This is Tavistock’s premier golf event. The Tavistock staff takes pride in making this event special. Chef Kelly and his team prepared a delicious menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Victor Frederico and his crew had the course in peak condition. The maintenance staff, all the servers and bartenders, and of course Patrick Butkus and the Golf Staff put a tremendous amount of time and energy to make the event memorable for all the participants. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate this time around. With heavy rains and gusty winds forecasted, we had to make some adjustments. However, we were able to squeeze in our increasingly popular Thursday afternoon practice round and Thursday evening pig roast. As well as a modified competition on Friday with a full day of food, drink, entertainment, event gifts, prizes, and awards. Congratulations to our overall winners, John Heinson and Steve Belh. Many die hard, optimists took advantage of the Saturday AM brunch with hopes of a chance to play at some point. For once, the weather forecast was right and playing golf was not an option. None the less, the event was a success, and we look forward to making next year’s event even better.

As Fall approached, we were finally back inside the Club and the new dining areas. I know I speak for many when I say it was worth the wait! It all looks amazing. A big thank you to the Long-Range Planning Committee and our staff for their hard work on this project. A very special thank you to our staff for all the sacrifices they made in braving the crazy weather (and cancellations) to serve us outside during the summer. The Entertainment Committee started the Fall with a very successful event… Designer Bag Bingo. Over 100 people participated in a night of bingo, great handbags, and a lot of fun. This is an event we will certainly repeat next year and one you don’t want to miss. Now, on to November! As we kick off the holiday season, this will be a busy month with many events for all. We open the month of November with the Fall Wine Dinner, aptly entitled Positively Pinots. On Friday, November 3rd, bring your friends (members and guests), and enjoy a dinner planned by Chef Kelly with all types of Pinot wines (white, red and sparkling). $105++ per person. Please make your reservations as this will be a sell-out. Back again for the holiday season is our Holiday Wine Tasting. This complimentary event is on

Wednesday, November 8th. This is a great way to taste a large variety of wines and do some early holiday shopping. Saturday, November 18th is Tavistock’s Anniversary Ball. Please join us in the Ballroom, as it will be transformed into an enchanting Black and White theme at 6:30 PM for an evening of classic cocktails, wine, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dancing. Dress is Black-tie optional/cocktail attire; and please feel free to stick with the theme of black and white. The music will be by the Bachelor Boys, a great dance band. The cost is $125++ per person. This is a member only event. Following the Anniversary Ball, we take a breather and time to enjoy Thanksgiving with our families. Then of course December will be upon us and the busy part of the holiday season. Look for information about Brunch with Santa on December 2nd and 3rd; the Madrigals Family Friendly Buffet on Tuesday, December 12th, and New Year’s Eve, (both a family friendly party as well as our adult party). Women’s Golf Fall Fun!

WOMEN’S 9 & 18-HOLE GROUPS MaryKay Maley This season, the 18-Hole Women’s Golfers had multiple tournament cancelations due to Mother Nature providing wet weather and saturated fairways. But luckily, October provided some lovely weather days to get in some rescheduled events. On October 3rd, the 18-Hole Group had a double tournament day, playing both the Stableford Putting Event and the rescheduled Criss-Cross Event. Congratulations to Agnes Madden, who won the Putting Stableford with 22 points. For the CrissCross event, there was a three-way tie at the top, with a net score of 32. Congratulations to Grace Worthington-White, who took first place, followed by Nancy Sloan and Karen Thornton. On October 10th, the rescheduled Solheim Cup Tournament was played on a beautiful, chilly fall morning. The Blue Team pulled out the win over the White Team, 51.5 points to 47.5 points. Teams were formed by the pro shop based on handicaps. New this year, players could choose to play either 18 or 9 holes. Those players opting for 18 holes played a better ball of partners on the back nine and select drive/alternate shots on the front nine. Those playing nine holes played a scramble format. Post-play, all golfers had a lovely lunch to celebrate the event. Thanks to Richelle Maestro, who chaired this year’s event. Other events held mid to late October were the 18-Hole Closing Day Event, themed “Are You Ready for Some Football,” and the Par 3 Tournament. Look for next month’s issue to see the results of these events. Finally, attention all Tavistock Women Golfers: mark your calendar for the TCC Women’s Golf Association Holiday Cocktail Party on Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Join your fellow lady golfers for Hors d’oeuvres and Cocktails. RSVP to the office by November 29.

