates are June 17 through August 16.

You must register your child in the group according to the grade they will enter in the 2024-25 school year. A birth certificate may be required to verify age of child.

Payment & Registration must be completed online before attending Camp Skylandia.

Parents must complete an updated Emergency Contact Form at the beginning of each session.

To alleviate a massive collection in our Lost & Found items, it is extremely helpful to write your camper's name on all the gear they bring to camp.

Chess Wizards

Broadway Bootcamp

6 - 12 Years Chess Wizards has been teaching the game of chess since 2002. Join us this summer for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You'll improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain! Our camps include fun team chess games (like Corner Chess), recess time (of course), snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Each camper receives a Tshirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. We include all the materials necessary for your child to participate, but full day kids should bring a lunch. Unleash your brain power and spend part of your vacation with Chess Wizards!

5 - 14 Years Dive into acting, singing, and dancing while fostering confidence and creativity. Broadway Bootcamp is designed to teach the basics of performance: acting, music and movement while exploring hidden talents, and expanding natural gifts and building confidence. Students will be immersed in activities that support their whole self as a performer. Each day begins with physical and vocal warm-ups before playing a plethora of acting and improv games. Early in the week we determine which shows strike up the group's interest and as a group, decide which scenes, songs, and dances to learn from those productions or films. Throughout the week, as we rehearse, we'll work on characterization, how to sing songs successfully, and some basic musical theater blocking and choreography.

Makers Camp at the Gatekeeper’s Museum 9 - 11 Years Join us for our very first maker’s camp at the Gatekeeper's Museum!

Hosted by the museum director and local educators, this camp offers youth ages 9-11 years old the opportunity to make a variety of unique art projects while learning about art history, native American culture and the environment. The camp ends with a project celebration displayed in a special exhibition created and installed by campers. Projects include: acrylic painting, terrarium art, pottery design, map creations and model making.

Junior Mountain Riders

7 - 11 Years Open to bikers who are motivated to ride for about 1.5 hours.

Riders are grouped by ability and experience so that each ride is appropriately challenging and fun, and the rides generally cover a distance of 4-9 miles. There will be three, 4-week sessions running in June, July, and August. Registration opens mid-April.

The primary aim is to teach people the skills to prevent them from becoming victims of physical abuse, and to provide them with techniques to safely evade harm. The techniques and skills we teach also can improve balance and coordination, and can increase self-confidence. The course is taught by two local Aikido instructors: Douglas Dale, and Zach Hymanson. Douglas is a 6th degree black belt, with more than 40 years of experience in Aikido. Zach is a 3rd degree black belt, with more than 12 years of experience in Aikido.

The Tahoe City Golf Course is a family friendly 2700 yard 9 hole par 33 golf course that includes 1 par 5, 4 par 4's, and 4 par 3's.

Amenities include a full service restaurant and bar at Café Zenon, netted practice/warm up facility, golf carts, rentals, lessons, tournaments, special events, and a friendly welcoming that makes you feel part of the local community. Our projected opening day is Friday, May 3, 2024, conditions permitting.

The TCPUD is excited to offer the Lake Forest Boat Ramp for launching in Lake Tahoe. The facility is located 1.5 miles east of Tahoe City off Highway 28 on Lake Forest Road and offers limited day use parking and restrooms. You can also enjoy a picnic area, playground, and small beach area at the adjacent Tahoe State Recreation Area (Pomin Park).

The boat ramp can be very busy at times during the summer boating season. Prepare before you launch and practice good etiquette to ensure a quick and efficient launch. Always recreate responsibly to protect yourself, others, and the outdoors.

Ever wonder what it's like to sleep under the stars? Look no further, Lake Forest Campground is your special spot in North Lake Tahoe. Campsites are available on a first-come first-serve basis and located just a few blocks away from the Lake Forest Beach. Feel free to visit Pomin Park during your stay for some baseball or soccer.

The TCPUD offers lakefront storage for kayak and SUP on a first-come, first-served basis at Commons Beach, Skylandia Park, and Lake Forest Beach. Space is limited. Renters must supply their own lock and cable. Online registration only.

MULTI-USE TRAILS

MULTI-USE TRAIL SYSTEM The perfect way to tour the North and West Shore of Lake Tahoe is using our 23-mile multi-use trail network. Along the way you may find bicyclists, joggers, strollers, and even anglers enjoying the views.

Parking for use of the trails is available at 64-Acres Park. Motor vehicles are strictly prohibited on the trails except for authorized maintenance. Please watch for maintenance workers and equipment. We request all trail users to be tolerant and respectful of everyone's mutual right to use these trails.

Rules of the Trail: Please help to increase everyone's enjoyment of the trails by observing the Rules of the Trail: Keep right, pass on left when safe.

Blaze a trail of kindness.

Alert when passing.

Use safe speeds.

Always use a light at night.

Look and listen, be respectful.

Speed limit is 15 mph.

Class 1 and 2 E-bikes permitted.

Bikes yield to pedestrians.

Keep dogs on a short leash.

Yield to oncoming traffic.
