THE ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE Anthony Van Dervort On Saturday, November 18, Tara and I had the honor and privilege to welcome 200 fellow members to Tavistock’s premier annual event, the Anniversary Ball. This year marked a return to the traditional formal atmosphere for the ball after several years of more casual events and more recently, no event at all due to the pandemic and Clubhouse construction. It was great to see our members all decked out and ready for a party!

The Entertainment Committee and professional staff, led by Bill Bromley, Linda Eynon, and Michelle Hawk, transformed the ballroom into a black-and-white themed wonderland, complete with an elegant black and white wrapped dance floor below the flowing white draped and lit ceiling. Tables were adorned with elegant candle-lit centerpieces of gorgeous greenery. Chef Kelly and his staff outdid themselves with a sumptuous feast, starting with passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, followed by a delicious meal with a choice of filet mignon or grouper, and topped off with a panna cotta for dessert. Everything was outstanding and surpassed our already high expectations! Members danced the night away, thoroughly enjoying the set list and rollicking performance of the outstanding party band, The Bachelor Boys. What an amazing way to kick off the holiday season here at Tavistock Country Club. With our beautiful, newly unveiled Clubhouse renovations, there’s been a real buzz of excitement around the Club lately. I hope you get the chance to spend some quality time with your families and fellow members here at the Club very soon!

Holidays are here A season to be jolly Where else but the Club Anonymous Haiku How nice is it to visit the Clubhouse nowadays? The newly renovated dining and member areas remind me of going to an upscale resort hotel. If you haven’t yet tried out the new digs, perhaps this month’s activities will persuade you to visit. Now that the facility is fully open, we have a very full docket of activities for our upcoming holidays - much like we had before the upgrade interruptions and pre-pandemic . . . remember then? Starting off the month of December is the ever-popular Brunch with Santa on Saturday and Sunday December 2nd and 3rd. This favorite holiday family tradition will be back in full swing, and is now sold out. But if you haven’t made your reservation, get on the phone now to get your name on the wait list. The also very popular Madrigal Singers return on Tuesday, December 12th. What better way to get immersed in the holiday spirit than to enjoy an evening of acapella entertainment along with a family friendly buffet. While this event is sold out, you can join the waitlist now. New Years comes in with a bang and, as we have done in the past, we

are ringing in 2024 with two “midnights” - one for families at 8:30 PM in the Ballroom and one geared for us older folks who can (or wish to) stay up after midnight in the Member Dining Rooms with live music. Call the Club for details but don’t hesitate because both of these will sell out. Imagine celebrating New Years in the new Clubhouse - there is arguably no better place in the Delaware Valley area that is nicer. If you haven’t tried out the new Clubhouse for cocktails, lunch or dinner, I encourage you to make your way over. I’m sure you’ve seen the photos of the improvements, but they can’t compare with the actual feel you get when you sit down in the new venue. Also, the different rooms in the member areas each lend a different type of experience and ambience to your visit - so I encourage you to try out the different rooms when you can. Finally, SAVE THE DATE for the return of the Tavistock Apres Ski event on Saturday, February 3rd. Absolutely the most rollicking party from last year returns and it will be even better. So, get out your ski gear and plan to attend.

Golf Season Update

The season came to an end in October. Golfers wore their favorite team swag to keep with the Closing Day’s theme: “Are You Ready for Some Football.” Pat Bonetti’s cart group won for the best decorated cart, while Jessica Schultz, Agnes Madden, and Pat Bonetti were the team winners for the day. After golf, cocktails and snacks were held in the Ladies’ Locker Room. With Closing Day comes the season’s awards. Congratulations Susie! WOMEN’S 18-HOLE GROUP Patrick Butkus

On September 21st, Susie Kirk and her partner Allie Robertson (Rivercrest) won the Huntingdon Valley Invitational. A field of 88 women from around the Philly area were invited to compete in this event. Team Kirk came out of their top flight to enter a 3 hole, alternate shot playoff. On the final playoff hole, the par 5 18th hole, with just two teams remaining, Kirk hit a drive that left her partner 185 yards to the hole. Allie knocked it on the green which led to a 2-putt birdie to best their opponents by 1 shot, to take the victory. This was the first year Susie played in the Huntingdon Valley Invitational and is now a champion in this event that has taken place for 77 years. Congratulations to both Susie and Allie!

Par 3 Fun Day

WOMEN’S 9 & 18-HOLE GROUP MaryKay Maley

This year was the first time, TCC Women’s Golf Association held a post-season event for all women golfers in late October. The Par 3 Fun Day transformed all 18 course holes into Par 3 holes. After a frost delay and a chilly start, the layers quickly came off and the ladies had a delightful perfect-weather golf day! The format was a scramble, and everyone had an enjoyable day. Lunch followed the event in the Grille Room. The team of Nancy Elzey-Binder, Nancy Lind, Maureen Creran, and MaryKay Maley took home the win. In second place was the team of Connie O’Mara, Christy Rouh, Marilyn McKenney, and Elizabeth Wallace. Congratulations Ladies! Closest to the Pin honors go to Pin #1: Sue Bromley (23’ 8’’); Pin #9: Richelle Maestro (23’ 4”); Pin #10: Grace Worthington White (14’ 8”) and Pin #15: Grace Worthington White (31’ 3”). What do you like about your current position? I really like working with Chef Vita and learning as much as I can from her. She’s really great at what she does, and I love making people happy with desserts.