Pace of Play

GOLF COMMITTEE Craig Roncace Dear TCC Member, On behalf of the Golf Committee, this letter aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the significance of maintaining an appropriate pace of play and your position on the golf course. As my father instilled in me from a young age, “a golfer’s position on the golf course should always be behind the group in front of you, never in front of the group behind you.” At Tavistock, we have established a standard pace of play for an 18-hole round, which is set at 3 hours and 50 minutes. Our GPS Geo-Fence technology is aligned with this pace. In case your group starts to fall behind this pace, the dashboard screen on your golf cart will indicate the amount of time you are trailing. Our pro shop staff actively monitors the carts in real time and, if necessary, may venture out onto the golf course to investigate. The 3 hour and 50-minute pace of play includes a 5 minute allowance at the halfway house. It is the collective responsibility of the entire group to ensure that they maintain the pace of play. A few open holes in front of you can adversely affect everyone playing behind you. If the group in front of you puts a full hole between them and you, it’s time to pick up the pace. All members and guests share the responsibility for their pace of play. Repeated violations of the pace of play may result in disciplinary action enforced by the Infractions Committee. Here are some pointers to help ensure a consistent pace: 1. Prepare for your shot before reaching your ball. Understanding your position on the golf hole and the type of shot you need to execute can reduce the time spent. 2. Hit when you’re ready. The order of hitting is not as crucial as avoiding simultaneous swings; safety should always come first. 3. If you’re using a cart, drop one player off while the other executes their shot, and then head to your ball to make your shot. 4. While a caddy can be beneficial, ensure that their assistance doesn’t become a hindrance. Excessive information and conversation can add significant time to the round. 5. Enjoy your company between shots, not during them. Sharing stories and camaraderie is part of the game, as long as it doesn’t delay the pace, especially on the teeing ground, where all golfers congregate and wait for each other to play their shots. Maintaining a successful pace of play ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy the game. If you find yourselves falling behind, kindly pick up your golf balls, rejoin the pace, and continue from that point. Respectfully, Craig Roncace TCC Golf Committee Member

THE GOLF ASSOCIATION OF PHILADELPHIA

The J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust, GAP’s charitable arm, expanded its Service to Golf initiative to include the entire GAP Member Club roster. That means those working in Service to Golf capacities (e.g. bag room, driving range, cart management, pro shop) at a GAP Member Club can apply. The Trust provides financial aid to those in pursuit of higher education. Scholarships are intended to cover unmet financial aid. Service to Golf applicants must meet eligibility requirements, which can be viewed at plattscholar.org. Click “Become a Scholar” and select “Service to Golf” from the dropdown menu to learn more. Anything out of the ordinary occur in your club championships this year? Did your club’s men’s, women’s, Junior, senior or super-senior champion have meaning behind the magic? Emily Lenett-Caparros (They/She) Barista and Hostess

Where did you work prior to Tavistock? Tavistock was my first job. I was hired as a Busser. What do you like about your current position? I really like the hours. I am a morning person who’s bad at waking up, so work gives me a great reason to do so. Do you collect anything? Books. I really like getting special or early editions. I want to one day have a library which to qualify as one you must have 1000 books (I am at about 250). What is your favorite family recipe? My mom’s potato salad recipe is by far my favorite. She adds honey that gives it a nice touch of sweetness. 10

