Drug-testing kits free for parents Parents who are concerned their children may be using drugs can get their hands on free drug-testing kits through the “Test, Don’t Guess” initiative, run by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookhaven Town Youth Bureau. The program, according to a press release from the town, “provides an important tool to engage in the critical conversations about drug use.” In addition to the drug-testing kits, parents who visit the youth bureau will

be offered information about resources for professional help and treatment. “No one should feel that they are alone when struggling with a child who abuses drugs,” Supervisor Ed Romaine said. “Help is only a phone call away and I urge parents to take action now. Give the Youth Bureau a call, pick up a kit and do whatever you can to save your child’s life.” For more information or to pick up a kit, call the bureau at 631-451-8011.

North Country Patriots push against drug epidemic This Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., information related to the ongoing, deadly heroin epidemic on Long Island will be distributed by the North Country Patriots. Literature covering facts on heroin and prescription opioids, advice for parents, prescription safety and what students should know will be made available along the north eastern corner of Route 25A and North Country Road in Setauket for as long as the materials last. Interested drivers or passersby

can receive the packet simply by asking. The Patriots encourage any motorists wishing to speak in more detail regarding this deadly crisis to safely park their cars and talk. There will be no judgments made. “What we’ve found over the last few years is that if you don’t know someone who’s life has been impacted by this scourge, you haven’t asked enough people,” said one spokesman with the group. “Too many kids are needlessly, tragically dying. A better-informed public can make a life-saving difference.”

Turn in dangerous or illegal animals at amnesty event Residents can turn in any protected, endangered or threatened animals that require special New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permits without fear of penalties or questioning on Saturday, Oct. 10. Brookhaven Town’s second Amnesty Day at the Holtsville Ecology Center will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and people owning dangerous or illegals animals will be able to hand them over to trained professionals from the town, the DEC, the wildlife service and the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The agencies will relocate animals turned in that cannot be kept at the ecology center. “All too often people will harbor unlicensed or illegal pets without realizing the dangers they pose or the amount of care they require,” Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro said in a press release. “This often leads to these animals being dumped by someone who once

had it as a pet. An example of this is the 25-pound alligator snapping turtle that was recently found in the Nissequogue River in Smithtown.” That turtle, a freshwater reptile that officials said had enough power to bite off a human finger or toe, was discovered in the stream opposite the Smithtown Bull on Route 25 in Smithtown in late August. It is not indigenous to Long Island — it is usually found in the region from eastern Texas to the Florida panhandle. At the Amnesty Day on Oct. 10, residents can “do the right thing for the safety of their neighbors and for the wellbeing of these animals,” Losquadro said. Last year’s town event saw 25 animals turned in at the ecology center, including a western diamondback rattlesnake, a green anaconda, four boa constrictors, an American alligator and two marmosets. It was the most successful amnesty event the SPCA has ever had. “The purpose of this effort is to get these illegally possessed animals into a controlled environment where they can be cared for properly,” SPCA Chief Roy Gross said. “People who are in possession of these animals unlawfully can turn them in to us without fear of prosecution. No one will be asked to give their name.” The ecology center is located at 249 Buckley Road in Holtsville. North Shore native ready to ‘ruin’ truTV By Giselle Barkley

Adam Conover never used to ruin anything. More than one year later, that is exactly what Conover will do every Tuesday during “Adam Ruins Everything,” a new show on truTV. Conover, a Smithtown native who grew up on the North Shore, hosts the comedy show, which blends comedy, history and science to entertain and enlighten viewers about common misconceptions in society. The show touches upon various topics including giving, security, crime scene investigations, childhood, sex and more. His first episode covers giving and touches upon the history of engagement rings, why shoe companies that give away free shoes are harmful and the reality of food pantries. But for Conover, creating a show wasn’t something he just set out to do. Everything simply fell into place. Once Conover reached middle school and high school, he became more interested in drama and theater. His mother, Stony Brook native Margaret Conover, said she remembers her son being a handful as a child, saying that it was hard to keep him focused on a task. But his Shoreham-Wading River High School’s theater program was one of the few things that grabbed and main-

