Nicole Charbonnet (b. 1966) calls “memory” both the source and subject of her work. She uses material from “our shared cultural memory” to not only evoke a sense of recognition and nostalgia but also inform current social and political situations. For "Tales, Trails, and Traces," Charbonnet appropriated from artists such as Bridget Riley, Matisse, Ellsworth Kelly, in addition to images from a variety of films and geometric patterns from wallpaper.
