Program The goal of the Balance and Vestibular Disorders Clinic

at Bristol Hospital

is to evaluate and treatpatients who complain of dizziness

Therefore, the Balance and Vestibular Disorders Clinic at Rehab Dynamics was created with prevention in mind.

After receiving a referral from your physician, the patient will undergo a 60-minute evaluation by a licensed physical therapist with a specialty in neurology. The evaluation may include: Standardized assessment of balance, falls risk, sensory organization; Assessment of the vestibular system and vestibular function; General physical therapy assessment of strength, sensation, muscle tone and

functional mobility

memory.

One of the biggest problems in the management of "dizzy" patients is that the term"dizzy" is used to describe a variety

of

sensations from vertigo to disequilibrium to lightheadedness. Dizziness can be secondary to many problems including: vestibular pathology; drug interactions

orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure); anxietyl sensory loss; and, sensory organization problems.

Patients will be scheduled for follow-up appointments with a stafftherapist if necessary. A home program and patient education materials will be provided after the evaluation.
