Design Portfolio

Hi! My name is Taylor English and I'm from Aurora, Illinois. I’m currently in my third year at Kent State University, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design with a minor in Construction Management. In addition to my studies, I am an active member of the Kent State Women’s Soccer Team and serve as a student leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time outdoors, connecting with friends and family, and striving toward my athletic goals.
My passion for design is deeply rooted in my love for painting, literature, and drawing, all of which inspire the creative freedom I value in the design process. My approach to design is characterized by intentionality, attention to detail, and a focus on creating welcoming, inviting spaces.

The primary 4-H colors, green and orange, are integrated throughout the design, paired with wood textures, gold accents, and distinctive patterns to support the nonprofit’s mission Both levels feature drop-down ceilings and varying floor materials, with the ceiling and flooring design mirroring each other to create clear wayfinding. Curved elements are used throughout the space to unify the two floors and highlight the adaptability of each individual's journey. This project embodies energy, community, and connection, achieved through a blend of elegance, warmth, and cohesion.

E. 45th STREET

The E. 45th building embodied the concept of archive and library. This project required the consideration of memory, emotion, and connection between the history of an object and the individual. My design captured the elegance and story behind each jewelry piece through intricate detailing, display intentionality, and precise color choices. The warmth of the wood flooring and seating provided contrast to the gold and glass ceiling fixtures. Lighting and shadows were emphasized through detailed partition walls and glass reflectance The ambience of the space represented the worth of each item within the archive.

Built-In Central Seating
The “S” shaped seating design was created with the intention of comfort, vibrance, invitation, and privacy. The concrete materiality of the curved base was chosen to compliment the industrial features. The curve provides a contrasting elegance to the industrial style structure.

PERSONIFYING, PROGRAMING, & DESIGNING

Concept Sketches
This project involved designing a chessboard, chess pieces, and an interior space that complements the pieces. The design blends natural materials, such as a wood board, with the elegance of glass elements. The chess pieces feature curved edges, highlighting the luxury and intelligence inherent in the game. The contrast between the glass pieces and the wooden board creates an interplay of delicacy and roughness. The 3D model is inspired by the structure of a treehouse, incorporating elements from nature and rounded edges The central part of the model consists of two stacked interior spaces, symbolizing the game of chess, where the higher elevation represents the piece that has captured the one below.
