In this issue of Enchanted Homes magazine, we go behind the scenes at Placio de Marquesa — a magical place full of authentic Taos spirit and history.
The original five-room home was built in the 1920s and an east wing and casita were added in the 30s, followed by a garage and adjacent spaces. For 25 years, the property was run as a bed and breakfast, known as Casa de las Chimineas.
When Heritage Hotels and Resorts bought the property in 2013, a vision was created to tell the story of some of the remarkable women who were drawn to Taos due to its beauty, as well as its Native and Spanish cultures. The women made contributions to its art, distinct character and global reputation. Seven women, including Mabel Dodge Luhan and Millicent Rogers, are featured with rooms named after each of them and a portrait of each by artist Audrey Bell.
