There were many lasting memories created on Saturday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 3rd. Over 400 Members joined us on Saturday and over 500 Members reserved a spot on Sunday for the most anticipated event of the holiday season. Chef Kelly and his staff cooked a delicious meal with all the trimmings and Santa was able to spend time with all the children to hear what was on their wish lists. We are already looking forward to next year. Cheers to a Happy New Year!

On behalf of the Entertainment Committee, I would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. We hope you will enjoy many of the events we are planning for 2024 now that the beautiful renovations to the Club have been completed. Join the waitlist for the sold out return of Après Ski on Saturday, February 3rd starting at 5:00 PM. This was one of the most popular and well-attended events last year and it promises to be even bigger and better this year. The event will be held under the heated tent on the Rooftop Patio with acoustic music from 5:00 to 7:00 PM followed by a DJ until 9:00 PM. Put on your ski parkas and join your friends for an unforgettable night of food and open bar with signature drinks. $75++ per person. Love will be in the air at the Club on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14th. New this year will be a family friendly dinner with a Lady and The Tramp theme in the ballrooms or if you want an intimate

dinner with the love of your life there will be tables for reservation in the member dining rooms. Next up, save the date for an Island themed party with a Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band (Parrot Beach) on Friday, February 23rd. Stay tuned to Tavizine for more details to come. Mark your calendars and save the date for the David Wilson Tribute Night which will take place on Thursday, March 14th. For those of us who were fortunate enough to know him Dave was (and remains) a true legend at Tavistock. Please join Dave’s family and friends to celebrate his life and legacy here at the Club. Holiday Party

WOMEN’S 9 & 18 HOLE GROUPS MaryKay Maley

On December 6th, the Tavistock Women’s Golf Association held its annual holiday party in the Coulter Room which was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The evening included holiday themed cocktails and a lovely buffet of hors d’oeuvres, salad, pasta, and sweets. The Pro Shop held a putting contest with prizes for all, and the evening ended with numerous door prizes awarded, including the holiday-themed orchid centerpieces. It was a fabulous night and a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season. Thank you to Ellen Richey-Porter, Susan Hodges, Meral Smith, and Susan Bromley for their hard work in planning this event.

2023 Year in Review GREENS DEPARTMENT Victor Frederico

After another successful golf season in 2023, we are excited to begin our annual winter work, leading into the 2024 season. One of the main areas of focus this off season is the right side of the 5th hole. The 5th hole is one of the wettest holes on the golf course, and has major infrastructure issues that not only contributes to its ability to drain water but also impacts playability for weeks after a major weather event. Our goal this winter is to expose and open up the right side of the 5th hole, highlighting one of the greatest natural features on the golf course. This work will begin early in January 2024. During this period, we will utilize a 14-hole routing similar to what was implemented during the dredge project several years ago. When you finish playing the 3rd hole, you will proceed to the 8th tee and continue through the 18th. Please refer to the course conditions portion of the website or ForeTees for timing on when this 14-hole routing will be implemented. This work should take approximately six weeks, weather dependent. Our goal is to have all impacted areas throughout the golf course, for all of our winter projects, ready for play by the middle of March.

A natural area (example left of 10th Hole) will be created in this area to the left and right of the 17th hole, with great color contrast and exposing another great vista of the golf course! Finally another aspect of our winter work is concentrated on dealing with very large, extreme storms, and their impact to the golf course. You will see us working on several “notorious” wet areas throughout the golf course all winter, trying to mitigate standing water issues that impact play and cart usage throughout the season. One example of these extreme storms was on September 9th, 2023. During this storm, or “micro-burst”, we received 5 inches of rain to the course in less than 1 hour. Several of our trees were damaged during this storm on September 9th. The large Red Cypress tree behind the 11th green took a direct hit. We waited to see its impact over the last few months, and unfortunately this tree will need to be removed for safety reasons.

The majority of this work will be concentrated toward the first 200-250 yards of the hole, along the right side, opening up the view of the drainage creek. The work will be along the left side of the drainage ditch, from the cart path to the ditch. In addition to the 5th hole, we also plan to expose and clean out the area to the left of the 17th hole, highlighting 10-12 very large specimen trees. J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship GOLF COMMITTEE John Plower

When people ask where I grew up, I usually give two answers. The first is Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, which for those of you who know me, understand how proud I am of my hometown. Which you may not know is that the second place I called home for a large portion of my early life was at the Philadelphia Country Club, as a caddie and member of the golf operations staff. From the moment I was physically able to carry a bag, eventually two, I lived at the club, doing as many loops as I could and reaping the financial benefits of a great job and opportunity. My experience at Philadelphia Country Club was incredible for me in so many ways that is hard to cover them all in a few sentences, but I will try. For starters, it kept me occupied, out of trouble (for the most part) and was a great paying job that required me to walk outside and learn the great game of golf. More importantly, I got to meet so many amazing people, being the members, which eventually led me into a career into commercial real estate and afforded me the opportunities that myself and my family share today. Simply put, I would not be where I was today, without my experiences as a caddy and the lessons I learned in life establishing a work ethic, learning in social situations, being around successful people and setting life goals early that I still endeavor to achieve today.

