GREERTON LIBRARY OPENS!

3773 items were issued to Greerton Library fans on opening day.

Hundreds of people braved the chilly weather to attend the opening of Greeton Library on July 15, which was officially opened by Mayor Stuart Crosby. There was a buzz in the air and plenty of smiling faces as people poured into the new library to discover all the new things on offer.

The new library is twice the size of the old library and is a modern, engaging and vibrant facility for the Greerton community.

In addition to regular library services, the new library includes a community meeting room and Learning Centre.

Greerton Library has attracted a record number of visitors since opening, with more than 4000 people visiting in its first three days alone! The positive feedback has been overwhelming and we’d like to thank everybody who has supported the new Greerton Library so far.

RUGBY MEETS READING AT GREERTON LIBRARY Greerton Library opening celebrations began a week early, as Greerton Primary students were given a sneak peak of the new Library ahead of its official opening – and all with the help of some very special guests. Members of the Bay of Plenty Steamers and Volcanix squads were on hand to read stories to the excited children - providing a lot of laughs - and then the enthusiastic students were toured around the Library. The level of excitement from the students was fun to see and afforded the Greerton Library staff a welcome boost before the big opening week ahead.

Thank you very much to the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union for being such good sports and good luck for the season ahead!

MATARIKI KITE DAY An annual highlight of the Tauranga Moana Matariki Festival, Matariki Kite Day lived up to its billing this July.

The weather was glorious and crowds of families enthusiastically embraced the occasion. Over 1500 people made their way to Fergusson Park for the kite display and - thanks to the stunning weather - waited patiently for the wind to pick up! Thankfully, the wind arrived in the afternoon and the largest kites managed to rise into the sky, receiving applause from the patient crowd and capping off a brilliant day out.

Well done to Bernie and her team for pulling off another fantastic Matariki programme!

LYON O’NEALE ARNOLD LIBRARY LAW SERIES PROVES POPULAR The Tauranga City Library Law series, organised by Business Librarian Michelle Sims, proved so popular that Lyon O’Neale Arnold were inundated with requests for an encore. They happily obliged, returning for three more sessions to top off a very successful four-month long programme.

PAPAMOA LIBRARY TURNS 10 YEARS OLD! It’s been ten years since the Papamoa Library and Community Centre opened its doors to a flurry of activity, attracting 8000 new members and issuing more than 17,000 books to almost 6000 people in its first fortnight!

Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby, together with past and present staff members as well as others involved in establishing the library, marked the occasion with a rather large cake - kicking off a wonderful week of celebrations.
