As you probably know, the bagpipers are back on Friday evenings to “Pipe in the Weekend” and the sunsets over the first green are lining up perfectly for sunset grill. Make your dinner reservation now. There is no better place in the entire South Jersey area to enjoy outdoor dining than on the Tavistock terrace.

Although the pace at the Club might slow a bit during the vacation season, our Entertainment Committee is in full swing planning events you’ll find fun and memorable. First, the ever popular Cigar Cafe Dinner, held down on the 11th Tee Box is back again on Wednesday evening June 15th, with its wonderful spread of cigars, whiskeys, and its always special dinner. As you probably know, this event is a favorite, it’s so popular there is a waitlist. Next up in June, don’t miss our second ever Tavistock Carnival, on Thursday June 30th. After the success and approval of the notorious “Tavistock Unmasked Carnival” of last year, we have decided to reprise the event with a few new twists - all aimed at making an enjoyable evening of family fun. Even with the rain shower passing through last year, the event was considered one of the best family events ever - so, if you missed it last year, make sure you come out . . . and if you came last year, you know what I’m talking about. Join the fun. So, with the beautiful long summer days upon us, plan your days and evenings here at the Club. There is no better time to be a member and take advantage of our beautiful facilities. WOMEN’S 18 HOLE GROUP Richelle Maestro

The Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia (WGAP), founded in 1897, is celebrating its 125th year of promoting women’s amateur golf in Philadelphia. WGAP offers its women members the opportunity to compete in team matches, tournaments and other events, travel to world class golf destinations, and play at other WGAP courses on Open Days. The first WGAP team matches were held on May 6, 1897. As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, WGAP asked each club to select as an honorary starter for its first home match an individual who has played an instrumental role in team matches for its club. We selected our own Agnes Madden for this honor. Agnes has been a member of Tavistock’s WGAP team for more than 25 years, and served as a team captain for about 15 of those years. A fierce competitor, Agnes represented our club well over the years and amassed an enviable competition record. We’re proud to have Agnes as a member of our team and honor her contributions as part of WGAP’s 125th anniversary celebration.

WGAP Teams, 2022 Season Tavistock’s two WGAP teams completed successful seasons in May. The first team competed against St. David’s, Merion, Cedarbrook, Philmont, and North Hills and finished with a record of 2-3, maintaining its position in the 7th Cup. The second team competed against Philadelphia Cricket Club, Cedarbrook, Llanerch, Merchantville, and Waynesborough and finished with a record of 3-2,

The Women’s 18-Hole Group competed in its annual Member/Member tournament in May. Always a highlight of the season, the tournament format was better ball of partners and included several oncourse contests. There was also a special rotating gold ball in each foursome with a prize awarded to the foursome with the lowest gold ball score. Following golf, the women enjoyed cocktails and a buffet lunch. Thank you to Susie Kirk, Lori Sullivan, and Lizzie Robin for planning a wonderful event, and congratulations to the winners.

Member Play Days give GAP members a chance to experience other golf courses in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. The following venues will host events in June: Bellewood Country Club in Pottstown, Pa. (June 13); Radnor Valley Country Club in Villanova, Pa. (June 20) and White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. (June 27). Registration is open for the GAP/AGA Lawler Junior Tour Series sponsored by Abington Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry and Community Bank. A USGA Handicap Index of 14.4 or better is also required. A participant may not have reached his 19th birthday by the final day of the championship. The Junior Boys’ Championship begins with 18-hole stroke play qualifying on Day One. Thirty-two individuals (16 Championship Flight, 16 First Flight) advance to match play. Cost is $50 per person. We are happy you want to share this with your friends, families, and business associates. Our membership application process has been updated so please take a few moments to read below.

