Gifts of the Spontaneous
By Taylor Robers
You flew above farm fields,
By bird you flew,
fields,
Above rows upon rows of houses
Above manicured, chemical green lawns
Where every square inch is planned, fretted over
Planted by bird, you saw opportunity, Opportunity in a square patch of landscaping rock
Sprouting from seed, you wiggled your way through rock, You quickly grew towards the light of sun
Bees
of many species cuddle flower’s anthers, Collecting pollen to pay forward elsewhere like fairy dust
After bees’ visit, you feel inspired, You make homemade gifts to share
Wonderful, glistening red berries, Not too tart, yet not too sweet, The curator of the lawn welcomes your gifts, As do the birds, and whoever else
They’re thankful, yet they don’t realize that this gift you shared freely...
is a piece of you
and so, by bird you fly again.
