Student Housing Update
by Avery Unruh
In the summer of 2019, Tabor formed a Housing Task Force to begin brainstorming the refurbishing and replacing of current student housing. With the movement of this task force, the Tabor Board of Directors approved fundraising for new student housing with hopes to start building projects in the near future. Tabor was ready to start aggressively fundraising, although the COVID-19 pandemic struck, leaving behind every sight and sound of new housing.
“We would have launched the funding efforts sooner, but COVID disrupted that plan,” said Vice President Rusty Allen. After becoming acquainted with our current circumstances, new plans have been put in place to shift the focus of fundraising back toward student housing. “This is our top fundraising priority,” said President Jules Glanzer, referring to the future of student housing.
Plans are being reviewed for the project. “We are currently gearing back up and will present a revised plan to the board of directors on Feb. 19,” said Allen. This presentation includes a timeline provided by Tom Shaw, vice president of advancement, that places the start of construction during the summer or fall of 2022. “Our ability to fundraise has been greatly hampered by the pandemic,” said Michael James, vice president of business and finance, “especially since many of our most capable donors are of an age that puts them in the high-risk category.” Tabor is working to overcome this obstacle, especially by calling upon the grace of God. “Please join us in prayer for God to move in the hearts of donors,” said Allen, with hopes to see movement toward growth on Tabor’s campus.
