I AM HONORED to serve as this year’s volunteer campaign chair and look forward to an exciting year of hard work for many good causes in our community.
We are building a strong group of volunteers dedicated to running an energetic and impactful campaign across the six-county area served by Tulsa Area United Way. I am sure we will have many of you, our Tocqueville Society members, right there with us, as you have been year after year, because we all believe in the Power of Living United.
If you want to be more involved than you have been in the past, please reach out to me – we need your help!
When people ask me why I am doing this, my answer is easy. Giving to United Way ensures we all have an opportunity to thrive in the face of life’s challenges. It makes our community more resilient. By working together to improve the lives of others, our own lives are enhanced as well.
Through giving, we are able to:
• Make sure kids have a home where they feel safe and don’t worry about their next meal.
• Create pathways to meaningful work for the unemployed and underemployed. • Ensure those struggling with mental health get the help they need.
• Help people in our community overcome and succeed.
What I am learning in my relatively new journey as campaign chair is that the needs in our community are greater than I initially understood. The causes of homelessness are more complex than I realized. The barriers to escaping poverty and its impacts are more challenging than they initially appeared. Yet despite all of this, the Tulsa Area United Way is giving people hope and support to rise above – it’s happening every day.
After several years of pandemic challenges, filled with ongoing uncertainty and unrest, the needs in our community have grown significantly. Every dollar donated to United Way improves the story of a person, a life, a member of our community. Individually we can do a little. Collectively we can do a lot. Please consider your “why” and the difference you can make in our community by giving to United Way.
I look forward to working with all of you to strengthen our communities and demonstrate our resilience. Erica Dorwart, 2022 Tocqueville Society chair and I invite each of you to get involved and show how much more we can do in 2022. Thank you for your support of the Tulsa Area United Way.
