THE TOOLAMBA QUILT

White Rainbow Bridge

#5secondrule by Rhonda White Toolamba – Little Town, Big Heart has been commemorated in a beautiful quilt made by Rhonda White, who operates Simply Quilts in Toolamba. Rhonda made the quilt in response to an invitation form Victorian Quilters Inc to the Toolamba Craft Group. Although other members of the group were unable to commit to making a quilt at that time, Rhonda accepted the challenge and called on Toolamba residents to contribute photos or sayings about what Toolamba means to them. All aspects of Toolamba are recognised on the quilt; the school, the shop, the pub, the park, the community groups and the local environment. The quilt was included in Victorian Quilters Inc Showcase 2018 and was displayed at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in July as part of the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair. Rhonda received some funding from Toolamba Lions Club to help with

Toolamba Community Quilt the cost of printing photos onto special photo fabric. She is hoping that the quilt can be hung in the community hall so that all community members can enjoy it when attending gatherings and events. She is also looking at the possibility of having postcards made with a picture of the quilt, so everyone can have their own copy. Rhonda has now been bitten by the quilt challenge bug. Her ‘Rainbow Bridge’ quilt was a finalist in the Australasian Quilt Convention’s ‘Borders and Bridges Challenge’ and she recently had her ‘#5secondrule’ quilt accepted into the Australian Machine Quilters Festival which will be held in Adelaide in September. If you are interested in learning how to make a quilt Rhonda holds quilting classes, just give her a call on 0417 315 171
