Everyone’s A Winner When You Celebrate Local Businesses

I’m incredibly honored to sponsor TBR New Media’s Readers’ Choice supplement for a second time. As this publication showcases, the North Shore is home to numerous remarkable businesses.
Picking a favorite deli, mechanic or any business can be difficult when there are so many excellent ones to choose from in our local towns. The efforts of readers who filled out the form online or sent it in via mail speak volumes about how highly they think of the featured businesses. It’s a tremendous compliment to the owners and their employees that a great deal of the readers felt so highly of them to take the time to vote. For every person who feels a particular business is the best in their region, there are likely a hundred more who share this opinion.These businesses improve our
communities in countless meaningful ways. They add to the numerous reasons why the North Shore is such a wonderful place to live. Local businesses are integral to everyday life by bolstering our communities by sponsoring community events and activities or contributing to local fundraisers by donating gift cards or baskets.
A vital part that our local businesses play is employing residents. High school students, in particular, often find their first jobs in such establishments. Think of all the young people earning money for their first car or college, while developing essential skills to help them transition into adulthood financially astute, or even end up spending locally and recycling funds back into our local community. Think about all the people who, when you walk into a store, you seek them out for their knowledge or enjoy talking to them and sharing stories about life. It’s a truly enriching experience.
Nonprofits also play a vital role by sharing our lo-
cal history and providing venues for the arts and music. Right in our backyards is Stony Brook Medicine/ Stony Brook University, which is a major employer in our area, and the school offers an excellent educational program and bolsters the local cultural scene with its offerings at the Staller Center.
TBR News Media provides a helpful service with this supplement that offers people a guide to finding some of the best spots in our area. With the challenges local business owners face regularly, it’s important that TBR shines a spotlight on them, and our community shows our appreciation. Check out the lists on the following pages; trying something new can be fun, and the establishments will appreciate your visit.
