Frost Delays
Well, it’s that time of year again. As temperatures drop this winter, we will be faced with frost delays from time to time. As the attached article explains, there are many reasons why delays are necessary when there is frost on the golf course, and not every day is the same. There are SO many factors that make each day different (temperatures, dew points, is it breezy or calm, soil temperatures, etc). For the benefit of the turf and playing conditions, it is vital that we don’t have any foot or cart traffic on the turf until it has thawed.
While frost doesn’t necessarily cause damage to the turf, a good freeze can cause serious damage (as we’ve witnessed in the last two years). I have great news on that front….we are purchasing greens covers! When freezing temperatures are forecasted for a couple of days, we will be able to cover the greens to keep them warmer and prevent serious damage, which should help the greens transition in the Spring more quickly.