tained his attention. Conover got his first acting break after a teacher selected him for one of the star roles in the school’s production of “The Clumsy Custard Horror Show.” Conover said his overall experience in his high school’s theater program made an impression on him as it gave him a glimpse into working in a performing arts career. “I think the biggest thing I took out of it was that ... it was like a real theater program. We’re not just kids putting on a show,” Conover said in a phone interview. “We are putting on a real show with a real audience that has expectations and the show has to be good.” Adam Conover’s father, David Conover of Stony Brook, said he remembers his son being in nearly all school plays when he attended Shoreham-Wading River’s Prodell Middle School and the ShorehamWading River High School. “He became very passionate about certain things. Teachers that he loved in high school, he would do all the work for,” David Conover said in a phone interview. “Drama was one of those things he was focused on doing really, really well.” Margaret Conover also added that the high school’s program helped her son as “the creativity that was fostered and allowed in [high school] really gave him a wake up.” Comedy was also pushed to the fore-

front after Adam Conover begged his parents to upgrade their television subscription to include Comedy Central when he was in middle school. Until then, his mother said she wasn’t aware of his interest in comedy. As a child, Adam Conover always loved learning. He remembered watching science programs like “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” among other programs that fostered his love for acquiring information. Science played a big role in his childhood as his mother and father work in science-based fields and have their Ph.D.s in botany and marine biology, re-

spectively. His younger sister Emily also has her Ph.D. in nuclear physics. A career in comedy was never the first thing that came to mind for his family. Regardless, his parents were supportive of his dreams even after he quit a web development job to pursue a full-time career in comedy in 2006. Conover left his job and rejoined friends from his Bard College days — the same group he was with in the early 2000s when Olde English, their sketch comedy, was established. Suffolk County police and Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information about a man who stole a bottle of alcohol from Hamlet Wines & Liquors in Setauket. Police said the man stole a nearly $1,700 bottle of Chateau Petrus wine on Sept. 12 around 5:35 p.m. Cops said the man took the bottle of wine and hide it in his pants before he fled the store on foot. A 20-year-old man from Port Jefferson Station was arrested at his home on Concord Circle for grand larceny. Police arrested the man on Sept. 20 at 11:00 a.m. and said the man stole more than $50,000 in jewelry and cash on the evening of Aug. 15.

A 24-year-old girl from Miller Place was arrested at her home on Sept. 19 at 9:15 a.m. and charged her with operating a vehicle without permission. Police said the woman was operating a 2015 Rav4 without permission. Police didn’t disclose who the car belonged to.

Around 9:10 a.m. on Sept. 19, at the 6th Precinct, police arrested a 43-yearold man from Lake Ronkonkoma and charged him with petit larceny. but supportive nonetheless. “We were concerned about whether or not that was a good way of making a living, but we didn’t attempt to dissuade him from doing so,” his father said. “We always believed that people should follow their passion and if you do oftentimes the rest of everything else works out.” According to the father, Adam Conover’s work with his sketch comedy group helped him land a job as a staff writer and cast member of CollegeHumor Originals in 2012. And Jon Cohen, one of the “Adam Ruins Everything” producers, said the show was initially released as a web series and received positive feedback from viewers, which encouraged Cohen, Conover and Sam Reich, another executive producer, to produce and pitch the show to television networks. TruTV picked up the 12 half-hour episodes of the show last October. Cohen said he realized they would work to produce the show after Conover informed

him that the coconut water Cohen was drinking was not very healthy. “He’s obviously playing a heightened version of himself,” Cohen said in a phone interview about Conover. “He truly believes and is passionate about all of the information he has and he just wants to share it with people, not because he wants to be a know-it-all but just because he wants people to know the truth and that’s what’s going to be great about this show.” “Adam Ruins Everything” will debut on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 10 p.m. on truTV. While his family never thought Conover would work in the entertainment industry, Margaret, David and Emily Conover agreed that they are proud of Adam and are certainly “not surprised” by his career choice. “Making this show [was] my life goal, and true mission for me,” Adam Conover said. “This is exactly the kind of comedy I want to do, and is saying things I want to say. I suppose that if I had to think ahead, my goal would be to say those things even more effectively in season two, if we’re lucky enough to get one.”

