Leadership Mainland kicks off with island retreat

The 2025 Leadership Mainland class began its annual session Feb. 20-21 at the beautiful Courtyard Marriott on Galveston Island, just in time to kick off Mardi Gras!

The program, which has had many community leaders and champions from all walks of life and professions, has been a staple of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce for 25-plus years. Leadership Mainland is an opportunity to experience leadership development, community awareness, and personal growth. It is committed to educating, training, and motivating existing and emerging local leaders to build more effective skills for the future benefit of the greater Texas City-La Marque area and beyond.

This year’s class is comprised of 18 professionals from companies and employers such as the city of La Marque, Coastal Community Federal Credit Union, UTMB Health, Texas City Terminal Railway, F.W. Walton Inc., Valero Energy, Tolunay-Wong Engineers, College of the Mainland, and

the chamber.

The overnight retreat, which was the group’s first session, featured Kent Hutchison of Cameron LNG, who has more than 37 years of guiding and leading others to help them improve their personal leadership development for those who may just be starting their professional careers to those who may need a touch-up or two to help them climb higher on their career path.

Not a stranger to the program, Hutchison used his charming and informative approach to explaining what it takes to become a leader and how to utilize the skills that are a part of your professional DNA. He also interjected interactive activities with a touch of humor to keep the class fully engaged for the two days the group was together.

“Getting to know everyone on a personal level is what I

liked

most.”

The retreat began at Mario’s Seawall Italian Restaurant, where the group ate lunch together before being taken to the hotel to start the first and second sessions. Afterward, the group checked into their rooms with their roommates and then dressed up in Mardi Gras garb to enjoy a nice dinner provided by the hotel. On the second day, breakfast was served and Hutchison concluded his presentation, which captivated everyone by what was being shared.

“Getting to know everyone on a personal level is what I liked most,” said one of the attendees. “It feels easy talking to everyone and I’m sure that will make the rest of our ses-

sions enjoyable and effective.”

Most attendees agreed that the program is great and informative and the opportunity to work with people of diverse backgrounds is a plus, according to a survey sent out.

The class will meet once a month through November, culminating with a graduation ceremony for all to attend on Nov. 21 at a location to be determined.

Chamber to host Industrial Trade Show to boost local business

The Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the annual Industrial Trade Show on April 22, a premier event designed to stimulate local business growth and industry networking.

The trade show provides an opportunity for vendors to showcase their goods and services by setting up informative display booths and distributing key business information to potential buyers and industry leaders.

The event attracts a diverse range of attendees, including major corporations from the Galveston County area. Businesses looking to expand their market presence and establish strong professional relationships can leverage the trade show to connect with influential decision-makers in various industrial sectors.

A key highlight of this year’s event is the newly revamped

State of Industry Mixer: Cocktails and Conversations.

This segment offers a more dynamic approach to industry discussions, allowing participants to engage directly with plant managers and industry professionals in a casual yet informative setting. The mixer also will feature a dedicated booth where attendees can meet with plant managers and staff, gaining valuable insights into industry trends and opportunities.

The Industrial Trade Show is an essential platform for fostering economic growth and industry collaboration within the region. The Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce encourages businesses and professionals to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to network, learn, and grow.

Women in Business kick off ‘Year of Influence’

The power of networking, connecting, engaging, building friendships, and understanding everyone has a voice. On Jan. 30, the Texas CityLa Marque Chamber of Commerce Women in Business held its 2025 Kickoff Luncheon at the Chamber Community Room.

— Renee Ethridge, Brandy Jo Smith, Amy Reid, Doreen Hughes, Anita Jones, April Ciccarello, and Catherine Boudin — each shared the podium

to share highlights of 2025, the “Year of Influence.”

Women are pivotal in the business world, wielding significant influence over employers, employees, colleagues, friends, families, and their children. Their impact is profound, shaping and redefining the future of generations. The “Year of Influence” will focus

on and celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of women in business and their leadership roles in the workplace, companies, communities, and local nonprofits.

The vision and goals of the “Year of Influence” is to amplify the voices of women in business, celebrate their tremendous achievements across all sectors and industries, support their journey through mentorship and networking, advocate on their behalf and have meaningful and collaborative conversations to create an inclusive and equitable business environment where everyone can contribute, thrive, and make an impact.
