LOWER SHORE WORKFORCE ALLIANCE Making more of an impact in 2024.
The Lower Shore Workforce Alliance is proud to unveil soon an innovative addition to its arsenal of resources aimed at empowering the local community and fostering economic growth. In an effort to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance has introduced a Virtual Reality Room equipped with cutting edge VR headsets. This exciting initiative aims to revolutionize the way local businesses conduct employee training and provide dislocated workers with immersive experiences to explore potential career paths. The first of the year, LSWA opened the Birth Certificate Assistance Program which has demonstrated a promising start, effectively aiding seven Maryland residents in obtaining their birth certificates for employment.
This initiative signifies a crucial step towards enhancing the employability of Maryland residents and increasing their access to gainful employment opportunities. Notably, the program's efforts have resulted in a positive outcome, which is a testament to its effectiveness. The increase in service indicates the value of proactive measures aimed at facilitating documents essential for securing employment. Currently, we have assisted 4 customers needing birth certificates for employment. In addition, we are ready to help young adults who may need assistance as well. Please stay tuned for more updates and resources that can assist the community provided by LSWA.

The Future Of Work: Key Emerging Workplace Rachel Wells Trends To Watch For 2024 Contributor Each year since the pandemic, the world of work has significantly transformed, from remote work, to TikTok Gen Z trends of "lazy girl jobs," and "quietquitting," to global trends that have triggered mass coverage across news outlets and social media such as "The Great Resignation," and "The Great Rebalancing." As we near the close of this year, what is the

Gen Z is naturally more tech-savvy than their older counterparts, due to coming of age at a time when social media platforms and smartphones were gaining rapid adoption, and appear to have a more open mind to the use of AI tools, social media, and other technologies to advance their careers and forge a name for themselves in business. Gen Z are not generally adverse to risk but tend to favor trends such as the gig economy, side hustles, and holding multiple jobs at a time, in an effort to evade poverty, financial instability, and the increased cost of living due to inflation. Their slightly older counterparts, Millennials, and older generations such as Gen X and Baby Boomers, need to prepare for this sudden wave of Gen Z talent, and welcome their fresh innovative skill sets, while training and developing them to be more effective with their soft skills gap in the workforce. Gen Z can also proactively seek to polish their soft skills through being more self-aware, attending training to upskill and develop their leadership capabilities, and seeking the mentorship of older generations. Generative AI It's become virtually impossible not to notice the effects of AI, in particular, Generative AI, in the world of work. According to EY's recently released "Work Reimagined Survey," GenAI is "expected to have an outsized impact on the labor market, on career and learning pathways, and on the realities of work." "With AI and machine learning specialist job categories expected to balloon in the next five years, employees and employers are also already building expectations and investments around the technology," the report continued. {Click here to read more}

The first two responses are automated. They tell you that you’re being connected with a Crisis Counselor and invite you to share a bit more. The Crisis Counselor is a trained volunteer, not a professional. They can provide support, but not medical advice.

FoodWorks Culinary Job Training Program What is the FoodWorks Culinary Training Program? The FoodWorks program offers a fresh start to low-income individuals with 12 weeks of intense culinary training. FoodWorks students learn basic cooking skills while converting fresh produce and other perishable foods into healthy meals for distribution to those in need.
Located at Maryland Food Bank headquarters, the program training takes place in classrooms and in the Charles T. Bauer Community Kitchen, a state-of-the-art culinary facility opened in 2010. Over the course of 12 weeks, Maryland Food Bank’s Executive Chef guides students through a curriculum that includes fundamental culinary techniques, nutrition, menu planning, and job-seeking skills.

Lower Shore American Job Center Mobile Workforce Services Unit The AJC Mobile Unit is a program that brings employment search and career services to communities using modern technology. It's equipped with seven computers that have cellular Internet access and a generator, making it a selfcontained resource for job seekers.

few specialized training programs tailored to meet the evolving needs of local industries. Notably, the department has developed a comprehensive training program, recognizing our community's growing demand for skilled forklift operators. The forklift program has gained remarkable attention and interest, with a waiting list that currently boasts an impressive 50 customers eagerly waiting to enroll. This response reflects the impact of the Business Department's initiatives on addressing the specific workforce needs. The success of the forklift training program serves as a testament to the department's dedication to identifying and addressing the skills gap within our local labor force. By developing targeted training programs that align with the demands of employers, the Business Services Department is actively strengthening the foundation of our community workforce, paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity.
