Hi Tapatio Members!

My name is Tabitha Villarreal and I'm your new Member Relations Coordinator.

First of all I'm so excited to meet you all and be a part of such a beautiful community!

Some things about me are that I love the outdoors, hiking with my Australian Shepherd, and I spent my highschool years playing golf so if you see me out on the course feel free to give me some tips! I may be a tad bit rusty. Lastly, I'm planning to continue my studies next spring at UTSA, wish me luck!

Hello Tapatio Members!

Many of you have been around the Club for several years and understand the dynamics of our water/irrigation situation. For those that are newer to the club, I wanted to take the time to explain in more detail why rainfall is so crucial for the golf course conditions.

The lake on the 2nd hole is where we draw our irrigation water from. This lake feeds every sprinkler head on the golf course. When it rains an average amount (which is supposed to be about 32 inches a year) the lake remains at a proper level and we can water the greens, fairways, and tee boxes daily.

We also have 4 wells on property that feed the lake and produce approximately 100,000 gallons per day (at peak production). In addition to the wells, we purchase water from the local utility at 100,000 gallons per day. Unfortunately, the excessive drought has taken a toll on their supply as well, so they have been forced to cut our supply at various times throughout the year (sometimes by 50%).

If we were able to irrigate everything on a daily basis, it would take approximately 300,000 gallons of water per day. We are required by the state to replace any water that we take out of the lake, plus 1%. In other words, if we pull out 300,000 gallons of water, we need to replace 303,000 gallons of water. The amount of water drawn from the lake is monitored by the state on a weekly basis. It is impossible to replace that amount of water from our existing sources without normal rainfall.

If you ’ ve been around the course in the last week, you ’ ve likely seen the survey crew taking measurements around the clubhouse and driving range.

This is one of the first steps in the construction of the new water treatment plant that will be built on the old Ridge Nine (where the disc golf course is currently) and will replace the existing treatment plant on the driving range.

This state-of-the-art treatment plant will produce a type of super clean, recycled water that can be used to irrigate anywhere on property and it will be diverted directly to the lake on hole #2. Construction is supposed to start next year and projected completion time in 18 months from groundbreaking.

We are very excited to have this long-awaited water source available to us to help maintain better playing surfaces for years to come, even in extreme drought conditions.

Please keep praying for rain, doing rain dances, washing your car, hanging a rattlesnake on a fence…..whatever gets us some rain!
