NHL SEATTLE ICE CENTRE

New three-rink ice centre with state of the art training center and office headquarters for the new NHL team
Since the announcement of the new National Hockey League team in Seattle, our design team has been working hard at creating a state of the art training facility. Along with 20,000 square feet of office space for the team’s headquarters, this three-rink complex will have ample amenities for the community to come enjoy. From the beginning stages of predesign, we have tried to keep in mind the subtleties in designing a building in the pacific northwest region by incorporating local materials and connecting it back to nature. Positioned in the center of a new mixed-use development in the Northgate neighborhood, the building has exposure on all four sides, requiring unique design solutions to break up the large mass to a pedestrian scale. Along the west facade is a pedestrian promenade that is activated by commercial and retail uses. The southern edge is directly adjacent to a central public park, and the third ice rink will open its doors to create an indoor/outdoor connection during permitting weather. The main entrance is situated facing east at the end of a view corridor from NE 106th Street, and the NHL training and headquarters will border the northern parking lot, giving privacy to players and staff. CARRIAGE CLUB TENNIS PAVILION
Tara Sears Portfolio
Modern tennis facility at the heart of a historic country club
The historic Carriage Club in Kansas City is modernizing their tennis program with a brand new tennis facility. Driving the design was the desire to be able to view all of their 12 courts and merging the exterior and interior architecture into one language. The soaring canted roofs were fabricated with cross-laminated timber panels, seamlessly transitioning the user from inside to outside. Expansive glazing lines the edge of the main area, providing plenty of natural light. Outside are 5 distinct viewing decks, with one offering a heated patio for social gatherings complete with an outdoor bar. New retail and lounge areas were completed with custom millwork that gave the club members amenities they were lacking before.

UMKC STUDENT HOUSING

Mixed-use student housing in an urban environment
University of Missouri-Kansas City is the largest academic institution within the Kansas City metropolitan area, located centrally near the bustling plaza neighborhood. The university was looking to expand its residential opportunities by constructing a multi-family apartment structure a few blocks south of campus. This 90-unit complex needed to have a variety of floor plan options, which would be placed on the upper levels of the building. The ground floor would be programmed with commercial tenants, ranging from retail to restaurant spaces. The lot spans 600 feet in length, so the mass of the building was broken up by a central courtyard. This void would become the heart of this project, giving the tenants their own greenspace and shared amenities, such as a clubhouse and fitness center. Parking was tucked behind the tenant spaces, hidden from street view. Landscape buffers in the form of green walls and planters were incorporated into the east facade to promote pedestrian activity and enhance the streetscape.

Various renovations to clubs, retail, and office space for downtown St. Louis arena
Tasked with renovating seven spaces, from administrative offices to VIP clubs, utilizing our resources complete all scopes within the arena’s off-season was key to this projects success. These dynamic projects are now the modern backdrop for players, fans, and everyone inbetween to enjoy at Enterprise Center. The new administrative offices for the St. Louis Blues consolidated all employees into a central location in the Peabody Opera House, directly adjacent to Enterprise Center. This idea was enhanced by adding more breakout spaces for collaboration and updating the interiors with bright and energetic touches. A club on the east side of the arena gives users an all-inclusive experience with spacious box-style seating, plus food and beverage service just steps away from their seats. With a strong history of craft brewing in St. Louis, the interior materials and details are inspired by the industrial past of the city.
