TAVISTOCK NEWS
OCTOBER 2022
We few, we happy few; We Band of Brothers. For he today, That sheds his blood with me. Shall be my brother. William Shakespeare “Henry V”, Act IV Scene III
The above is a creed embraced by our soldiers who forfeit life and limb in defense of liberty. It is also a tribute which Tavistock Country Club seeks to pay to our military on Monday, October 24th. Henry V enunciated the above on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 wherein the victorious British were vastly outnumbered by the French, like the Battle of the Bulge in World War II with the allies. TCC will honor Guests and Member Veterans with a Veterans Appreciation Day Golf Outing on Monday, October 24th starting at 1:00 PM. It includes a box lunch with golf. Each Foursome will include a Veteran from the Eastern
Amputee Golf Association. Awards and cocktails for golfers immediately following the golf outing. Circle the date – October 24th and register via the ForeTees app or call the Golf Shop at 856.429.1827. In addition to the Veteran’s Golf Tournament, October ushers in other entertainment events that should not be missed. TCC is providing a first-time event of “Miss Mariah’s Manners”Old Soul Etiquette on Sunday, October 16th. There will be 2 separate sessions being offered. A 1:00 PM class and a 3:00 PM class time. The event is for children ages 6 - 11 years old and the cost is $30++ per person. This event will be an informative and entertaining. Your child will love it and learn. Give it a try. You may find it will do wonders for your child’s etiquette (not that TCC children do not already have etiquette). SAVE THE DATE on Saturday, October 22nd the Club will hold its Annual Closing Day golf and cocktails. More details to follow in Tavizine. Hope to see you at one or all of these events.

Inaugural Women’s Tavistock Cup Results
WOMEN’S 18 HOLE GROUP Richelle Maestro
The Women’s Tavistock Cup, a season-long, handicapped, match play tournament was introduced this year. The tournament was open to all women golfing members and women of all skill levels competed this year. Initial pairings were determined by random draw.
Congratulations to our champion, Liza Cartmell, who edged out Susie Kirk in a tight final match. No player was ever more than 2 up on the other and the match was won by Liza on the 18th hole. Great playing by the two finalists and all women who competed in the event this year!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
THE RESOURCE COMMITTEE
David Woolley
How long have you worked at TCC?
I have worked at Tavistock since 2017. I was previously the Executive Chef for 16 years at Braddock’s Tavern in Medford.
What is your current position?
My current position is Lead Line Cook.
What is your favorite part about working at TCC?
My favorite part about working at Tavistock is being part of Chef Kelly’s team. I will be forever grateful that he gave me the opportunity to be the opener. This allows me to work in the industry I love during the day while giving me chance to get home to be with my 2 children around dinner time to have a family life.
What is your proudest moment while working at TCC?
My proudest moment would have to be the recognition & warmth received from members about what a great job I am doing and the rest of team in the kitchen is doing.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Something that most people don’t know about me would be that I care about the environment. When I was younger being a marine biologist was something I wanted to do. I really love science and math!
Do you have any hidden talents?
In regard to hidden talents, I guess you could say I like to draw. I really enjoy art!
What do you like to do outside of work?
This is a simple question for me. When I am not working, I love to be with my kids. They are the most important part of my life and I enjoy creating memories with them. We enjoy going to parks, museums and the beach. My son loves looking at the big buildings in Philadelphia, so we always end up there finding something exciting to do.
Anything about your family that you would like to share?
My parents came to the States from Chile when I was about one year old. I come from a strong household built around love and home cooked meals. My parents also instilled a strong work ethic in my brother and I. I have 2 children, Luke who is 6 and Ava is almost 3.
What has kept you at TCC so long?
What has kept me at Tavistock is the respect I have for my coworkers in the kitchen. I quickly realized that many of the people have been at Tavistock for many many years.
This lack of turnover says much about the environment that has been created and I am grateful to be part of it. Also, I really enjoy that Chef Kelly gives us all the opportunity to be involved with creating new menu items for the members.
