The Tahoe City Public Utility District Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce our transition to a new and improved recreation registration software with CivicRec Recreation Software Solutions. Our new CivicRec registration platform allows customers greater access to our recreation activities, leagues, Winter Sports Park reservations, and facility rentals. This transition represents our commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience and providing our community with efficient and user-friendly registration services.
Key features and benefits of the new recreation registration software include:

Water Infrastructure for Fire Suppression
The Tahoe Water for Fire Suppression Partnership (Partnership) is a collaborative effort of Lake Tahoe Basin water agencies, including the TCPUD, that was formed following the 2007 Angora Fire. This devastating incident highlighted the significant shortcomings of water distribution systems to adequately supply water for firefighting throughout Lake Tahoe communities. The Partnership's primary objective is to speed up the installation of resilient water infrastructure that is crucial to improve the fire suppression capacity needed to protect communities from wildfires.
Although the Partnership has increased investments in water infrastructure, a large portion of the Basin is still served by aged and undersized water systems that do not meet modern firefighting standards. Projects TCPUD is implementing to improve fire suppression in our communities include the Dardanelles Avenue Water Line Replacement on the north shore, the West Lake Tahoe Regional Water Treatment Plant, and the Meeks Bay Pressure Reducing Valve. Partnership efforts represent important advocacy work to inform representatives of the vital role water infrastructure plays in protecting communities from wildfire. These efforts include:
AUGUST
APRIL
Traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with federal delegation, executive members of the Forest Service and the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), and policy advisors.
Furthered education on water infrastructure for fire suppression at the 27th Annual Lake Tahoe Summit and hosted a pre-Summit Tour for legislative staff.
Hosted Congressman Kevin Kiley on a Tahoe tour, in part to highlight the funding challenges with water infrastructure for fire suppression projects. JULY

Protecting Communities from Wildfire
With wildfires increasing in frequency and intensity, protecting our communities has become more important than ever Recently, the TCPUD received an award from the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) for ongoing initiative and action to promote awareness of water infrastructure's important role in fire suppression During the CSDA's Annual Conference held in Monterey, CA, August 28 - 31, the 2023 CSDA Exceptional Outreach and Advocacy Award (Large District Category) was awarded to the TCPUD. This award recognizes the measurable success achieved by TCPUD and their partners, North Tahoe Public Utility District (NTPUD) and the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD, all members of the Tahoe Water for Fire Suppression Partnership (Partnership)

North Lake Tahoe Recreation & Aquatic Center Feasibility
A joint facility for the communities of North Lake Tahoe
In 2019, the North Tahoe and Tahoe City Public Utility Districts partnered to launch a community-wide assessment of the needs and desires for future active recreation opportunities in North Lake Tahoe (Needs Assessment).
Through the first two assessment phases, consultants working with the Districts gathered input from the community. They analyzed the results, which revealed preliminary support for additional active recreation facilities and programming across the Districts’ shared boundary. Specifically, the community showed interest in a shared North Lake Tahoe Recreation & Aquatic Center
In February 2023, both District Boards gave the green light for Phase III of the Needs Assessment This Phase will determine the best financing option to fund a new facility, and conduct community polling to evaluate the level of community support for a potential tax measure This effort will provide data to inform a strategy that could fund a project of this size and scope
Multi-Use Trail Reconstruction Project
TCPUD has a multi-year project planned to reconstruct sections of its 23-mile multi-use trail network that sees over 200,000 users year-round A large portion of the trail network is over 20 years old, with some segments constructed over 40 years ago Some of the segments have been improved, including the Truckee River Trail, however, other segments still need replacement and rehabilitation
In July, the TCPUD Board of Directors received a presentation on a recently completed pavement condition and hazard assessment report on 17 2 miles of the trail network The report recommends full reconstruction or extensive repair on virtually all the miles assessed The total estimated cost of the project is $12 million It will take about seven years to complete
In 2024, trail reconstruction will begin on the 2 3-mile Hurricane Bay - Kaspian segment (west shore), built in 1976 and in very poor condition In 2025, two segments on the north shore are planned for reconstruction These segments were built between 1973 and 1998 and total 2 2 miles
