Greetings from the President— The Journey Begins Anew!! DR. PAM ELROD HUFFMAN Welcome to the 64th Annual TCDA Convention! And the 1st Annual NEW TCDA Convention! This past year, the Board has been sharing news about our new TCDA Convention model—a model created from the input we’ve been receiving from you for years. So here we are, embarking on a new TCDA journey! It’s a journey that honors past traditions but also offers some exciting new opportunities. As in past years, you’ll have the chance to attend some fantastic workshops and reading sessions—but this year, the reading sessions will feature not only Tried and Proven repertoire curated by some of the finest choral conductors in the country, but also new music reading sessions sponsored by the publishers themselves. Our favorite traditions are still included—incredible headliners (Kent Hatteburg, Alec Schumacker, and Tom Shelton), the Worship Service, beautiful concerts (the Dallas Chamber Choir, The CenturyMen, and the TCDA Junior High/ Middle School All-State Choir), the Sing-In, and of course, the Soiree. As always, we have included dedicated time in the schedule for you to visit our vendors, so I encourage you to spend time exploring the amazing exhibit hall that we’re privileged to have year after year. Without our vendors, we wouldn’t have a Convention. Their continued commitment to our organization not only provides us all with countless resources, it also helps to offset the price tag of this extraordinary event. After a wonderful summer of rest, rejuvenation, and relaxation, I know you are ready for new ideas, fresh inspiration, and the invaluable affirmation that comes from spending time with your colleagues—your choir “family.” I think the next few days will provide that in so many ways! Before you go, if you haven’t already done so, please make sure you take a moment and cast your votes for our newest TCDA officers. As a member of TCDA, it is your right, privilege, and responsibility. Every vote and every voice matters! Thank you for including TCDA in your summer schedule. Let’s start this new adventure!

Each participant will receive a packet of six songs appropriate for developing voices in school, community and church settings. Do you wonder how to use the soprano recorder in the classroom as an extension of the singing voice to reinforce the Kodály melodic sequence? Want to learn how to give your students a solid foundation of recorder instruction by introducing notes one at a time, in sequence, and in a musical context? In these lessons, recorder playing is an integral part of the music classroom experience (using the “sound before symbol” approach), rather than an isolated unit. The finished products are suitable for performing on a program. A FREE Yamaha recorder will be available for every participant!

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK! Thank you for attending the 2019 TCDA Convention. We hope you enjoyed it. This year we included not only our tradition of fantastic workshops, reading sessions, and performances, but also new changes implemented due to member feedback. These changes were new music reading sessions sponsored by the Publishers (a big Thank You to them!); an Elementary Immersion Day; additional High School Student Leadership Days offered throughout Texas; and a 2020 Winter Conference in January in Houston. We appreciate your feedback as we begin planning next year’s convention, so please take a few minutes to complete the 2019 Convention Survey. Scan this QR Code with your phone to get started! And best wishes for an energizing and invigorating new school year! www.tcda.net