Rep. Zeldin visits Three Village to talk numbers By Giselle Barkley

He’s new to D.C. but not to some of the North Shore’s most pressing issues. Representative Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) addressed people from Three Village businesses and organizations early Wednesday morning, Sept. 16, in his Meet Congressman Zeldin breakfast in the Gillespie meeting room in The Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages. The meeting gave Zeldin the opportunity to discuss his past several months in office after he was sworn in back in January and to address issues he said he wants to tackle during his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Some of the more pressing issues, he said, included affordability, supporting local business owners and enhancing the quality of life for Long Islanders of the First Congressional District. “We’re losing a lot of our friends and our family as our families get split apart moving down to North Carolina and South Carolina and Florida because they can’t afford to get by here,” Zeldin said while discussing Long Island’s cost of living and its impact on community members. He added that some small business owners have experienced or are going through tough times as they struggle between paying their employees and paying their sales tax or other bills associated with their businesses. “There needs to be a fundamental recalibration and better understanding from different levels of government, as to how a small business is able to grow and create new jobs,” Zeldin said as a suggestion to help businesses stay afloat and create more jobs in the community. He admitted that one piece of leg-

islation would not be enough to address every business owner’s concerns or needs. As he continued discussing businesses and Long Island’s economy, Zeldin also voiced his opinion on President Barack Obama’s (D) $15 minimum wage proposal, saying that the increase is not nearly sufficient for Long Island residents — especially those who own homes and raise their families. Long Island’s veteran population and education issues were also a topic of debate as Zeldin discussed his past eight months in Congress. One of Zeldin’s first pieces of legislation to pass kept the government from financially penalizing states if schools wanted to withdraw from the controversial Common Core Learning Standards. Throughout the breakfast, Zeldin emphasized that he is not the type of politician who will turn away from a difficult issue or decision. He acknowledged that making tough decisions may cost him votes, but he will support what he believes to be right for his community. The statement left those in attendance very pleased. “I really feel like he listens to the issues that are going on at hand,” said Elizabeth Folk, owner and licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist at Hand on Health and Wellness in Stony Brook. “He seems very genuine with his speaking. I like the fact that he doesn’t care about the cost of losing his votes if it’s an issue that’s very important to him if [his opinion] is unpopular.” Members of the museum said they agreed with Folk. Deirdre Doherty, director of development for the museum, said that Zeldin’s desire to improve the Long Island economy is not only genuine but will also assist businesses like the museum.

“Museums go beyond just offering a cultural experience,” Doherty said. “They really have socially impactful programs. We educate over 12,000 students a year. So if the local businesses are healthy, then we can be healthy.” Regina Miano, special events manager of the museum, said she thought Zeldin’s event was also a good way for Three Villagers to interact with Zeldin saying, “it was great to have him as a new congressman … to be here and speak at the museum … to introduce himself to people that have probably never spoken to him, [it was great].”

Zeldin also highlighted the importance of meet-and-greets with the voters such as these where residents can meet the political figures that are in charge of addressing their concerns and needs. “Accessibility is important because as an elected representative, constituents need to know that the person they elect to office is representing their passion,” Zeldin said in an interview before the breakfast. “At the same time the elected official needs to be out in the public to listen so that he or she is as tuned in as possible to the top priorities of people elected to serve.”

Local manager keeps customers coming back By Giselle Barkley

Smile. That’s what Gary Shek tells his employees at Wasabi Steakhouse in Miller Place. As the manager of the hibachi restaurant, Shek’s main concern is providing good service by tending to the customers and ensuring high-quality food — two reasons that encourage new and repeat customers to return to the restaurant. The four-star establishment opened March 23, 2014. Since then, Shek is usually the main employee greeting guests when they arrive, and sends them off when they leave. While it may take him a couple tries, it doesn’t take long before Shek remembers the names and faces of his customers, which adds to the guest’s experience. “Let’s say I see your face [one time], a year later, I will still say hi,” Shek said. “You make [the customer] feel like [they are really important]. Of course, business is very important, but the customer, you have to make them feel like family.” According to Shek, some hibachi restaurants focus on having a classy or elegant style, while he wanted his restaurant to be more family oriented, since many of the residents he serves are families who may remain in the area until their kids graduate high school. Kenny Ching, one of the owners of the restaurant, has known and worked with Shek since the mid-1990s. They met while working at the Secret Garden Tea Room in Port Jefferson. Ching said working with Shek is easy.

