COACH‘S MESSAGE

Dear Newport Harbor Families and Friends,

We’ve reached Week 9, and while the record might not be where we hoped it would be, this team continues to fight with heart, toughness, and unity. After dropping our first two league games to Tesoro and rival Corona del Mar, we remain focused on what lies ahead — three major matchups against San Juan Hills, Yorba Linda, and Villa Park, all among the top teams in Orange County.

I told our players that projections are just projections — they don’t define who we are or what we’re capable of. We control our own destiny. Our goal is simple: take it one game at a time, line up for four full quarters, and play Newport Football the way it’s meant to be played — with passion, discipline, and relentless effort.

The adversity we’ve faced through the first seven games has forged resilience in this group. We’ve been battle-tested week after week, and those experiences have prepared us for the stretch ahead. This is where toughness matters most, and I have no doubt our team will rise to the challenge.

As we head into these final three games, I’m proud of how our players have continued to believe, compete, and represent Newport Harbor with class. The work they’ve put in on the field and in the locker room speaks volumes about their character and commitment to each other.

Thank you, as always, for your unwavering support. The energy from our families, alumni, and community fuels us every Friday night. Let’s finish this season strong — together.

GO SAILORS!

A warm welcome to our alumni who have returned to campus. Your legacy lives on in every touchdown, every performance, and every cheer from the stands.

To our players, coaches, cheer squad, marching band, and dance team - thank you for representing Newport Harbor with passion, dedication, and teamwork. You’ve put in countless hours preparing for nights like this, and your commitment reminds us what Sailor Pride truly means.

This year’s team continues to battle through one of the toughest schedules and leagues in CIF football. There is no quit in this team as they continue to play with heart and determination.

As we come together to celebrate under the lights tonight, lets celebrate everything that makes

Newport Harbor High School an extraordinary place to learn, grow, and belong.

I will echo a past request. Let’s piggy back on Coach Burns, the Staff, and the Players in giving our best on the following fronts:

1. Lets show our Best Respect to the hard work and competitive spirit of our young men and women as they compete, by modeling good sportsmanship and proper decorum at all of our games and events.

2. Let’s offer Our Best Hospitality to the guests we host at Davidson Field. We havethe most beautiful high school setting in the land. (Just look up at the sky during kickoff). Let’s be thankful for that and make sure our guests feel welcome.

3. Finally, let’s give Our Best Effort in all things we do as Sailors, whether that be on the field, in the classroom, or around the community.

For these special games, I would like to thank the dedicated class of 2026 student-athletes in football, marching band, & cheer, along with all the parents and supporters who have devoted their time, effort, and money to our programs.

GAME REVIEW

Game 7 – NH @ Corona Del Mar

The 64th Battle of the Bay took place under the lights at Orange Coast College. The atmosphere was buzzing as the two rivals took the field. Corona Del Mar got the better of Newport Harbor with a final score of 21-6. The Sailors still have a big edge with 40 BOTB wins against 24 for the Sea Kings.

In a rivalry game that always brings out the best in both teams, Newport Harbor’s defense stood tall, proving once again why they’ve been a force all season. The Sailors held the Sea Kings to just 21 points, their lowest output all season. The Sailors applied solid pressure and made some key stops to thwart the high-scoring Sea King offense. Owen Baldikowski (9) and Glenn Baranoski (19) each recorded a sack, while Cameron Hatfield (33) forced a fumble in the red zone that halted a potential scoring drive and swung momentum back to the Sailors.

Offensively, Newport Harbor had a new quarterback leading the offense. Jordan Spigarelli (18) was under pressure most of the game as he completed 15 of 31 for 160 yards. Jordan also turned in 31 yards on the ground, highlighted by a hard-fought rushing touchdown. Shane McKibbin (5) was a reliable target, hauling in seven catches for 83 receiving yards, which was half of the Sailors’ total yards through the air.

Though the final score didn’t tilt in Newport Harbor’s favor, the Sailors played with grit and heart.

Game 8 – NH vs San Juan Hills

Newport Harbor faced off against San Juan Hills for their third game of league play. The Stallions bested the Sailors 47-10.

Quarterback Jordan Spigarelli (18) led the Sailors’ offense. He went 21 for 30 for 142 yards and a touchdown. Spigarelli was also the Sailors’ leading rusher gaining 52 yards on the ground. Ty Ditteaux hauled in three catches for 41 yards and Newport Harbor’s only touchdown. Daniel Rico (24) knocked in a field goal late in the fourth quarter to bring the Sailors’ point total to 10.

Defensively, the Sailors had their hands full with the Stallions’ high-powered offense. Glenn Baranoski (19) and Ethan Ambat (4) combined for 21 tackles. Collectively, the defense had 70 tackles and seven hurries. The Sailors held the Stallions scoreless in the second half.

The Sailors continue to play with heart and tenacity. As they look toward their Homecoming match up with Yorba Linda, they can count on the energy and roar of the crowd to fuel them.
