Women’s Tavistock Cup is Underway
WOMEN’S 9 & 18-HOLE GROUPS
MaryKay Maley
The Women’s Tavistock Cup Tournament is a handicapped match play event open to all women golfing members of various skill levels. Beginning in late June, the eight brackets of players were determined by random draw. By the end of July, competing pairs were narrowed to the ‘final four’ players, Richelle Maestro vs. Liza Cartmell and Susie Kirk vs. Karen Thornton. On August 1, two players, Liza Cartmell, and Susie Kirk, remained to compete for the 2023 Women’s Tavistock Cup. This final round had until August 22 to be completed, which is past this publication’s deadline, so stay tuned to October’s newsletter for the winner’s announcement!

Matt Cocco Assistant Golf Professional
How long have you worked at Tavistock?
I started the last week of April 2023.
Where did you work prior to Tavistock?
Overbrook Golf Club (Villanova, PA)
Old Marsh Golf Club (Palm Beach Gardens, FL)
What do you like about your current position?
Working with the junior golfers, organizing fun golf events, helping members reach their highest potential and being part of a fun team in the Golf Shop.
What are some things you like to do when you’re not working?
Working out at the Gym, visiting friends down the shore or in the city, finding the area’s best cheesesteak and spending time with my grandmother and relatives.
Do you have any pets?
I grew up with dogs in my family. I had an Akita (Meeko) and a Great Pyrenees (Koda)
Do you collect anything?
I collect metal divot tools and logo golf balls from different private clubs that I have enjoyed playing.
Do you like roller coasters?
Yes! My favorite one is The VelociCoaster at Universal’s Orlando Resort.
Do you have a favorite holiday tradition?
During Christmas at our big family gathering, we make any new partner (girlfriend, boyfriend) stand up and sing a Christmas carol before dinner. It’s always a surprise to the new person attending, and they must pick a Christmas song of their choice on the spot.

Junior Camp Week Recap
JUNIOR GOLF
Matt Cocco, PGA, Assistant Golf Professional
We had an exceptional week at Junior Golf Camp! We had over 70 kids participate in junior golf camp this year! Thank you to all the parents that volunteered to help with our players on the course.
The 9- and 18-hole division saw a lot of incredible play. Will Simonson was our 18 Holer player of the week and demonstrated his stellar play while helping other junior golfers improve their on-course strategy.
Oren Thomas, V won the boys division in our mini-golf competition with a low score of 12 for 6 holes. Veronica Miller won the girls division in our mini-golf competition.
Jack McGroarty achieved his best score of 99. Keep up the hard work! Austin, Jack P, the Fay boys, Veronica Miller, and Emma Morris had perfect attendance as well.
Our 3- and 6-hole golfers saw a lot of improvement throughout that week. We had a lot of fun on our Slip-n-Slide Day! Golf baseball was also a very popular activity. On the last day we were able to learn a few things about the golf course and played a few holes on our own. Mini golf was certainly a hit and players experimented with different putting styles.

Strawberry Crepes
Ingredients:
2 large eggs
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/3 cup cold water
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter, plus more butter for the skillet.
Preparation:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, milk, salt and sugar until smooth; the batter will be thick. Whisk in the water, oil and melted butter.
Heat a 6-inch crêpe pan or nonstick skillet and rub with a little butter. Add 2 tablespoons of the batter and tilt the skillet to distribute the batter evenly, pouring any excess batter back into the bowl. Cook over moderately high heat until the edges of the crêpe curl up and start to brown, 45 seconds.
Flip the crêpe and cook for 10 seconds longer, until a few brown spots appear on the bottom. Tap the crêpe out onto a baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 12 crêpes, buttering the skillet a few times as necessary.
Filling:
Slice strawberries and sprinkle with sugar and set aside.
For whipped cream: Whip cold heavy cream with powder sugar to taste till stiff peaks.
Stuff & Roll:
