TAS International Short Stay Program
Trinity Anglican School (TAS) offers individual overseas students the opportunity to study for 4-10 weeks in our secondary school Students are fully immersed in the TAS culture, participating in the appropriate year level subjects and co-curricular activities.
TAS has a diverse and multicultural community, enrolling students from all over the world. TAS teaches Japanese from Year 3 to Year 12 and has welcomed Japanese students and school tour groups for over 30 years. For this reason, we prioritize Japanese short stay student enrolments.
Places are limited so we advise students to apply in advance, particularly for the peak periods of July and August

Student age and program length
The program is suitable for students in Years 811, usually aged between 13-17 years old Students in Year 7 or 12 years old may apply if they are traveling with their family. Studying overseas is both rewarding and challenging, so it is important that students have the maturity, attitude and skills to cope with school and life in a different cultural environment.
The minimum enrolment is 4 school weeks, and the maximum is 10 weeks (one term). This study period allows time for students to improve English language skills, make friends and become familiar with life in Australia. Students must hold a valid visitor visa during their enrolment.
English requirements
There are no formal English requirements for the short stay program, however students will need sufficient English to fully participate in mainstream classes. Intermediate skills, such as EIKEN 2 level is generally suitable The enrolment process includes an interview in English.
English language lessons
The short stay program is a full immersion program in regular classes alongside domestic students, studying the Australian Curriculum Depending on individual student needs the school may offer supplementary timetabled English Language lessons.
The school may also provide informal English language testing at the start and end of the study period. This allows students to identify areas for growth and measure how their English improves during the program
Subjects
All students study the following core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Japanese and Physical Education. The range of elective subjects will depend on the year level and subject availability but may include Music, Art, Drama, Design Technology, Digital Technology, Business, Engineering and Food Technology.
Co-curricular activities
TAS offers a wide range of co-curricular activities, within school hours or before or after school. These may include choir, gym, art, esports, yoga, drama, writing club, cooking, esports, chess, various sports, craft, academic tutoring and community service activities. Some optional activities may incur additional fees.
Approval of school activities
Some school activities need parent permission prior to student participation. This can be done online via the TAS Parent Orbit app (mobile) or TAS Parent Lounge (desktop). Families will receive onboarding information to help them access the school online platforms. If the student is participating in an outdoor (camping) education program during their stay the school will need parent permission prior to enrolment. Homestay families or agents cannot be delegated authority to provide permission.
Academic and personal expectations
The school expects students to try their best in the mainstream study program and will be allocated to elective subjects that suit their English abilities and interests Students will not receive individual marks or an academic report an instead receive a certificate to acknowledge their participation in the program. Students must follow the TAS Student Code of Conduct, behaviour and uniform expectations.
Education agents
Education Agents can assist families to plan overseas studies, travel and accommodation and provide extra local student support. The school does not pay commission to education agents for recruitment to the TAS short stay program; however, we can provide contact details of several local agents on request.
Student welfare
Parents/legal guardians are responsible for students' welfare in Australia They must arrange suitable accommodation and care for their child during their entire stay. Some families use an Education Agent to provide additional support for students while they are in Australia. The school has a duty of care to all students to provide a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment.
Student support
Students are supported by their Home Room Teacher and the International Student Support Coordinator. Students also have the support of the Head of Secondary School (Japanese speaking), Head of House, School Chaplain, School Counsellor, Year Level Coordinator. Each student is paired with a TAS student buddy to help them find classes, meet teachers, make friends and adjust to school life. TAS staff regularly check on short stay student wellbeing
Accommodation and transport
Students can stay with their family, a close family relative or friend, or in homestay accommodation via a private provider. The school can provide the contact details of several local Education Agencies that offer private homestay services. The school does not operate a homestay program or boarding house.
Homestay providers are responsible for sending information about a student’s homestay family before their arrival. Students must provide the school with the names, address and contact details of their homestay family. The school will contact the homestay family before a student’s first day of school to ensure they know where to go and have the information they need to support a homestay student at school.
Students will need to arrange their own transport from the Airport to their accommodation. Some local agents provide an airport service or will arrange for homestay families to collect students. The school does not provide airport transfers. Travel to and from school is by private vehicle or TAS school bus service School bus fees are separate and can be billed on a pro-rate basis.
Pre-arrival information
Once enrolment is confirmed we will email a link to our New Family Student Guide. The guide includes information about everything students need to know before their first day. Where possible, we may also arrange an online prearrival meeting to answer any questions.
Fees and other costs
In 2026 the weekly tuition fee is: $875 This fee includes access to a laptop computer, textbooks, outdoor education program (if applicable during enrolment period) and curriculum-based excursions. Some optional school activities may incur additional fees. Stationery, such as exercise books and pens, are not included and must be purchased by the student. This will cost approximately $130. Students must wear their own formal school uniform. They do not need to purchase a TAS uniform. Parents/Guardians are responsible for ensuring their child has sufficient funds for travel to Australia, accommodation, food, local transport and spending money.
Successful applicants are sent an invoice with a deposit and balance amount to be paid at least 2 weeks prior to commencement. Payment must be made directly to the school by credit card or bank transfer. The school buses and tuck-shop can be paid for via My Student Account (MSA), which is connected to the student card provided at commencement of studies. Student can add amounts to their student card either online or at school reception using a bank card.

What to bring

• Curiosity and positive attitude.
Weekend activities
There are many amazing attractions and activities in Cairns and surrounding areas. Students can expect to spend weekend time relaxing, spending time with their family or host family, helping with chores, meeting up with friends, doing school homework.
Students might visit places such as:
• Cairns city, esplanade and lagoon.
• Carins Botanic Gardens and Aquarium.
• Day trips to the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage Rainforest.
• Museums, art galleries, music and performing arts.
• Shopping centers, markets and boutiques.
• Beaches, bike paths and hiking trails.
Longer term enrolment
To meet visitor visa study conditions, TAS offers a one-off maximum enrolment for 10 weeks. Participating in our short stay program is a great way for students to experience TAS before deciding to apply for longer-term enrolment
Students wishing to become a long-term international student must apply via our TAS ‘Student Visa’ Program. The enrolment process requires English language proficiency testing and academic assessment prior to acceptance. Students must have completed the TAS international student enrolment process and have received a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) prior to submitting an offshore student visa application.
Students will need to arrange an Australian Government approved ‘Student Guardian’ to look after them during their time in Australia Generally, the government will only approve a parent or close family relative to be a Student Guardian. Student Guardians cannot leave Australia without the student and generally have ‘no work’ or ‘work limitations’ as part of their visa conditions Please note, TAS does not provide Confirmation of Welfare and Accommodation (CAAW) letters for international students.