“I don’t have any pressure,” Ching said. “He can handle [work] pretty much himself. I don’t have to follow him. Training managers isn’t always easy.” Shek credits his management skills to working in the hotel business in Hong Kong before he moved to Long Island in 1990. It was at the hotel where Shek tried to remember the names of hotel guests. It wasn’t until he transitioned to the restaurant business that Shek saw the difference between the hotel and restaurant business. “From the hotels I [saw] the international [people from] different countries,” Shek said. “But here, [there are] local residents so I have to keep smiling every day [even if] I have a bad day.” From 1995 to 1998 Shek also managed a Chinese restaurant for one of the

individuals who owns Wasabi Steakhouse alongside Ching. Although Shek and Ching have to remember more types of dishes now than they did working at Chinese restaurants, they do their best to serve their customers and answer questions about the menu. The service, as well as the food, is what keeps customers like Diana McGeoch and her family and friends coming back to Wasabi Steakhouse. “We come here all the time,” McGeoch said. “Too many [times] to count. Fifteen-plus maybe.” “And he remembers us every time,” Brain Murray, a friend, said after McGeoch. “[The atmosphere is] very warm and welcoming. [Shek remembering our names] makes you feel special when you

come here.” Jean Casola of Rocky Point is another customer who dines at the restaurant for its service and high-quality food. Casola discovered the restaurant last year when she was celebrating her wedding anniversary. “First of all, the service is amazing and polite beyond belief. Then the food comes out just the way you want it,” Casola said as she ate her dinner. Shek said the restaurant goes out and picks up fresh cuts of fish and meats nearly twice a week, but also has fresh food delivered nearly five times a week. Leftover food is discarded after a day or more passes. According to Shek, some restaurants turn this food into an allyou-can-eat buffet. While Shek acknowledges that people come back for the food and for hibachi, he doesn’t believe people come back to the restaurant because of him. “I just want to be a successful manager,” Shek said. But customers like Casola think differently. Recently, Casola helped her daughter Faith pack for Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. She said her daughter misses eating at the restaurant, and in 30 days, so will Casola. She and her husband are moving to North Carolina to be closer to their daughter, but packing up means leaving Shek’s service and food at Wasabi Steakhouse. “I don’t think they’re going to have anything like this there,” Casola said. “And they’re just not going to have another Gary, that’s for sure.”

Charity wins 2015 IAFC award

Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services Inc. was proud to present the 2015 Billy Goldfeder Fire Service Organizational Safety Award, part of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Safety Health and Survival awards, to the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation. The foundation provides funding for the purchase of personal life safety rope systems and firefighting safety training. To date, the foundation has given out $84,000 in grants, including a grant to the Burdett Fire Department in May 2015. The foundation was established in memory of Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo, who was a firefighter with Setauket Volunteer Fire Department FDNY Rescue 3 — one of the several firefighting positions he held. He was

also a founding member and team leader of the Brookhaven Town Technical Rescue Task Force and member of the Brookhaven Town Crisis Intervention Team. Sadly, DiBernardo passed away on Nov. 22, 2011, as a result of the severe injuries he sustained on Black Sunday, the day in 2005 when he and other firefighters, most without any personal safety rope, were forced to jump out of five-story-high windows after responding to a fire in the Bronx. They were trapped on the building’s top floor as a result of blocked fire escapes and illegal partitions. After that tragic event, the survivors campaigned for firefighters’ safety, including the issuance of personal life safety ropes for all FDNY members.

