How to Use Awards to Promote Your Business

There are compelling practical reasons for entering contests like the annual TAPPA Image Salon, Print of the Month and others. The most important of them is to promote your business.

Here’s how The key is to get the word out as far and wide as you can for every success no matter how big or how small. Start with social media - announce the contest in advance and your plans to compete.

After the contest let people know how you did.

Later mention how grateful you are for the things you learned in the contest and mention one of them. That’s three posts for one entry! Also, go online and find the press release page of all of

your local news media and let them know about your entry and success. Don’t forget about all the little neighborhood news outlets, association newsletters and anything else that might say something about your success. It’s all about getting word out to as many people as possible.

If you have trouble writing your own releases, join the club, most people do. Let me know and I’ll recommend a freelance writer to you who can make them sound great.

you and call the winner. Remember, people do business with people they know, like and trust.

What’s more likable and trustworthy than a person who has the good character to congratulate the victor?

Let’s say you’re not Best of Show winner Myra Thiessen. Here’s an example of what you could say in social media: “Congratulations to my friend Myra Thiessen for her big win at the TAPPA Image Salon!

There are a lot of very talented photographers in TAPPA and I’m grateful to be among you.” You can even put some humor in it with something like “I’m putting you on notice for next year!”.

Another method is to simply announce how you did and mention how great the competition was.

It’s hard to keep your own pride out of it, but you must! People will respect you for it.

The bottom line is this: Use every excuse to talk about your work, your profession and your colleagues in a positive way. That way, you’ll be on your customer’s radar screen when they need a photographer.

Rosen cast the upcoming feature film, Not Alone, shot entirely in Tampa Bay area. Rosen serves on the Tampa Bay area board of Women in Film & Television and takes great pride in the outreach the organization has accomplished since her involvement.

Membership Classification PROFESSIONAL MEMBER: (Voting) An individual that is a Florida resident. An individual who owns a legally established business engaged in selling photographic goods or services to the public. An individual who is employed by a legally established photographic business. May vote, hold office, use the TAPPA logo, and enter print competition. A valid Sales Tax Number and Occupational License are required. Annual dues are $75 plus a new member registration fee of $10.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER: For additional members from the same firm or studio already represented by a PROFESSIONAL MEMBER. They may not vote, hold office, or display the TAPPA logo, but may enter print competitions. The PROFESSIONAL MEMBER’S Sales Tax Number and Occupational License are required.

Annual dues are $65 plus a new member registration fee of $10.

MEMBER: For enthusiasts, hobbyists, non-professionals, and newcomers to the profession, who are not associated with any PROFESSIONAL or LIFE MEMBER and may just be getting started in the profession.

They may not vote, hold office, or display the TAPPA logo, but may enter print competitions. No Sales Tax or Occupational License are required. Annual dues are $65 plus a new member registration fee of $10.

STUDENT: An individual that is currently enrolled in photography related courses in the State of Florida and can provide authentic student identification. May not vote, hold office, or use the TAPPA logo, but may enter print competitions. Annual dues are $35 plus a new member registration fee of $10.