$1 million in scholarships will be awarded to 149 Scholars, including the following Tavistock caddies and golf operations staff: • John (JR) Lang, Rutgers University • Annabelle McGowan, Millersville University • Anthony Tedeschi, Providence College As Tavistock’s J. Wood Platt Club Ambassador, I am asking each of my fellow Tavistock members to consider supporting our caddies through this Trust. There are several ways to donate, including through the Platt website (https://plattscholar.org). Further, many clubs across the GAP have implemented the opportunity to contribute an annual amount that will be taken directly from your member account each year. Contribution cards will be available from the caddie master, in the pro shop and you can look for me handing them out around the Club. Compared to the majority of the clubs across the GAP, Tavistock’s contribution levels are amongst the lowest. Please help me in changing that!

2023 Year in Review GOLF DEPARTMENT Patrick Butkus

In addition to all of the benefits caddying had on my personal life, perhaps the most significant was the chance to apply and receive the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship. The J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust was created in 1958 by the Golf Association of Philadelphia (“GAP”). The Trust’s mission is to financially aid and empower qualified caddies and those working in golf operations in their pursuit of higher education. Since 1958, more than $25 million has been awarded to more than 3,700 caddies. Following the lead of the caddie master and my parents, I applied for the scholarship and was fortunate to receive it. The financial aid given to me during my four years at Drexel University helped my parents pay for my education. It was not a minor impact and in fact, quite the opposite as my parents would attest. The maximum award of the Scholarship is $10,000 per year and all grants are based upon the financial need of the applicant and their family. Since the Trust’s inception, over 135 Tavistock caddies have received financial aid from the Trust totaling $954,075. This deserves our continued support. In the 2023-2024 academic year, more than 8

Danielle Lawrence Banquets

What do you like about your current position? I like the variety. I work in the Banquet Department and I also work as a Food Runner, a Busser and I can be found making specialty coffee drinks at the Bean on the Green. I enjoy working with my other co-workers in all departments.

What are some things you like to do when you’re not working? I really enjoy music. I try to go to a couple of local shows a month. I am a big Phish and Goose fan and will travel to see them. I enjoy yoga, spending time with my animals, and cooking creative foods.

Where did you work prior to Tavistock? I used to teach, I was a Social Worker, and more recently a Compliance Officer. I always find my way back to restaurants and food service. I find this field the most enjoyable.

Can you recommend a favorite movie? I don’t watch too many movies; I like music better!

Where would your dream vacation be? Anywhere remote and immersed in nature.

HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT Kim Sandelier It is hard to believe that we are saying farewell to 2023 and welcoming 2024. In 2023, our amazing staff showed dedication and versatility during the different construction phases inside and around the Clubhouse. We retained our tenured staff while employing new support staff to gear up for the grand re-opening of the Clubhouse. Staffing in the years since the pandemic proved to be a challenge, however our current employees pulled together and took advantage of our TCC Employee Referral Program to bring 25 new hires to our Club. It is reassuring that current employees would recommend to family and friends that Tavistock is a great place to work. We currently employee 180 employees with various skills across 12 departments. We appreciate the hard work our staff puts in to make our members’ experiences memorable.

PECAN SNOWBALL COOKIES Pastry Chef Vita Shoaff

Ingredients: 1 lb. of soft butter 1 cup of powdered sugar 1 ½ tsp salt 3 ½ cups of flour 2 cups of chopped pecans *extra powdered sugar for finishing Directions: • Cream the butter and powdered sugar. • Add the salt, flour and pecans till it comes together. • Scoop or roll into small rounds. • Bake at 325 till golden brown. • When cool, roll in powdered sugar. Enjoy!

All is going well in Accounting!

This past year the Maintenance Department was heavily involved with the LRMP renovation. From start to finish it was all hands-on deck. Relocating furniture and building temporary walls and bars to accommodate the relocation of the temporary dining areas. Behind the scenes we were running wires for new tv’s, sealing duct work on the roof, installing tents, moving and refinishing the shuffleboard table, hanging tv’s, installing championship boards, installing new windows and windowsills and hanging up new artwork around the Club. In addition to the renovation assignments the Department kept regular maintenance responsibilities such as keeping the Club looking beautiful by detail cleaning, painting, power washing and cleaning gutters. Lots of miscellaneous jobs were completed in addition to kitchen repairs, cleaning ice machines, cleaning compressors and constructing the ever so popular Haunted House. We look forward to 2024!

2023 Year in Review

COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT David Latimer

The Communications Department saw a lot of change and growth in 2023. Our monthly newsletter, Tavistock News, continues to add new content each month, like Scenic Views and Wear it Proudly, which have been well received thanks to the great submissions from Members. We also refreshed the front cover in October to evoke the look and feel of a traditional magazine. With the end of construction of Phase II of our Long Range Master Plan came the end for our part of the project, too. We captured professional photos of the finished product for our website and archival purposes. We also put together a video highlighting the before and after transformation, which was played at our Grand Reopening in November. As Communications Director, I received my Part 107 Drone Pilot License from the FAA, which will enable us to capture breathtaking new photos and videos that weren’t possible before with the help of our new drone. As we look to 2024, we’ve created a road map of more exciting things to come, like a refresh of our website by the end of the year and enhancements to our Member Texting service.