Do you like roller coasters? Yes, I once rode Nitro at Six Flags 25 times in one day! What are some things you like to do when you’re not working? I am an avid chess player. I like studying several languages, though I am not fluent in any because I skip around too much. I also like to read nonfiction (my favorite writer is Michel Foucault). I also play hockey and I am a cyclist. Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? I really like the 4 questions that happen during the Passover Seder. Christine Novzen grew up in Haddonfield, NJ for the first twenty years of her life and knows many of the Club members, so accepting the Banquet Position here at Tavistock Country Club was an easy decision for her! She currently lives in West Deptford with her Husband Ian, and her 10-month-old son, Jackson and German Shepard puppy, Coop. Before the Club Christine was the Tasting Room Manager and Event Coordinator for Double Nickel Brewing Company in Pennsauken, NJ which is a brewery run by Haddonfield residents. Before that, she was a full-time nanny for a family in Haddonfield. She cannot get enough of this beautiful town! In her free time, she loves to travel, spend time with family and friends and enjoy a nice glass of wine. She looks forward to meeting all the members and getting to know the Club!

JUST IN TIME FOR FALL Pastry Chef Vita Shoaff

Apples are plentiful this time of the year and when baking this cake it will make your house smell so good! Feel free to email a photo of your finished cake with those that you shared it with. mscianni@tavistockcc.com Apple Cake Ingredients: 4 Eggs 1 Cup Vegetable oil 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract 1-3/4 Cups of Sugar 3 Cups of AP Flour ½ teaspoon Salt 1 Tablespoon of baking powder ½ Cup of Orange Juice 4 Small apples diced Cinnamon sugar Directions: • • • • • • • •

Whisk the eggs until foamy. Add the vegetable oil and vanilla. Add the sugar. Add the dry ingredients (flour, salt, and baking powder) and orange juice alternately. Stir/fold apples into batter. Pour into 2 spring form 6” Bundt pans. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top. Bake at 325F for about 40-45 minutes.

Serve and enjoy!

Gina Marie Campellone lives in Haddon Township with her husband Kevin and their dog Max, and cat Ruby. Her son is an urban planner who works in Philadelphia and her daughter is a cybersecurity student at Purdue University, graduating in May 2024. Gina Marie has two stepdaughters and 4 grandchildren. Professionally, she is a Human Resources Generalist at the University of Pennsylvania. Before working at Penn, she was a retail General Manager in Cherry Hill. In her spare time, she is President of Camden County Toastmasters and she volunteers for Camden Companions animal rescue. New Members Meet Thomas Galvin! Thomas lives in Cherry Hill, NJ with his wife Roxanne. He is President of Warwick Family Services, Inc. in Bensalem, PA. Thomas graduated from the University of Albany, NY. He enjoys spending time with his wife, his three children, their spouses and 11 grandchildren. Some of his other interests are golfing, walking, swimming. reading and traveling. He’s looking forward to enjoying the traditions of the Club and the many golf and social events with friends and family. A warm welcome to Thomas and family! Meet Alan Hirst! Alan lives in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Colleen and their two children Victoria and Kathryn. Alan graduated from the University of York, UK. He works for Global Indemnity where he is the Chief Information Officer. Alan is interested in volunteering, community involvement, traveling, running and skiing. He is looking forward to participating in many of the social events with his family and connecting with other members who live and play in this community. Michael lives in Haddon Heights, NJ with his wife Elena and their daughter Sophie. Michael is a Strategic Accounts Manager for The Home Depot dba HD Supply. He graduated from Rutgers University, NJ. He loves to travel and spend time with friends. Many are members of the Club as well. Michael and his family are involved with the charitable organization Domenica Foundation. Jonas lives in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Emily and their two children Luke and Claire. He’s a hand surgeon for Rothman Orthopedics. His undergraduate degree is from Dartmouth College, NH. His graduate degrees are from the University of Chicago, IL the University of Pennsylvania, PA and the Curtis National Hand Center in MD. Jonas likes soccer, golf, running, food and travel. Christopher lives in Haddonfield, NJ with his wife Allison and his two children Eloise and Caroline. Christopher works as an Accountant for the Department of Defense.
