The TCC Butterfly Ball is Back! COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT
Michelle Scanzano
It was great bringing back the much-anticipated Butterfly Ball and having dads, grandfathers, friends and all the young ladies creating memories that will last a lifetime! On Saturday, April 13th, Members and guests enjoyed great food, photo opportunities, dancing, and an ice cream bar that pleased adults and children alike! The DJ played several Taylor Swift songs throughout the night as the girls twirled around in their pretty dresses. And let’s not forget the magic show that entertained all! The ballroom was transformed with lots of beautiful butterflies and the atmosphere filled with laughter and singing. Enjoy more photos in this issue and on the TCC website and we look forward to seeing you next time!

To be at the Club
Anonymous Haiku
As you read this newsletter, the spring season is upon us. As dining begins to move outdoors, the ability to integrate our indoor seating with the outdoor ambiance will be coming into full swing with the new bar now being surrounded by fresh air.
The month of May will be breaking quickly from the gates with the full return of our annual celebration of Kentucky Derby Day on Saturday, May 4th. We will be able to access the outdoor areas from the main Clubhouse which will make this event even more exciting with big screen TVs for viewing the race, themed cocktails, special dining choices and appetizers. Be sure to wear your best Derby outfit (don’t forget the hat) and let’s pretend we’re actually at Churchill Downs on this very special day. This event is currently SOLD OUT, but you can join the waitlist!
Join us on Sunday, May 5th for a Cinco de Mayo Party. Chef will have all your favorite Mexican dishes & drink specials to celebrate the day.
If you have not already reserved your seats join us for brunch or dinner on Sunday, May 12th for Mother’s Day and or for Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16th for a BBQ Buffet.
Camp Tavistock is returning on Saturday, May 18th with an overnight stay in a tent. This event is currently SOLD OUT, but we encourage you to join the waitlist. Enjoy a cookout, activities and a campfire.
Finally, two other outdoor favorites returning this summer are the always popular Cigar Café Dinner on Wednesday, June 19th on the 11th tee box and the TCC Carnival on Thursday, June 27th.
We look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Tee-Rific New 2024 Golf Equipment
GOLF SHOP
James ”Cheech” Shukdinas, PGA Assistant Golf Professional
Every year the club manufacturers put out new clubs. It’s always exciting to see the latest gear and the technology behind them. The question Golf Professionals get is, “Are they really better than what I’m hitting”? The answer to the question depends on how old your current equipment is. From one year to the next, technology changes very slightly. But if you wait three to four years, that technology becomes noticeable. So, let’s look at what the new clubs have that your four-year-old clubs don’t.
Let’s talk about the new “Drivers”. The new ones today are still the same size, 460 Cubic Centimeters, same length, and about the same weight. So, what’s different? The biggest difference is the Club-Face technology. Your golf ball will go further when you hit the ball in the center of the face, versus on the toe or heel. When you hit it in the middle, the maximum amount of energy is transferred from the club to the ball. When you hit it off center, energy transfer is lost. With the new drivers this year, more energy is produced even when you hit it off center allowing the ball to go longer and straighter. Really amazing technology!
The Golf Shop has all the new equipment in demo’s to try. Stop in and see for yourself!

CLASS EXPERIENCE FOR OUR MEMBERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND GUESTS. 9
How long have you worked at Tavistock?
8 Years; since October 2015
What do you like about your current position?
I appreciate how TCC takes care of the employees. I always feel valued and respected.
Where did you work prior to Tavistock?
I was a bookkeeper for my husband’s family’s business. Before college, I had various roles in the F&B business.
Do you have any pets?
We have 4 cats: Ginger, Lavender, Autumn, and Winter.
What are some things you like to do when you’re not working?
In my personal time I like to read. I easily finish several books in a year. As a family, we like to do artsy projects together and visit Philly to see a ballet or musical. We also foster abandoned newborn kittens. On the side, I work with international high school exchange students and their host families.
Can you recommend a favorite movie?
I like horror movies and psychological thrillers. I don’t have a favorite.
What is your favorite family recipe?
The only thing I can make is pumpkin pie.
Do you like roller coasters?
Yes! The kids and I love all rollercoasters. My husband does not like rides.
Do you collect anything?
The kids and I like to collect Disney pins.
Where would your dream vacation be?
I would like to visit the hometowns of my exchange students. It would take several trips, but it would be nice to see them and their families. We now have friends in France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Slovakia, Israel, and Brazil.
Meghan’s kids with their foreign exchange sisters, Giulia (Italy) and Ana (France) in their school sweatshirts.
Left to right: Giulia, Cara, Ana, and Jo
Do you have a favorite holiday tradition?
I like to give my husband and kids a new ornament every Christmas. Sometimes it’s random and funny (this year someone received a glass ornament of a rubber chicken), sometimes it’s symbolic and personal (relating to a favorite activity or memory).

TCC’s Past Present And Future HERITAGE AND PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
Scott Leonard
The Heritage and Preservation Committee has embarked on a new challenge to assure the continued preservation of existing historical artifacts and documents significant to Tavistock as well as a path to assure that future events are cataloged and preserved for generations to come. To accomplish this endeavor, the Club has engaged the services of Rand Jerris, Ph.D., an accomplished historian, and author within the golf industry. Rand has assisted clubs such as Morris County Golf Club, Chicago Golf Club, and is currently overseeing the relocation of the World Golf Hall of Fame from Florida to its new home in Pinehurst, NC. The committee is moving forward with archival storage solutions to protect from aging/fading, flooding, fire, and other such hazards. With the recent renovations to the Club, some may wonder where many of the previous display cases and artifacts have gone. These too, are in the process of being reorganized, so that the many trophies, plaques, photos, and club history will be on display once again for all to enjoy. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses.
Rand Jerris, Ph.D.
Rand is an accomplished museum leader, cultural and sports historian and award-winning author.
“My passion is empowering museums, archives, and organizations with rich histories to deliver great impact through world-class facilities and collections that tell inspirational stories.”