Do you have any pets? I had a cat Yoshi. Unfortunately I had to find a new home for him because my apartment did not allow pets.

What are some things you like to do when you’re not working? I love relaxing on my couch with a book and playing card games with friends.

Do you like roller coasters? No, I am not a fan of any rides.

What was the first job you ever had? It was at a small bakery called “Sweets by Karla” in Florida. I was making decorations for cakes. 10

Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? Spending time with family at Christmas and getting to decorate the tree together.

SPIRITS OF THE SEASON Anthony Walko, Assistant Food & Beverage Director Whether you’re celebrating the holiday spirit, need some liquid courage for some Christmas karaoke, or have to deal with those pesky in-laws; there’s plenty of reasons to enjoy a drink (or two) this time of year. Here are some tips, tricks, and recipes for you to step up your game this holiday season! First up, wine pairings! Depending on your family’s traditions, there could be a variety of different things you might be enjoying around your table. Here is a list of some popular items, and some recommended wine pairings: Turkey: Pinot Noir or Unoaked Chardonnay Meat Lasagna: Barbera or Sangiovese Prime Rib: Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon or Left Bank Bordeaux Filet Mignon: Right Bank Bordeaux or Sonoma Pinot Noir Gingerbread: Demi Sec Champagne Cheesecake: Ruby Port

Next up, are you hosting an event? It’s always tricky to know how much booze to buy for your party. When I host people I stick to a few general rules that make my life easier (and my guests too)! 1. Don’t try to have everything! Your guests will be thrilled that they don’t have to do the thinking, so keep the options limited. Have no more than two beer options, a sparkling, red, and white wine, and the basics if you want to serve alcohol as well. 2. Make sure you buy what you like! Your guests will be thankful that you are providing them with drinks. If you are going to be stuck with some leftovers, make sure it is something you will enjoy when you want to pop a bottle. 3. Use the weather to your advantage! Usually, it is chilly this time of year. If you have access to the outdoors and it’s less than 40 degrees outside, you have unlimited refrigeration space. You can use it for drinks and some food storage to keep the inside as tidy as possible for your guests. Finally, a warm drink recipe to cozy up with while you are sitting on the couch watching your favorite Christmas movie (mine is Elf).

Anthony’s Boozy Hot Chocolate 1. In a saucepan, add 3 cups of your favorite milk (non-dairy works too), Optionally, add ½ cup of heavy cream for richness. To this add ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Slowly warm on medium low heat to combine and melt all ingredients. 2. Once combined, take off the heat and add 4oz Kahlua, 4oz, Baileys, and 4oz of your favorite chocolate liquor (baileys makes a great one). Stir to combine. Warm a little if needed. 3. Top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate if you’d like! Serves 2-4 people. 16

New Members Meet Ryan Rutherford! Ryan lives in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Jennifer and his two sons, Tucker and Brayden. He is a Senior Vice President for Diener Brick Company. He graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA. Ryan enjoys sports, cars, architecture, travel, boating and fishing. He looks forward to the family friendly environment and attending future events. Ryan also likes the first-class Clubhouse to be able to entertain clients. Meet Richard Super! Richard lives in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Allison and their three children Emma, Addison and Richard Jr. Richard is the President of ABC Discount Appliances in Pennsauken, NJ. He is a graduate of Stockton University. He likes golf and ice hockey. One of the reasons he joined is for his children to be involved in the Junior Golf Program. His family is looking forward to enjoying the social events at the Club as well. See you on the greens soon!

Meet Nolan Tully! Nolan resides in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Elaina and his two children, Nora and Samuel. He is a partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP Law Firm in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his undergraduate studies at University of Pennsylvania and his graduate studies at Villanova Law School. Nolan likes to golf, hike, cook, run and drive his kids to sporting events. He recently picked up the game of golf and looks to introduce the game to his kids. His whole family is looking forward to the social aspect of the Club and making new friends. A warm welcome to Nolan and his family.

Meet Jeffrey Turner DMD! Jeffrey is a Dentistry Practitioner in Somerdale, NJ and has over 26 years of experience in the medical field. He also lives in Somerdale. He graduated from the University of Richmond and Temple Dental School. He has three sons Jeffrey Jr., Jonathan and William. He likes to saltwater fish, hunt for deer and pheasant, bike and enjoys long walks. His favorite sports to watch are NFL and auto racing. He looks forward to spending time with his friends and family at the Club. We look forward to meeting you and your family.