SBU research team earns NSF grant A Stony Brook University research team has been awarded a $935,056 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop the continuous production of ceramic cloth blankets, three-dimensional, self-supported, ceramic nanofibrous materials that will act as photocatalysts for new energy production using water ponds as reactors. The application of the technology centers on solar energy conversion to hydrogen fuel. The project is led by Principal Investigator Pelagia Gouma, a professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Based on an advanced manufacturing method developed in Gouma’s lab, the processing of high-throughput electrospinning for the production of continuous nanofibrous nanomats/ceramic cloths will yield nanomats that will float on water and act as photocatalytic blankets

using just the sunlight to release energy from water splitting. “Our team brings expertise in materials manufacturing, nanomaterials synthesis, electrochemistry and mechanical engineering,” Gouma said. “Together we hope to address fundamental issues that are expected to revolutionize industrial processes … [and] plan to add to the skilled workforce that will guide the growth of new industries for nanomaterials manufacturing, thus creating more jobs.” The research team on the project includes co-investigators Fu-Pen Chiang, distinguished professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Maen Alkhader, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mingzhao Liu, staff scientist, Materials Synthesis and Characterization, Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Francis P. Kelly, or “Frank,” passed away peacefully at age 83 on Sept. 18 after a challenging period of healing following a January car accident. Born and raised in Manchester, N.H., Frank moved to New York City at age 18. He held different jobs and struggled to work his way up in the insurance business. Frank married Georgia F. Kelly in 1958. They later moved to Stony Brook and raised four children. A longtime resident and active Three Village community member, Frank never retired from his professional life at the Fran-

Setauket vet remembered as World War II hero

On Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, the late World War II veteran Jerome Freund, 91, of East Setauket was honored for his lifetime of community service and his 50 years of membership with the Henry James Jones Post 2937 of Medford. Freund, who died Aug. 25, received several proclamations from groups including the United States Congress, the New York State Assem-

bly, Suffolk County and the Town of Brookhaven — which declared the day “Jerome Freund Day.” The presentation, which took place at the Medford Firehouse, included tributes from Brookhaven Township Supervisor Ed Romaine (R) and Town Councilman, Neil Foley (R-Blue Point). It was followed by a luncheon generously provided by the VFW.

Charles R. Rampone, Sr. Charles R. Rampone Sr. died peacefully on the morning of May 31st 2015 at his residence in Setauket, L.I. N.Y. at the age of 88 in the loving company of his family. Charles lived fully and courageously during the three years preceding his death from lung cancer. He was buried at St. James R.C. Cemetery on June 4th. Born in Greenwich Village, New York City on October 21st 1926 to Alfred F. and Julia (Tarigo) Rampone. His parent’s families came to New York City from northern Italy at the turn of the 20th century. Charles, known also as Charlie and Carlo was a strong athletic man. He excelled at Basketball and Baseball at Chaminade Catholic HS in Mineola, L.I. before being drafted in his senior year into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Sergeant and a member of General MacArthur’s Honor Guard in the Philippines. His father proudly received his diploma for him in his absence. Upon returning from WWII, although his talents earned him a scholarship to St John’s University and an offer to attend spring training from Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies, his father, having recently launched a Ford Franchise in Port Jefferson, Long Island had another plan for Charlie. Charles’ sights shifted from playing professional baseball to working on the formation of the Three ©143761

Village Little League. In 1944 Ramp Motors was opened and in 1946 Charles’ career and his long involvement with the community on Long Island began. As a testament to his discipline and efforts, the automotive businesses are now successfully operated by a 4th generation. Charles married Lillian Elizabeth Rampone nee Marsteller, in New Hyde Park, New York 10/28/1950. They moved to Setauket, New York where they enjoyed raising their family of five. Lillian and Charles together enjoyed golf, trips with close friends and family and in later years time in Sarasota, Florida. They especially treasured celebrating all a large extended family has to offer. An industrious man, known for success in business, and as a benefactor, he was a gentleman who lived a life of Service, continuously helping others and actively forgoing recognition. Over the years Charles was active in the community in many ways including serving on the Board of Directors for John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, Hope House Ministries and The Ford Dealers Association. He served as President of the Port Jefferson Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, coached children’s sports leagues, was an active supporter of many causes including: the St. James Roman Catholic Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Cenacle Retreat Center on Long Island.

