I hope you're all enjoying your summer so far it has certainly heated up quickly! Although we missed out on some of the major rainstorms last month, the 2 ¾” of rain we did receive has helped green up the golf course and promoted healthy growth on our putting greens, especially on the 5th and 14th holes.
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, our work on the "collar-dams" continues. We've completed the collar-dam repairs on the front of the 14th green and have several more scheduled for July. You can easily spot these repairs by the fresh sod lines just off the green surface, as shown in the photo below. These repairs are essential for ensuring proper surface drainage from both irrigation and rain..
This time of year, we also start our semi-weekly "verticut and light top-dress" program. While daily mowing cuts the grass horizontally, verticutting slices vertically, serving two important purposes: removing thatch, which can inhibit healthy grass growth, and creating more growth points for the grass to spread horizontally, helping fill in weak or thin spots on the greens.
Despite the course and greens being over 40 years old, these routine practices and larger projects help ensure the best playing conditions possible. Eric and his team are very proud of Tapatio and work tirelessly to maintain conditions that you’ll be proud of as well. Please continue to pray for rain!
