TAYLOR LEUNG P R O J E C T # 1 0 0 1 - “ P R I M A R Y O R D E R” 2019 This is a project, a present, a promise and also a blessing.

26 June, 2013 - my mother, Veronica So-Leung passed away after suffering from cancer for 4 years.

In 2015, my final graduate collection was built on the foundation of the bonding between my father and myself through Art and Design to pay tribute to the value and the inextricable linkage within the Leung’s family as well as to celebrate my mother’s life.

In 2019, “Project #1001 - PRIMARY ORDER” was prompted by my father’s new marriage.

The main concept is to breathe new life into my graduate collection by integrating elements therein and new conception into a made-to-measured 2- pieces tailoring suit as a present and blessing for my father’s wedding.

“It’s never too late to start, and it’s never too late to begin again.”

The angel number 1001 also signifies spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

MENSWEAR DESIGNER 2016 - 2019 I am a former lead jeresey designer in the menswear team at AllSaints - primarily responsible for designing the men’s jersey, sweats and swimwear seasonal collections. It's a very broad role but in a nutshell, I am designing and developing aspirational and appealing collections for AllSaints, owning the whole process of design from conception to production, working on tasks such as research, fabric sourcing, CADs, illustrator sketches, tech packs, garment fitting, and graphic artworks. I also provide occasional assistance to the shirt and knitwear department.

CONCEPTION - RESEARCH METHODS - Visit Vintage Markets and Design Library to obtain relevant reference samples and artworks.

- Undertake market and trend research via shopping and also looking into fashion shows and trade shows.

- Visit some industry-leading sites and trend forecasters (WGSN, BoF, Highsnobiety, Hypebeast etc) to deliver new ideas which also merge with the brand ethos and cultural DNA. - Research on existing and extinct subcultures through reading and travelling to support the ideas to align with the creative direction.

PRODUCTION - Having a daily correspondence with our suppliers & mills in order to ensure production fluency.

- Participate in the whole sealing process with regular fitting sessions with in-house fit models to ensure our desired fit and styling details are achieved before product sign-off.

- Supervise corrections for samples through production including approval of colours, fabrics handles, washes and dyes - making sure that our products met the highest quality standards.

- Visit our vendor partners regularly to oversee the production line and ensure the bulk quantities match our expectations on all levels.

- Regularly review the collections with the Directors and the Buying and Merchandising team to ascertain the right merchandise mix.

How do my designs capture the spirit of UAL? UAL differentiates itself from almost all universities in the UK in that it is primarily focused on art and design. Its college system also marks itself from its counterparts in that the colleges, each with its own specialities and distinct culture, operate independently in providing a range of courses to their respective students. My design aims to capture the unique makeup of UAL and how all colleges together form a solid foundation for all UAL students during the university days and beyond. Â Each block of rock represents one of the colleges Camberwell, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea, LCC, LCF, and Wimbledon. They are leaned against each other to represent the inter-dependability and indivisibility of the colleges. The rocks together form the federation of the colleges, which provide a solid foundation for the students. Â My design presents the three stages of development of an UAL student. As the first stage, we all started as the unrefined mahogany red block at the bottom of the illustration. The entry into UAL marks the beginning of stage two, where we are supported by the solid foundation laid down by all colleges of UAL and enlightened by our surrounding elements, including our fellow students, our teachers and the inspirations we derive from them.

Graduation from UAL does not mark the end of our development. Instead, we begin stage 3 of our lifelong creative pursuit above and beyond the university days, which is represented by by the large rectangular block. In the design of the canvas bag, there is a white painted tape at the top, which is aligned with the alumni association logo on the other side. This is to illustrate that after we graduate, UAL continues to support us in the background by creating the largest creative network in the world through the alumni association.
