A NOTE TO INSTRUCTORS This document, provides answers to questions in the Homework and Classroom Assignment Manual. Most questions in Assignments 1 through 9 (related to Part I of the textbook—Principles of Construction) have definitive answers. However, this is not true with assignments related to Part II of the text (Assignments 10 through 30), particularly those that require the drawing of construction details. Although most details provided in the Solution Manual are based on accepted principles and practices, some variation is possible due to regional differences or the aesthetic goals. The instructor may wish to address this issue during the course of class and review and (or) alter the response provided as necessary. Different line and fill colors have been used in details to improve their readability. For the same reason, different colors have been used in the text part of the solutions. As stated in the introduction to the Assignment Manual, answers to many questions cannot be obtained directly from the textbook. The students should be reminded that developing appropriate solutions to many of the questions requires the ability to think creatively and look beyond rote answers. In some situations, references to later chapters of the text and (or) resources outside the textbook are also required. The Instructor may provide the students with these references, or require that they find them on their own.
