Katina Huston : Unfolding

Tayloe Piggott Gallery is pleased to welcome the artist Katina Huston for her first solo exhibition at the gallery. For this show, Huston was invited to reconsider the foundation of her series of shadow drawings. These drawings began as a way to make shadows tangible, by hanging objects (in this case bicycles and musical instruments) from the ceiling, shining a light through and working the resulting shadow in ink. In her deft execution, she creates forms that are utterly familiar yet completely unrecognizable. The materials – ink on mylar – take on a life of their own, turning the identifiable silhouette into a series of cascading and overlapping hallucinations that ask you to respond more from memory than intellect.
