Dear Friends,
What a joy it is to gather for this year’s Cantor’s Concert an evening filled with beautiful music, heartfelt celebration, and the warmth of our Temple Beth El community.
It's especially meaningful to me that for my first Cantor's Concert at TBE, we are honoring Lisa and Jeff Manheim, two extraordinary individuals whose love for and devotion to our congregation and community know no bounds.
Jeff’s steady presence, quiet dedication, sharp intellect, and irreverent sense of humor have strengthened our congregation in countless ways, even if he never seeks the spotlight. Lisa, who is a bit more comfortable center stage, leads with undeniable passion and energy. Her wisdom, creativity, and tireless commitment have guided TBE through pivotal moments of transition and growth including, but by no means limited to, leading the search committee that brought me here. I will always be grateful to her for that, and for the many ways she, Jeff, and most importantly, Oz have embraced me and my family since our arrival.
From the moment we set foot in Stamford, Lisa and Jeff (and Oz!) welcomed us with open arms, offering their friendship, support, and generosity in ways too numerous to count. But that’s just who they are. They bring people in, lift others up, and make this community feel like home. To know them is to be their friend. And to be their friend is to love them. Their impact on our congregation is profound, and tonight, we celebrate not only their contributions but also the kindness, joy, and unwavering dedication they bring to all of us.
Of course, this evening wouldn’t be possible without Cantor Katie Kaplan, whose music and leadership continue to uplift and inspire us. Her voice is a source of comfort, joy, and spiritual connection, helping us find meaning in our tradition and in each other. It is a privilege to stand beside her on the bimah and to share in the transformative power of music with all of you.
Thank you for being here tonight to celebrate, to sing, and to support the community we love. May this evening fill your hearts with joy and your souls with song.
With gratitude and excitement,

Rabbi Michael Knopf

Dear Congregation,
I’m so thrilled for our annual Norma and Milton Mann Memorial Cantor’s Concert this year. It is hard to believe that this is my 5th Cantor’s Concert at Temple Beth El already. Over the years, we have experienced Telling Our Stories Through Song with Nefesh Mountain, The Long and Winding Road for my Installation, Zamir Chorale and Zamir Noded, Some Enchanted Evening, and this year our concert, All That Glitters: An Evening of Opera and Song.
In the concert this year, we will feature the sparkling gems of beloved and recognizable opera arias and songs. I have always wanted to share the music of this style and genre with our congregation and the opportunity to do so with my esteemed and talented colleagues, Cantor Daniel Mendelson, Talya Smilowitz, and Scott Stein, is one that I am looking forward to with delight!
At this year’s concert we will be honoring Lisa and Jeff Manheim. Lisa was the president of TBE when I was hired and I’ve had the opportunity to witness her commitment, dedication, and love for TBE first hand for several years. She and Jeff have given so much of themselves to support our community and we honor Lisa, Jeff, Emmet, z’l, and Oz for all that they continue to bring in both body and spirit to our temple community.
As the music sparkles in your ears and hearts, I hope that you will smile for the opportunity to be present in a community that deeply values music and the creative process. There is something incredibly healing about music as a balm for the soul and even in a song that you may be hearing for the first time, you may find yourselves resonating with something ancient and at once familiar. So, thank you for the music and thank you for the love!
Mazal Tov Lisa and Jeff!
B’Shalom, Cantor Katie Kaplan

As pillars of the community and with their leadership, Lisa and Jeff Manheim have given so much to TBE.
When Lisa served as Temple Beth El President, she was the founder and driver TeeBeEes - now a growing program, and has led and served on so many other committees, it would take a whole page to mention them all.
Jeff served on the nominating committee and actively participates in the Men’s Club. Together, in loving memory of their son, they spearheaded and saw to completion what’s been called one of the best children’s play areas in Stamford, Emmett’ s Playground, which has turned out to be a huge bonus for our TBE community. In addition, Emmett’s Book Drive provides tens of thousand of free books for local school libraries.
Lisa and Jeff Manheim are so deserving of this honor and recognition. All of our love to both of you and your family. You are great role models for all of us at TBE and beyond.
