LOS ALAMITOS TOO MUCH FIREPOWER FOR SAILORS

If you like high-powered high school football, Davidson Field was a good place to be last Fri day when the Sailors hosted the Los Alamitos Griffins.

Whether it was a USC-bound combo of (QB) Malachi Nelson to (WR) Makai Lemon touchdown, a burst of speed from Colorado State-bound (RB) Damian Hen derson, or touted transfer from Georgia transfer T.A. Cunning ham (all 6-foot-6 270 lbs of him), it was an entertaining game, to say the least.

To Newport Harbor’s credit, it never shied away from the challenge and didn’t allow itself to get blown out that easily.

Colton Joseph (QB) was notable. After the first two offensive series when the passing attack was denied, the senior quarter back took matters into his own hands and ripped off a 61-yard rushing touchdown.

Joseph eventually got the passing game going and capped a nice drive off with a nine-yard passing touchdown to Tommy Robinson.

Onward and upward as it was “good to get this one out of the way” and now the Sailors can focus on the next few Sunset League games – starting tonight with the Edison Chargers.

booster’s message

Dear Parents, Alumni, Sponsors, and Fans of Newport Harbor Football.

Tonight’s matchup vs. Edison will be a spirited one.

A lot of these kids have played against one another since “Pop Warner” (or Junior All American) years. This means neighbor hood bragging rights are on the line.

Also on the line is a Sunset League win (or loss). So buckle up and enjoy the game – it should be a good one.

It’s not possible to see this kind of progress without the prop er resources. This is where the booster club finds its purpose… to make sure the program has the necessary resources to help the kids reach their full potential.

A huge “Thank You” to those that have given in the past (both time and money) in support of all these neighborhood kids. The program simply would not be possible without the generosity of the Newport/Mesa community.

Here’s how you can help (3 ways):

n If you own a business, consider being a sponsor of the team. We have sponsorships that range from $90.00 to $9,000.00 - literally something for everyone/anyone. Just email me at: JLavin@TarFootball.com and we’ll send you the infor mation. We have one (1) 12TH TAR Sponsorship still available. n Buy a Christmas Tree from the football/cheer program this year. Check the website for more details - the trees are up there for sale now. Pre-order and you can pick it up the weekend of December 3rd from the 16th street parking lot, or have it delivered by a hard-working Sailor to your home.

n Get a “SUPPORT NEWPORT FOOTBALL” lawn sign for a $50.00 donation. Our goal is 250 signs throughout the neighborhood. Just go to TarFootball.com and click “shop” to easily purchase it. A hard-working Sailor will deliver the sign to your front lawn.

To all Alumni, Parents, and Community Supporters… Welcome!

This is NHHS’s 93rd year of playing football. As of this writing, Coach Loft house and the football staff have our varsity team at 4-2.

The JV team is also 4-2.

And the freshman team, whose only loss was to JSerra of the Trinity League, is 5-1.

So football is off to a great start – and so is the school. This has by far been the best year in memory as we “get back to normal” and enjoy all the enriching expe riences that high school has to offer.

Last week was our Sunset League opener. We hosted Los Alamitos with their slew of division 1 committed schol arship athletes and our team did not shy away. I am proud of the fight our players showed on the field, and the sportsman ship they showed on and off the field.

Tonight we host, again, a top-ranked program in the Edison Chargers. This game promises to be exciting and could have CIF playoff implications.

As a side note, the Edison Chargers have dedicated its season to brothers Joshua, 18, and Jeremy Page, 17, two Edison linemen killed in a car crash in Huntington Beach in March. Joshua was a senior while Jeremy was a sophomore. While we are fierce rivals on the field, our hearts extend to the Edison family for their loss.

Let’s demonstrate GRATEFUL to be a part of this great school and community by supporting the players in GIVING OUR BEST on the following fronts:

n Let’s show OUR BEST RESPECT to the hard work and competitive spirit of our young men and women as they compete—by modeling good sportsmanship and proper decorum at all of our games and events.

n Let’s offer OUR BEST HOSPITALITY to the guests that we host at Davidson Field. We have the most beautiful high school setting in all the land (just look up at the sky at kickoff). Let’s be thankful for that and make sure our guests feel welcome.

Finally, let’s give OUR BEST EFFORT in all things we do as Sailors, whether that be on the field, in the classroom, or around the community.

coach’s message

Welcome “back-to-back-to-back” at Davidson Field.

One benefit of playing so many early games on the road is that we get a lot of home games late in the season.

Thank you, students, parents, and fans for supporting the program. The players really feed off the energy (and so do the coaches).

Tonight we play the Edison Chargers. They bring with them a perfect 6-0 re cord. Our players are hoping to spoil that zero-loss record tonight. This is our sec ond league game. As you know we fought but lost to Los Alamitos last week.

As always, my hope is that it’s a spirit ed game and the effort and sportsmanship on the field represent Newport Harbor High School and what our community stands for.

Finally, as with all home games, please

make sure you stay until the end when we sing our alma mater.

In case you’re not sure of the words, here is a study guide:

“Hail, our Alma Mater, to her grey and blue; We give her love and honor for her spirit’s true. (it’s true) Our loyalty to Harbor High ever will our standard be. We’ll fight for the night, so hail Harbor High!”

I’d like to thank Dr. Boulton and the administration, teachers, and booster club for taking such an interest in the football program. Let’s play some football. O

Peter Lofthouse, Head Football Coach

THE ESSENCE OF COACH LOFTHOUSE’S “5 F’S” PHILOSOPHY

Getting a few minutes with Coach Peter Lofthouse is easier than you might think.

After spending more than eight years at the JUCO ranks, including a historic season at San Diego’s Mesa College where in three short years the program went from 3-7 to 9-2 and won its first bowl game in over 30 years, Coach Loft house has settled into Newport Harbor High School and is our 5th year head football coach.

“Anytime someone wants to talk about what we’re trying to accomplish at Newport Harbor,” Coach Lofthouse says, “I’m Interested.”

Coach Lofthouse believes that the game of football, at the high school level, is a teaching tool and an oppor tunity to change the lives of young men through experience. It’s a unique opportunity for teenagers to not only learn values that work on the football field, but any athletic field… and more importantly, values that they can instill into their lives well beyond their high school years.

These values are called “The 5 F’s” and it’s instilled in EVERYTHING we do.

FAITH

Faith in yourself. Faith in your team mates. Faith in your coaches. BUY IN to what we’re doing on this football team.

FAMILY

FRIENDS

Aligning with buddies that have high morals and good character. Friends (and teammates) that hold each other accountable for their actions.

FOOTBALL

Having fun and playing hard and play ing to the best of your ability.

FINISH

Finishing everything you start. Whether it be homework, a test or “playing until the whistle” – give it your best effort.