Charlie Rampone leaves a legacy of caring and thoughtfulness, and friends and family will remember him fondly for simple acts of kindness such as distributing turkeys at Thanksgiving and delivering fresh bagels and the NY Times on Sunday mornings. Many will recall his willingness to provide mentoring and clarity in times of challenge. Fr. Francis Pizzarelli, Executive Director of Hope House Ministries shares, “Charlie Rampone was an extraordinary man. His random acts of kindness and compassion were legendary in our community. He truly led by the power of example.” He is survived by his brother Alfred F. Rampone Jr. and Pamela, his wife, of Castleton, VT, his sisterin-law Rosemary Marsteller of Miller Place, NY, five Children; Charles Jr. (Bonnie Lee) of Port Jefferson, NY, Wayne (Jeanne) of Setauket, NY, Janet Joy (Don Stahlman) of Allison Park, PA, John of Manhattan, NY, and MaryBeth of Westchester, NY. sixteen Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren. Communities across the North Shore are mulling over different ways to address an influx of deer.

At what point does a neighborhood nuisance become a problem that warrants lethal action? A few North Shore communities have been debating whether to legalize hunting deer in their residential areas, after complaints relating to an increase in their region’s deer population. Hunting advocates say the ticks deer carry have been transmitting Lyme disease to humans; the animals are eating their garden plants; and the deer are moving traffic hazards. As a result of the complaints, Huntington Town officials have given residents of Eaton’s Neck the green light — under certain restrictions — to hunt deer with longbows on their own properties. Officials in Belle Terre Village, after receiving emotional pushback from many community members, did not take action on a similar proposed hunting law. The issue is still up in the air in Head of the Harbor, where officials recently floated a proposal to allow hunting there as well. There are many problems with allowing people to hunt deer in a residential location: It will not have the desired effect; it is an unreasonable and disproportionate response to nature; and there is great potential for negative consequences. It’s not a problem for nature to occur around Long Island, it’s merely a fact of life. We hear residents bemoan the loss of open space and cry out against development. Well, this isn’t “The Sims” life simulation video game — we can’t cherry pick the greenery and sprawling beaches, and kick out the deer. Or rather, we shouldn’t. There are nonlethal ways to patiently deal with the deer issue: Spray deer and tick repellant in your area; use tick repellant on yourself when you go outside; check your body and clothes for ticks when you hang out in tall grass or woods; use plants that deer do not eat; and drive slowly on small back roads that are surrounded by woods. Let’s not forget that hunting is dangerous in a residential area because accidents can — and do — happen.

Think twice before hitting the reply-all button

o reply all, or not to reply all, that is the question. But, seriously, when is replying to everyone by email necessary? I know we live in a world where we share every thought that occurs to us because we can. Distributing our thoughts electronically to as many people as possible gives new meaning to the words “publish or perish.”

Still, something about replying all is the equivalent of spraying graffiti, with your initials on it, in my email box. I already get more than enough emails from all the stores that send me hundreds of discounts a day. With all these discounts, I feel like an idiot for paying the listed price for anything. But I digress. I know there are times when replying all is helpful. You see that the conference room is unavailable. Sharing the news will allow everyone to be more productive through the day. There might be a time when you need everyone on a list to know something, like not to park on a side street where the permitparking-only signs might be hard to see. But do all 100 of us on a long email distribution list really need to know that you, specifically, received the email? Not only do people tell us they got the message we all received, but some of them feel the need to embarrass themselves

in the process. A teacher asks all the parents in her six classes to confirm that they received her message. A reply-all message that says: “The Smiths received the email and couldn’t be more excited about the start of a new school year. Every morning, Johnny can’t wait to sit in your class,” is a surefire way to sabotage Johnny as he navigates through the middle school minefield. Then there are the simple emails that don’t require any reply, such as an email with the address of a field or a meeting. “Got it, Dan. We’ve been there so many times before.” Of course you know where it is — everyone knows where it is. The directions and the address for the GPS make it possible for everyone to get there. Seasonal greetings are not, repeat not, an opportunity to hit reply all, especially when the group includes people you’ve never met. An email that “wishes everyone a healthy and a happy start

Someone might, for example, be asking people to bring baked goods to a party, a meeting or a fundraiser.