1. Application Candidates complete the Proposal for Membership Application Form. Please make sure the application is filled out in its entirety and signed by both the candidate and primary sponsor. 2. Sponsors Each candidate will need a total of five sponsors who are current TCC primary members. They will obtain a letter of confirmation from their primary sponsor and four letters from their seconders, seconding the nomination for their membership at TCC. All five sponsors will also need to complete the Sponsor/Seconder Form. 3. Submitting the Application Packet It is the responsibility of the primary sponsor to collect the application form (#1) and the aforementioned letters and forms (#2). Only then should the completed application packet be submitted to the Club to Membership Director’s attention, Michelle Scanzano. The application packet may be scanned and emailed to mscanzano@tavistockcc.com, mailed to the Club or dropped off by the primary sponsor. We would like to emphasize; applicants and secondary sponsors should not submit their parts piecemeal – everything should be collected by the primary sponsor and submitted together by the primary sponsor. 4. Credit and Background Check Tavistock Country Club performs a credit and background check on all new applicants. Upon receiving the completed application (Proposal for Membership Application Form and five sponsor letters and five Sponsor/Seconder Forms), the candidate will be provided a secure link to complete the screening. Once the screening has been processed (usually within 72 hours) the candidate will be notified if they will be moving forward in the application process. 5. Posting/Interview The candidate will go through a vetting process that includes a 30day posting in the Tavistock Newsletter. Upon no objection from the membership and membership committee review they will be interviewed by the committee as classification openings become available. Assuming we are able to close any open matters related to the candidate’s application in the interim, the candidate and primary sponsor will be scheduled to meet the Membership Committee for a formal interview. The candidate’s application is forwarded to the Board of Governors following the mentioned Membership Committee Meeting the same month for final approval. 6. New Member Orientation and Lunch The Club will be in communication with the primary sponsor and candidate along the entire process and look forward to assisting new members in making Tavistock Country Club their home away from home. As part of acclimating new members and their spouses to the Club,

Aaron grew up in Florida, attending high school at Tampa Preparatory School followed by college at the University of South Florida. Dinah works as a genetic counselor for Natera, a genetic testing company. Aaron is also a member at Hunter’s Green Country Club in Tampa, and enjoys playing golf, the guitar, and of course, cooking. Any good golf stories to share that you have experienced at some point during your career? A story that really stands out is many years ago I was playing in a match at Burlington. It was getting very dark and on the 18th hole my playing partner hit a shot towards the pin... but nobody could see it because of darkness. He thought that the ball would be over the green. When we got to the green and couldn’t find the ball anywhere behind the green, somebody said to check the hole. Turned out the ball was in the hole and we won the match!

Can you please tell us what other clubs you have been at prior to TCC? My career in the golf industry started at Burlington CC. I grew up right next to the club and started working there when I was 10 years old. This first job found me picking up range balls for $2 day... thought I was the richest kid in the world. In the years that followed I would find myself spending all day at Burlington... caddying in the morning, working in bag room cleaning clubs while also being a cart attendant. If there was any daylight left, I would go out and play golf until it got dark. After Burlington, I moved on to Medford Village and then to the Links where I was the head pro for 6 years. The past 6 years were spent at Old York CC in Chesterfield, NJ until ownership of Old York sold to a developer.

What has kept you in the golf industry for so long? This is an easy question for me to answer. For the 40 plus years I have not considered what I do work. I enjoy wearing many hats and not sitting still. Love interacting with the membership... one moment you are a teacher and the next finds you speaking to a board member of 30 years.

What would you say is your proudest moment during your golf career? My proudest moment would have to be when I passed the player ability test shooting a 2 under par when the pressure was on. I did this on day 2 and made it right on the number!

Anything about your family that you would like to share? I have been married for 20 years and have two children. Have a 16 year daughter named Annika who goes to Cherokee HS. Also have a 12 year old son James who goes to the Jr High School in Marlton.

Do you have any hidden talents that you would like to share? Would not say this is a hidden talent but I find myself to be very disciplined. I hit the gym every day at 5:00 and like cold showers. What do you like to do outside of work? Outside of work, believe it or not but I actually love playing golf… never get tired of it. Also enjoy riding my bike or running. One thing you will never find me doing is binge watching a TV series… after 30 minutes I am ready to move on to something else.

Reciporical Hiring Program Dear TCC Members: The present-day business environment has created hiring challenges and employee retention difficulties and the hospitality industry is no exception. Our current club environments are beaming with strong membership enthusiastically utilizing our club facilities which in-turn requires a strong professional staff to accommodate membership needs. Hiring has now turned into a full-time effort across management teams to reconfigure and redesign employment strategies. Strategically Tavistock Country Club is teaming up with Riverton Country Club and Laurel Creek to unilaterality work together to support each other’s membership needs, hiring expectations, and operational requirements. The 2022 school year will be ending and before we know it, individuals will be searching for summertime employment and we have a solution. Like many private clubs, Tavistock has a policy prohibiting the membership’s children as well as close relatives from being employed at Tavistock. Riverton, Laurel Creek, and Tavistock have joined together and decided that the reciprocal hiring of our membership’s children or close relatives at another club is not only allowed but encouraged. This new venture will afford the member’s children of any of these three clubs the ability to apply for a position at another one of the reciprocal clubs. If you have someone who falls into this category and is looking for a summer job or seeking a long-term career opportunity, please have them apply as soon as possible via the following email contacts.
